Worth Waiting For (19 page)

There. She’d said it.
She expected him to call the security guards to see her off the property, but
instead he leaned back and roared with laughter.

“Kate?
If I may call you that?
The only other woman who has ever
spoken to me like that was my dear first wife, Brock’s mother.” He signaled for
her to sit but she refused. “Kate, sit for goodness’ sake.”

She still hesitated
but finally gave in because her legs were shaking.

“You really love my
son, don’t you?”

“I really do.”

“Seems he loves you,
too, and I can see why. He probably sees a lot of his mother’s qualities in you,
like I do. And we both have a good eye for a pretty girl.” He winked at her. “Okay,
how’s this for a deal? I’ll
come
visit you and Brock
at the restaurant tomorrow around noon with a counteroffer that I think will
make all of us happy.”

Kate was about to say
something but he raised his hand again.

“I said we’d all be
happy and not only me. I have another appointment, but I’m looking forward to
seeing you again, Kate, and checking out the restaurant I’ve saved.”

Kate stood and
nodded, hoping Brock wouldn’t kill her when he saw his father rolling up
outside the restaurant.

***

Kate had been on edge
all night. She’d tossed and turned. The sun had only just risen and here she
was looking out of the bedroom window. Whatever she was focusing on held her
interest because she didn’t even hear him creep up behind her.

“Caught you,” he
said. He wrapped his arms around her and kissed her neck.

“Jeez, you scared me.”

“Obviously.”
He kissed her neck again. “So what’s out there, a cute guy, or
what?”

“Only cute guy I’m
interesting in is standing right behind me.”

“Um, I like the way
you said that.” Brock let his lips trail along her neck and up to her jaw line.
He put his hands over her breasts. Her nipples hardened against their palms.

Kate tried to turn
around but he prevented her from doing so.

He tugged at the tiny
bow at the top of her nightie and it fell open before he pulled it off her
shoulders and let it fall to the ground. Brock ran his hands over the front of
her body, her breasts and belly, before letting them roam over her backside.
God, how he loved her body and that cute little ass of hers.
“Bend over,” he whispered in her ear.

“Brock, someone might
see us if we do it right by this window.”

“That’s why it will
be even more fun.”

Kate leaned over and
rested her elbows on the window sill.

He touched the small
of her back, down the parting of her bottom cheeks, and slowly let his finger
roam in between them. His middle finger found her slit, which was already moist,
but he wanted to make it wetter. He tickled the skin around it.

Kate moved her feet a
few times.

“You like that?” he
asked.

“You know I do.”

He kissed her spine
as his finger plunged deep. Her pussy tightened around it, making him want his
cock inside.
Sorry, Kate, no more
foreplay this morning
.

Brock took his dick
in his free hand and pushed it inside Kate, who bucked against him. He thrust
hard and deep, loving the sound of his thighs smacking up against her ass.

“Brock?”

“What, honey?”

“I love you.”

“Love you, too,
baby.” He pushed her hair to one side, raked his hands over her back, and
pushed harder inside her. Her vagina clenched him so hard he thought he was
going to climax right then, but he held on for her sake.

Kate groaned and he
smiled when he noticed her own hand working her clit. It was the cutest little
bud he’d ever seen. He half-wished it was his hand down there stimulating it.

She arched her back
some more, pushed upwards, and cried out. Maybe they should have at least
closed the window because a lady walking her beagle along the waterfront
stopped and looked up at them.

“You shameless girl,
Kate Byrne,” said Brock. He thrust one final time. He held her tight, closed
his eyes, and stayed inside her, letting her juices mix together with it as it
ran down her legs.

“Brock.”

He opened his eyes. “I
know you love me.”

“That,
too, but something’s going to happen today and I don’t want you to hate me.”
She pulled away from him, turned, and threw her arms around him.

“What could possibly
happen to make me hate you?”

Chapter Sixteen

He was intrigued, not
only by what she’d said but by her whole demeanor since they’d showered and
eaten breakfast. She’d paced the dining room a few times, dropped flatware, not
been happy with a few of the tablecloths, and had been continually looking out
of the window from eleven o’clock onward. What was she up to, and why did she
think he’d hate her?

He was in the middle
of topping up all the salt and pepper shakers when he heard her talking to a
man whose voice sounded very familiar. Holy shit, it was his old man. He was
sure of it. What the hell was he doing here…wait, Kate knew he was coming? Fuck.
Brock realized he’d let the salt spill all over the table.

“Throw that behind
your left shoulder,” said his father, who stood in the doorway with Kate.

“What are you doing
here?” He looked at Kate.

She was biting the
nail on her index finger.

“Is there somewhere
the three of us can chat?” asked his father.

“Yes, the office,”
said Kate.

“Then lead the way.”

Brock noticed his father
checking out every nook and cranny as they made their way there.

Kate pulled out a
chair for the old man, who sat and crossed his leg. Kate sat but Brock opted to
stand.

“First, before you
get very defensive with me, let me say that I wholeheartedly approve of your
choice of women this time around. She reminds me of your mother in both looks
and personality.”

Yeah, his father had
said that and Brock had to agree that in fact, Kate did. Maybe that’s why he’d
fallen hard for her. He’d been waiting for a girl like his beloved mother to
come into his life.
Simple
as that.
His mother had been
kind, smart, and stood up for what she believed to be right. Yeah, that
described Kate all right.

“Kate here came to
see me, to give me a piece of her mind.”

Brock looked at her.

She’d turned scarlet.

Well done, Kate, for telling off the old man
.

“And she kindly
reminded me what a hard-working man I’ve raised. And that I shouldn’t let the
check I issued for her be counted toward your test.”

Brock stared at her.

She nodded.

“I’m not about to
change my mind about that, but I will give you a second chance to work in the
family company.” If he wanted him to give up Kate, he’d tell him to go to hell,
go jump in the ocean.
Yeah, old man, it’s
just across the street. I’ll even hold your jacket for you
.

“You can come back
and work in the company, but only if you marry Kate.”

Did I hear that right?

“You haven’t said
anything…either of you. Brock, you love her enough to marry her?”

“I love her enough to
marry her in two lifetimes.”

“And you, Kate? You
think you can put up with my son as a husband?”

“Oh yes, that’s one
hardship I can endure forever.”

Brock pulled a face
at her and they both laughed.

“Very well then, I
suppose this means I’ll need to mark a family wedding on the social calendar.”

“I want to marry Kate
on the boat I bought. Family only, and no big deal,” said Brock.

“I want that, too,”
said Kate. She walked over to him, and they kissed.

“Oh, and I don’t want
to work at the company,” said Brock, turning to his father.

“What?” asked
Kate.

“What?” asked his
father.

“You did me the
biggest favor of my life when you sent me on this test, because not only did I
find Kate but I discovered what I really want to do with the rest of my life. I
want to run boat trips and work in this restaurant.”

His father threw up
his hands. “Oh, well. I tried, but if that’s what will make you happy.” He
stood. “Well, son, at least I’d like us to be friends, and the offer is open
for you to come back to the company whenever you want.”

Brock wrapped his arm
around Kate’s waist and squeezed. “We’ll probably stop by and bug you now and
then,” he said.

“Well I’m starving
and I’d like to try out some of the cuisine. Noticed the menu has shrimp tacos.
Never had them before, but let’s give them a whirl,” said his father.

Epilogue

“We could have gone
anywhere for our wedding night,” said Brock.

“I know, but I
thought spending our first night as husband and wife on
Kate
was so romantic.”

The boat bounced up
and down a little as they wrapped their arms around one another. The ice in the
bucket housing the champagne had already melted, and the chocolate-dipped
strawberries were already eaten.

Kate wiped a minute
speck of chocolate from the corner of Brock’s mouth. Since he had come into her
life, well, besides a few rocky moments with bills piling up and horny bank
presidents…everything had worked out perfectly. No more debt and an ex-husband
off her back.
Sunsets was
picking up again and while
she and Brock honeymooned, it was in the very capable hands of Jenine and
Henri.

“You know, once I get
this boat converted for passengers, this bed has to go?” asked Brock.

That had jarred Kate
from her current thoughts. “I know, and I hate that thought,” she said

“I think we should
make the most of it then, don’t you?”

“I couldn’t agree
more, Mr. Dolan.”

She let her hand slip
under the covers, and ran her fingertips over his cock.

She kissed his lips and remembered the first
time she’d set eyes on her husband.
Yeah, on this very boat.

“Love you, Mrs. Dolan.”

“Love you, too.”
