Mistaken Identity (11 page)

His lips twitch slightly taking in the sight of me on his lap. His azure eyes rake over my body, up to my lips, then stops at my eyes. Knowing I just lit him on fire does a number to my ego.

“I can’t place what it is about you. I didn’t want a girlfriend or anything serious, but then I met you. You amaze me. There’s something about you.”

How do I amaze him? I become a shy babbling teenager that can barely compose herself around him. “You don’t care about the fanciness, as you call it,” he continues chuckling while he answers my pondering mind. “So many other women I’ve known are all about it. You are the only one who’s on the opposite side of the fence. I want to be able to claim you as mine. Would that be okay?”

“I would like that,” I whisper.

He cups my cheeks in his hands. Desire, lust, want, and affection shine back at me through his blue stones that are now officially mine.

Our tongues swirl, seductively dancing to the beat of their own sexual impulses. I run my fingers through his hair, pulling him closer into me, intensifying the passion between us. He wraps his arm around my back and pulls me down onto him. His lips slide down my neck, and along my shoulder drawing a soft moan out of me. In one swift movement, he’s placed me on my back, still situated between my legs, my sex aching for his touch. The lust burning in his gaze drives my ache for him past the point of no return.

I grab his back and pull him down into me, dropping him to his elbows. His hands rub over my thighs and up to my hips. I shudder at his groan of desire. He splays his hand across my stomach under my shirt, maneuvering under my bra to get a gentle squeeze of my breast. My back arches into his hand as he begins to roll my hard nipple between his fingers. Our lips crash into each other’s again, harder and wilder. Our hands frantically try to feel every inch of skin. He raises me pulling my shirt over my head, not taking a moment to enjoy the view. I haven’t been undressed for a man in years, so I’m feeling self-conscious that I’m the only one half naked and exposed in an intimate way. Apparently, he read my mind and tugs his shirt off giving me a full view of his well-defined muscular chest. A patch of hair centered between the bulges fades away to outlined bumps of his six pack abs and becomes more apparent around his navel, creating a perfect happy trail down the middle of his mouthwatering V. He lowers back down to my lips and grinds his hard bulge into me.

His body tenses against me and he stops his torturous rocking, raising his head, “Shit! We have to stop, I don’t have anything.” He’s reluctant and breathless.

Everything begins to run through my mind. Sex Ed teachers be damned, right now I don’t care. “I’m on birth control,” I pant.

I guess that settled that because he’s frantic trying to unbutton my jeans, pulling them down off my legs along with my black lacy thong I’m grateful I wore today. I fumble with his belt slowing me down for only split seconds before I get his pants undone. He somehow gets out of them without leaving the ground freeing his erection. He made that look effortless. His dark elated eyes study the naked panting puddle of goo that lies before him, my eyes locked onto his. I’m a nervous wreck feeling a bit vulnerable and wickedly self-conscious that my boobs are now in my arm pits thanks to the force of gravity.

His eyes find me lost in desire and he lowers himself down to me, placing his erection across my clit. He begins rocking sending pulses of pleasure through my body. His lips meet mine as his fingers run down to the slickness between my legs. If he was in question whether I was ready for him, he just got his answer. He pushes his dick into me slowly allowing for me to adjust to his size. Once fully into me he leans down, rapidly breathing next to my ear, his heart pounding in his chest against mine. My hips involuntarily begin to thrust and his pace begins to pick up, filling me, emptying me, moving in and out sliding just right against every nerve inside.

“I’m a lucky man,” he sighs lifting himself up so he’s able to watch my expression. His eyes are full of thirst begging for my release, his thrust becoming deeper giving my body exactly what it needs.

“Oh my God!” I yell out throwing my head back, grabbing the earth beside us as the walls of my sex clamp down on him. The earth shatters around me. My eyes roll back. My body becomes rigid.

His eyelids are heavy, breath is ragged as his movements become jerky. He thrust deeply inside of me, growling at his own release as he drops to his elbows. He places soft kisses under my ear while we lay there trying to catch our breaths from the freaking mind blowing sex we just experienced. The intimacy we’re sharing between us begins to tug at me again, the feeling is almost claustrophobic. Thankfully, he stirs and shuffles to his elbows, a warming smile adding to the pull.

“How do you do this to me?”

If he only knew what the hell he’s doing to me! “I could ask you the same question. Wow.”

I wince when he slides out. Instantly I feel empty, and I miss him being inside of me, on top of me, breathing passion in my ear. He drops to his back with an arm over his eyes, placing his other hand on my hip, “That was phenomenal.”

“I concur.” I manage in complete ecstasy.

Chapter 17

I’ve found my favorite spot of his house—the black wooden swing on the front porch. Tanner’s place is definitely away from the city. There are no roads in sight, no noise to even implicate one is close by. It’s silent other than nature’s music of birds chirping and crickets stringing their music. The massive tree line around his property blocks out everything city and gives it the serene country setting. I could really get used to being here.

“This place is beautiful, Tanner. It’s so serene, so not city.”

The corners of his lips curl up. “Yeah, I like it out here away from the hustle and bustle of the city,” he says still tracing his fingers across my shoulder and down my arms.

We sit silently, lost in our own thoughts when I remember the notes in my purse. “Oh! I have something I need you to take a look at.” I jump up, jogging to my car and grab my purse “Do you remember the letter on my car, the one you said must’ve been mistaken identity? Well, I don’t think it was.”

I hand him the envelopes. One by one he opens them, his jaw muscles tightening as he reads them. If he thinks this pisses him off, he should be the one receiving these things.

His eyes dart to me. “Do you have any idea who this could be?”

“No.”

He raises the notes. “Is this all you’ve received?”

“Yes. I’ve received all of these in two days. One on my car, one in the mail, and one that was slid under my door.” I close my eyes shuddering at the thought of the person knowing where I live.

“Samantha, you need to report this to law enforcement so they can investigate,” he says with urgency.

“I’m hoping this is the last one.”

His dark brows crinkle together as he holds them out for me to take, “This isn’t something to take lightly.”

A muffled sound of my ringtone interrupts me before I can explain that I’m not taking it lightly, but I just don’t have anything else to give the cops. What can they do with typed letters?

“Sam!” Jess yells in my ear.

There’s panic in her voice and immediately my pulse begins to race, “What’s wrong?” I ask already on edge. Tanner’s attention bolts to me.

“There’s another one and there’s something in it,” she cries out.

I jump up and start toward my car. “I’m on my way,” I bark, hanging up on her. This is getting more disturbing. Someone is definitely trying to scare the hell out of me, and it’s working entirely.

I shove the key into the ignition when Tanner opens the passenger door and slides into my car.

“You got another one, didn’t you?” he says.

I nod.

“I’m coming with you.” He slides his seatbelt on, giving me a stern look I know better to argue with.

“Who the hell would take pictures of you walking?” Tanner asks staring at the pictures of me walking down the sidewalk on different occasions.

“Shit if I know. But this,” I point to the picture on top, “is when I walked to work a few weeks ago.” Judging by the buildings behind me, I’m not even a block away. I’ve got my coffee mug in one hand and my briefcase in the other. This is also the same day he walked me home.

“Belle, I don’t know what the hell is going on, but this really is some scary shit,” Jess says.

I drop down to the couch holding my head in my hands. “Tell me about it,” I sigh.

Tanner joins beside me taking my hand in his, “Do you want to stay with me tonight?”

“Tanner, I don’t want to impose.”

“Impose? Samantha, I’m asking my girlfriend to stay with me. What’s—”

“Whoa, whoa, whoa!” Jess interrupts him, “What have I missed?” She shoves her hands onto her hips playfully pissed.

I shoot her a stare letting her know now isn’t the time to talk about it, but Tanner chuckles at my attempt.

“I’m waiting.” She’s trying to be mad, but I know her too well and she’s doing a horrible job at it.

“We’ve decided to be exclusive. Do I need to spell out how that came about?” Tanner answers.

I slap his arm. “I’d rather you not.”

Jess squints her eyes at me, sticking her bottom lip out trying to pout, but a giggling fit hits her first.

Tanner chuckles shaking his head at her. He probably thinks she’s a nut, and he’s right. She’s my right nut to my left world. Sisters without the blood.

“Come stay with me.” Tanner says squeezing my hand in his.

I look to Jess then back to Tanner’s compassionate blues, “What about Jess?” I definitely don’t want to leave her in any danger.

“Belle, I’m fine. Go. Whoever this is wants you, not me.” Once it registers what she said, a silent apology crosses her expression.

“Yeah, thanks for the reminder. Are you sure?”

“If you don’t get your butt out that door and go snuggle with your new boyfriend, I will tie you up and take you there myself. Go!”

“Okay, but under one condition…we all go get a drink first.” I stifle a laugh knowing damn good and well she’s going to take the bait.

“Sounds like a plan to me! I’ll go get my purse.” See, Jess can never deny a drink.

“Guess I should’ve asked you first since you’re my boyfriend now, huh?” I snort, peeking out the corner of my eyes to a grinning Tanner.

“Independent. I like that you make your own decisions. You are fortunate we have nothing to do anyways,” he winks tapping me on the nose.

Chapter 18

After sharing a beer and dropping Jess off at the apartment, Tanner drives us to his house. The ride is quiet as anxiety continues to build in my worried mind. When we enter his house, I’m quite timid. I haven’t stayed with a man in years and I’ve grown used to a bed all to myself. I’m a total bed hog. I’m nervous and unsure how to act standing there with my hands awkwardly at my side. We just had sex for the first time today, and now I’m at his house spending the night with him. It was his idea, but I don’t want to impose and I sure as hell don’t want to run him off. I kind of like his dimples.

Tanner places my overnight bag on the couch retreating to the kitchen to grab us another beer. His living room is spacious, and for a single man, it’s immensely clean and organized. There’s a black leather couch with a matching leather chair facing toward the grey stone fireplace with a manly sized television above it. There’s a picture of an older couple smiling at the camera sitting at a table. The man and Tanner have a striking resemblance. I’m guessing this must be his father. I see where he gets his looks from. Beside that picture is another with him and Onyx and beside that one is of him and Belle. He’s proud of them, and it’s heartwarming to see him shamelessly displaying it.

Tanner enters the living room and stops at the foot of the stairs with two beers in his hands, motioning for me to follow with his head. I’m shocked when he leads me to his bedroom. It’s twice the size of mine, and I’m instantly jealous of his king size bed. That bed I could definitely hog and share at the same time! There’s a ceiling to floor curtain wall that stretches from one side to the other.

He takes a seat on a small grey loveseat strategically placed in front of a fireplace, setting our beers down on the table in front of it. I’m star struck at the luxury of the place. I mean, really? Who has a sitting area in their bedroom? He reaches for a remote and within seconds, flames ignite in the fireplace.

“You’ve got to be kidding me!” I roll my eyes more out of shock than anything. A working fireplace in your bedroom? What the hell have I been doing wrong?

“Well, I made sure to put a fireplace in my room when I built the house. When days get rough, this is where I retreat,” he says pulling me into his hard chest.

I turn my head up to him, “But you live alone.”

“That’s very true, but there’s nothing like relaxing in your own room.”

He’s right. That’s the very place I enjoy going to escape the world…cuddled in my bed, not in front of a freaking fire place. The flames dance and twist with purpose, wrapping themselves together becoming one, then splitting apart.
