Trust Me II (73 page)

“Would you like to cut the cord, daddy?” Irena asked handing the scissors off to her brother. Creighton took them with
a smile of gratitude as the door to the bedroom opened and two paramedics, one a large black man with a bald head, the other a skinny female with short white spiked hair and purple ends stepped through the door, each carrying cases and supplies with them.

I’m Irena Ashford and this is my brother and sister-in-law, Creighton and Sandra Ashford,” she told the paramedics, explaining that she was a nurse at Mercy Hospital. “And this little one, is their newest addition to the family…what are you going to name her?”

Creighton looked at his wife; they weren’t sure what they were having and had not wanted to find out, so choosing a name had been difficult.
Sandra had conceded on one point and agreed a few weeks ago to allow him to choose the name if it was a girl, so long as it wasn’t Dorothy, Toto or Kansas; all of which he suggested.

“Irena Grace,” he said proudly, slicing through the thick cord and handing the scissors back to his little sister, who was
blinking away a tear from her eye. Mary smiled as she left the room to inform the family of the newest Ashford and leave the professionals to their jobs.

Irena stayed at the foot of the bed to help Sandra deliver the placenta as Creighton sat near his wife’s head, watching
while their baby immediately latched on to the breast he so loved himself.

“A sight worthy of worship,” he told her with a
soft grin curving his handsome lips. He was never more proud of anything that had happened in his life than the birth of the babies he created with is beloved Sandra.

Later that night she woke to find her husband walking the floor with their little girl, humming a soft melody to her. She couldn’t help but smile, not wanting to disturb his bonding time with her. She knew Irena Grace would be hungry soon enough and his time with her would be over, so she just lay there watching as he caressed her tiny hand and kissed her dark hair. She looked like a little angel with soft pink cheeks and a tiny little nose. Her hand were barely the size of the tip of her father’s little finger, but she already had him wrapped around it, just as her older brother did.

Brandon arrived before bed, cleaned and in
his jammies, to say good-night to his parents and to meet his little sister. He loved her instantly and began telling her all about the farm and the monkeys at the zoo, promising to take her to see them soon..

Sandra was very happy with
the way her life had turned out; a small town girl from Hoisington Kansas, who met and fell in love with a perverted stalker from England, while on vacation in the south of France. Now that was the way fairytale romances were supposed to happen.
