Belle sat
on the edge of the hard settee, chatting with Kayla, the receptionist for Doxy Parcel as she waited to be seen.

“You can’t be serious! I would have left immediately.” Kayla gasped quietly ducking her head down as if they weren’t
the only two people on the entire floor.

“Oh no honey, I love the weird ones, they really melt my butter.” She
said with a Marilyn face, and then winked.

Kayla turned pink
as Lenora’s door swung open and a girl with long blonde hair walked out; her eyes were wide, and Belle couldn’t tell if that was just her natural pallor, or if she was white as s ghost.  When the girl was gone from the waiting room, Belle stood, adjusting her purse strap on her shoulder.

“She was cute huh?” Belle asked, and Kayla nodded enthusiastically.

“Her name is Alice, she was interviewed today. I think she will do great here if Lenora hires her, she is awfully quiet though.” Kayla pursed her lips, she loved to gossip with the girls about their adventures, but confessed often that she wasn’t interested in the line of work.

“I’d
like to meet her.” Belle winked with a smooth smile.

“B
etween you and me…” Kayla lowered her voice even more, “I heard Lenora and Raymond speaking earlier this week, they’re thinking of offering doubles for the girls who would be willing to do so. She wants to chat with you about it today.”

“I have been telling her for over a year that she should consider that as a business move.” Belle tossed over her shoulder as she strolled into Lenora’s office, closing the door soundly and plopping down into one of the chairs in front of her desk.

“Well, what’s the diagnosis?” She asked as she pulled a cigarette from Lenora’s box on her desk, and crossed her legs.

“You’re clean.” Lenora said without enthusiasm
as she rounded the corner of her desk.

“Good to know.
” Belle said. “What’s the matter?” Lenora was standing at the window now, looking down gravely.

“I just interviewed a
girl, that might change what we do here.” Lenora said, almost to herself as she looked down into the street below her office.

Word on the grapevine is you’re thinking of starting doubles?” Belle said as she took a deep pull on the fancy vanilla flavored cigarette.

“It’s in the works.
” Lenora seemed to snap back into reality and turned from the window, straightening her hair, “But I have something else for you, it’s short notice, but you’re the girl for the job, and he liked your photo the best.” Lenora said, sliding an envelope to Belle.

“Upfront payment?”
Belle pressed her brows together, feeling the weight of the money in her hands and tossed the envelope back at Lenora, “What is it?” She demanded.

“Nothing too weird
.” Lenora said quickly as she sat in her chair and folded her hands together.

“You never p
ay up front unless it is
too weird
. Spill it Lenora.” Belle said, crossing her arms over her breasts and leaning back in the chair, the cigarette hanging in her lips.

“Mr.
Bestia has… extravagant tastes.” Lenora said with a devilish grin.

“Extravagant
enough tastes to shell out more than seven grand?” Belle asked.

Lenora
’s sticky red lips pulled into a sly smile, she loved Belle’s spunk, and she loved that nothing could escape Belle’s notice. Belle had grown up in a wealthy home, with three sisters and no mother. She’d been a promising cellist, had straight A’s in school, and was named Prom Queen her junior and senior year. When Belle was in her first year of college, and their father had lost everything on the stock market, he had traded Belle’s virginity to the highest bidder, one of his sleazy business partners at a whopping hundred grand. Belle had endured the night dutifully, and after the bastard made her deliver the money to her father, she split and never looked back. She lived with her boyfriend for a couple of years, waitressing and then stripping before she landed in Lenora’s office for an interview when she was twenty one.

“Yes, but m
ore importantly, he is colorful enough to become a returning customer,
if
the right girl for him were to come along…” Lenora pulled a cigarette from the box and lit it as she leaned back in her chair, watching Belle chew on the idea.

“What does he want?” B
elle asked without looking up. She knew there was a catch; you didn’t pay double the amount simply because you had a kink.

“Eight hours.” Lenora said, and bit back a grin as Belle turned huge eyes up to her.

Eight
fucking hours?” Belle shouted.

“I understand,” Lenora held her hand up. “But the first four are going to be in a public place. No sex. He is very aware of the rules, and has requested this specifically. You know I can’t give you any more details, in case someone else is to go on the party.”

“Oh come on, you know I’m going to do it. Now tell me.” Belle said as she pulled the client file from in front of Lenora.

Belle managed to peek
at it before Lenora slapped her hand over the top and snatched it up, tucking it into a side drawer in her desk. At least he looked handsome.

“He has requested that you
attend a masquerade with him, have dinner, there will be a band and then a silent auction, after that, return to his place.” Lenora shrugged.

“Daniel will drive?” Belle asked.

“Of course.” Lenora blew her smoke out quickly and pointed a finger at her. “Remember, you wanted to do this.” She said sliding the envelope back toward Belle.

“He isn’t going to fuck me in front of this masked ball is he?” She asked lifting an eyebrow conspiratorially at Lenora.

“Now, you know I’d tell you if he wanted you to do that.” She winked, a slightly sadistic smile spreading across her lips.

“It’s a single party then?” Belle snuffed the cigarette out in the ashtray, and tucked the envelope into her purse.

“Yes. He doesn’t seem like the type of man who likes to share.” Lenora said and stood with Belle, smoothing her hands over her black latex skirt.

“Well I’d better get ready. Do I need
to get a costume and mask?” Belle asked.

No, everything is taken care of. Daniel will arrive at seven to pick you up.”

“Thanks Lenny.” Belle grumbled and rolled her eyes
, she knew Lenora hated the nickname.

Belle walked fast toward the door against the spring wind, it tossed her hair in several directions, and Lou smiled at her as he opened the door.

“Thanks Lou! I don’t know what I’d do without you!” She said before planting a little kiss on his wrinkled cheek.

He beamed at her before shyly tipping his hat and turning back to the street. Lou had been the doorman in her building for the last three years she’d lived there. It was nice having him there five nights a week, it added a nice touch of home to the apartment building. Belle loved arriving in the evenings to him greeting her with his kind smile and rosy cheeks. It reminded her that there was merriment in the world.

Belle opened the door to her apartment, and shoved past a box of clothes she’d meant to donate two weeks ago, but still hadn’t gotten around to. She quickly pressed the button on her answering machine, which flashed two messages. She didn’t need to hear them to know who they were
from, he was the only one who called her home phone anymore.

Belle pressed delete and held it down. She wouldn’t pretend that she didn’t miss him, but she didn’t need him in her life, she didn’t then, and she really didn’t now. Belle released a growl of frustration as she thrust her head back and stomped into her living room, tossing herself onto the sofa. She lay face down for several moments before willing herself to stand, dragging herself to the fridge and cracking open a red bull.

B
elle began her routine, and by the time she was finishing her up do in the bathroom mirror, the buzzer sounded, loud and shrill. She hurried to shove her sweat pants on and hopped on one foot as she pulled her slippers on and opened the door. She ran down to the lobby, and Lou was dutifully waiting.

“Have a safe evening miss Belle.” He said to her, she kissed his
cheek before she sat down into the limo, and he closed the door securely, patting the top before Daniel pulled away.

“Evening
miss Belle.” Daniel said, and Belle smiled at him as she stripped her sweater over her head and slipped her pants over her hips.

“How’s life Danny?”
She asked.

“Oh you know…” He winked and Belle bit her tongue in mock disgust,
opening the cabinet at her knees and pulling out a long, golden evening gown.

It was unusually heavy,
the golden beading glittered under the light, and the silky material on the inside chilled her skin as she pulled it over her legs, and up her stomach, slipping her arms in before pulling the side zipper up carefully.

“How much time do I have?” She asked as she pulled a pair of golden
Manolo Blahnik
pumps from the cabinet. Below them sat a small piece of paper, with handwriting on it. Belle whistled at the shoes but frowned as she picked up the piece of paper.

Miss Belle
,
If you are reading this, it means you’ve accepted my invitation for tonight.
As a token of my gratitude, and pleasure at the privilege of being in your
company, I’d like to gift you these shoes. I hope they are to your liking.
- Anthony

Belle
smiled, shook her head and she slipped the heels on, scoffing softly.

“Not long.
Another strike?” Daniel asked.

“I swear I don’t know
how this happens.” Belle said as she poured herself a glass of champagne.

“It’s your beauty. They can’t help themselves.”

“Sure.” Belle said as she sipped the champagne, and took the golden bow from the cabinet, ignoring the small tin that sat below.

It’s true.” Daniel said, winking at her again.

“Regardless, the man has never met me. I do love the gifts though; a girl can get awfully spoiled in this line of business. I’ve still got to donate those clothes.” She said more to herself.

Belle wrapped the golden bow around her wrists idly as they slowed in front of a large building, but was surprised when Daniel didn’t turn off the ignition.

“Boss’s orders.”
He said into the mirror at her questioning gaze.

“What’s with all of the rule breaking?” Belle demanded in annoyance.
“I don’t even get an escort now? Where is the security?”

Daniel shrugged, and Belle noticed movement to her right. She looked out the window to see a tall, very large man approaching the limo. He reached down and pulled the door open as Belle stretched her leg out and placed it on the pavement, making eye contact with Daniel before she stood.

“I’ll be here.” He said.

Belle nodded and stood, looking up into a dark, handsome face, and steel grey eyes. She beamed
at him as he took her hand into his, and brought it up to his lips.

“Belle, I’m so happy to finally meet you.” His voice was a deep baritone, and it seemed to reverberate in the space between them.

“The pleasure is all mine, Mr. Bestia.” Belle said, he still held her hand poised at his lips and a wolfish grin spread across his face.
