150 Minecraft Secrets You've Never Seen Before: The Secrets Handbook (10 page)

The Nether doesn't want you to escape the nightmare of ghasts and blaze rods and lava and dead bodies. That's why you can't sleep in the Nether.

Don't ever try it.

78. How To Collect A Dragon Egg

The heavily sought after dragon egg is quite a pain to collect and
get in to your inventory,
isn't it?

When you defeat the Enderdragon, you want to show what you've achieved with the dragon egg. Here's how to do it.

Dig a block in front of the dragon egg. Then dig the one below that. Then dig the block beside that block which is one block below the dragon egg. Finally, place a torch in that block. Break the block which the dragon egg is sitting on, and the torch will break the dragon egg leaving you with a collectable dragon egg that can go into your inventory!

79. Make Your Golden Sword More Durable

Golden swords aren't the best swords because their durability is terrible. You can fight one or two mobs max, and then the sword is a goner. Whilst it
does
take down mobs a lot quicker than other swords, its durability just doesn't make the grade. However, you can make your golden sword a little bit more durable with this trick if you ever find yourself using one.

When you're fighting a mob, the classic way to do it is hit the mob as quickly as possible, by slewing them with your sword constantly until they die. Sadly, your golden sword's durability will go down dramatically. You might have one more use out of it if you're lucky.

Instead, hit the mob and then pause for a second. Then, hit him again. Pause. Hit. Pause. Keep doing this until the mob dies.

Check the durability of the sword after you follow the "hit and pause" technique.

You'll notice that the durability of the sword after the hit and pause technique will be a LOT higher than just a "hit the mob like there's no tomorrow" technique.

Check out the results of both swords' durability, here:

80. Play Minecraft On Christmas Day…And Look What Happens!

Ho ho ho! Merry Christmas everyone!

When the 25
th
of December comes around, Minecraft turns into something very magical indeed. Check it out!
Instead of regular chests, the chests turn into Christmas presents. The double chests turn into a green present with a white ribbon (and a cute lil' red bow) whilst the single chests turn into red presents with a golden ribbon. They really do brighten the mood and give a little festive cheer to us Minecraft players!

I've also seen mobs wearing Christmas hats. Ain't nothing like a Christmas creeper!

Even though Christmas is a time for the family, you should play Minecraft for a couple of minutes just to get the Christmas spirit and enjoy the festivity.

81. Get Down A Ravine Quickly With Lava/Water

Need to get down a ravine quickly? Or want to descend a little in the Nether?

Just jumping into the ravine or down to ground level on the Nether could lead to a disaster since the they're both so deep that you'll probably die.

The best and easiest way to get down from a height is to look for a "lavafall" (like a waterfall, but with lava instead!) or a waterfall. Lavafalls are very common in the Nether and you should see them very quickly. In a ravine, a waterfall would be more common although you can find lavafalls too.

If you see water flowing down, that's great! You can easily descend down the waterfall by just jumping into it and sliding down.

If you see a lavafall, you will need a fire resistance potion which will make you invincible to fire and lava. Drink it before descending and then jump into the lava and allow it to slide you down to the ground.

82. Build Downwards With A Water Bucket

Also known as water scaffolding, this technique can be used for building downwards such as building down the top of a building or building in the sky. Whatever it is, if it includes building downwards, check this out!

All you have to do is pour water down the side of the area where you want to build. Then, jump into the water and slide down it. Place down a block as you go.

Then, swim back up to the surface and remove the source block of the water.

83. Create A Triple Chest (PC Only)

Make a double chest. Then, surround the chest with blocks as shown below. Make sure there is a space beside the double chest, which is for the "Third" phantom chest or whatever. Then, hover over the third chest/space beside the double chest and look down on it. Then, type in this command;

Command:

/setblock ~ ~ ~ chest 3

You won't see a third chest though, only air. Then, go to the empty space beside the double chest and open it up. There should be a third space there.

This is a glitch and mightn't always work, depending on version you're on. If it doesn't, there are plenty others on YouTube. There are tons of different triple chest glitches depending on version, and this is one of them.

84. Bring Your Pet With You

Do you have to cross an ocean or a lake and you want to bring your pet wolf or horse with you? Or do you

Now with leads, all you have to do is attach a lead to your pet (no matter what animal it is) and hop into the boat. Then, the pet will follow you as your boat glides across the sea!

This also works for minecarts. It's awesome!

85. Hide Your House #1

In a lake

In the next few tips, you'll learn how to hide your house.

The first way to hide your house is under a pond or water source of some kind –
be it the sea, a river or a desert oasis.

All you have to do is jump into the pond and select an area to dig a hole in. Dig through the side of the dig a hole through the edge of the pond into the ground. Since doors prevent water from flowing, the water won't enter your house. You will need to open and close the door quickly though, just in case.

Then, within your house will be all your chests and valuables which no one will ever find.
