150 Minecraft Secrets You've Never Seen Before: The Secrets Handbook (9 page)

68. Interesting Fence Creations

Nether fence and wooden fence don't connect meaning that you can create interesting knick knacks of all kinds! It's wacky, but it works! You can stack fences on top of each other to make a H shape. There are tons of interesting creations you can make. Get thinking!

69. Get Rid Of A Storm

If it's daytime and a strom is raging, why not go to sleep? Luckily, Minecraft will let you go to sleep during a storm even it is daytime! No one knows why, but you should use this to your advantage. Unless you don't like storms, you should definitely use this trick.

You can wave storms goodbye forever now!

70. Find Diamonds With Ice

Diamonds regularly can be found underneath lava. To confirm this, you should place ice on any lava pools you find. Since ice is semi-transparent, it acts like an x-ray for lava where it shows any diamonds that are hidden underneath the lava. Once you find diamonds underneath lava, you should block off the lava surrounding the block and then take out the source block with a bucket if you need to. Then, dig out the diamond. Be careful though! You should sneak whilst doing this, since you could easily fall into the lava and die.

But, don't step on the ice whilst it is in lava, since it'll melt and that would be a huge pity.

71. Destroy Lava With Glass

Did you know that it's possible to get rid of lava completely with glass?

All you have to do is place down glass blocks in the lava pool, and the lava will disappear from the glass block you placed on it! It's quite a quick and easy way to get rid of lava quickly, and look for diamonds underneath the pool.

72. Eat Rotten Flesh/Spider Eyes Safely

Is your hunger going up and your hearts are going down? No food for miles? Eat spider eyes or rotten flesh, which are probably hiding somewhere in your inventory. They are the best alternative to food, let's face it. When you eat these, your hearts will regenerate but you will be poisoned. To get rid of the poisoning effects, drink milk. Before you know it, you'll be back to full health again.

If you've been fighting mobs and have a load of "mob junk" lying around in your inventory, you may be tempted to get rid of it. However, you should keep rotten flesh and spider eyes for food should you run into a hunger emergency. You
will
need milk though so make sure to always have a bucket off it in your inventory.

73. Make A Massive Map Wall (PC Only)

It's possible to make a massive map wall like the one here. It takes a little work but it looks amazing once you've completed it. It also functions as a live map as well, it's not a static one that doesn't move with you.

Firstly, you will need six empty maps, six item frames and six block for the back of the wall. Make a 3x2 block with the six blocks that you have. Then, place item frames on those six blocks.

You should do this in the centre of the world, if you're beginning, because it is a little difficult at the start. When you're more advanced, you can do this from anywhere in the world.

Firstly, pull out the map you have right now, from this portion in the world. Place that on the relevant location on the item frames.

Then, go to another section in the world so that the empty map changes to another portion, and you're at the edge of the map. Get that map and place it on one of the item frames. Then, do the same for the other four maps.

When you place the last map, they'll all collage together into one big map. It's pretty awesome!

74. Get Rid Of Annoying Water Current Problems

Sometimes, you'll come across some very annoying water current problems either in the sea or in a river. These are usually swirling vortexes that lead you to getting trapped in the current. Here is a screenshot of a water current "vortex" of sorts. You can also make a water vortex by taking out water from the sea and messing around with a bucket by taking out water from various places. A simple mistake could lead to an annoying water current mishap!

You can get rid of this water problem by placing blocks underneath the problem. So wherever the problem is, you can place a dirt block or a stone block just underneath it. That way, you'll get rid of the water problem instantly!

75. Use Vines Or Ladders For Your Farms

This is the third method you can use to gain easy access into an enclosed animal pen without gates. When you open and close a gate, you run the risk of animals escaping or secretly coming out by "following you" through the gate. By not having any gate whatsoever, you won't have to open and close the gate whilst letting the animals run loose at the same time.

Instead, you should place a wood block on the corner of the pen (where both fences meet) and then, a vine on the block. That way you can climb with the vine into the pen and out of the pen quite easily. See the image below for a better look.

You can also do the same for ladders, which work just as well as vines.

76. Farming Pumpkins and Wheat With Lilypads

When you are trying to sow seeds or harvest pumpkins/wheat/sugar cane (any fruit or veg that needs to be beside water), you'll need to have water beside the soil since the fruit or veg needs water to grow. If you want to harvest a row of pumpkins, you'll need to go into the water beside to harvest the pumpkins since you can't trample all over the soil they grow on.

As we all know, walking through water is slow and tedious. Instead, place lily pads on the water so you can "walk on water" simply because of the lily pads. Rather than sinking and walking into the water, you can still do your farming by walking on the lily pads.

77. Don't Sleep In The Nether, Here's Why

Ever tried sleeping in the Nether? Know what happens?

Place a bed down in the Nether and try to sleep in it.

The bed will blow up.
