Adam Hochschild. Bury the Chains: Prophets and Rebels in the Fight to Free an Empire's Slaves. Boston: Houghton Mifflin, 2005. “The Age of Abolition” is sometimes computed to have begun as early as 1748 with the criticism of slavery in Montesquieu's Esprit des Lois. But the idea that all men are born free appeared in Captain Johnson's History of the Pyrates, a book published in London in 1724 that some think was written by Daniel Defoe. And the first decree banning slavery appeared in Portugal in 1761. However it took time for the anti-slavery impulse to go from an idea that was occasionally bandied about to a mass movement. Thomas Jefferson and John Adams. Declaration of Independence. 1776. These words were influenced by the creation myth of the Old Testament as seen through a deist Christian’s eyes. To see how, take a peek at the following. The Wikipedia explains that, “
Avery Cardinal Dulles, a leading Roman Catholic theologian reports, ‘he [Thomas Jefferson] saw Christianity as the highest expression of natural religion and Jesus as an incomparably great moral teacher."

“Alija Izetbegović Islamic activist and former president of Bosnia and Herzegovina 1996-2000

In 1970, Izetbegović published a manifesto entitled The Islamic Declaration, a work which contributed greatly to his later portrayal as an Islamic fundamentalist. He highlighted the decayed state of Islam and called for an religious and political regeneration across the Muslim world, although the book made no reference to Bosnia. In two particularly controversial passages, he declared that ‘there can be neither peace nor coexistence between the Islamic faith and non-Islamic social and political institutions’ and that ‘the Islamic movement must and can, take over political power as soon as it is morally and numerically so strong that it can not only destroy the existing non-Islamic power, but also to build up a new Islamic one’”. "The roots of Muslim mercenaries fighting for the Bosnians stretch back to World War II....the former Mufti of Jerusalem, Hajj Amine al-Husseini helped organize the Bosnian Muslims into several units under [Nazi] SS command, especially the largely Muslim 13th SS ‘Handzar’ division. ...The Bosnian Muslim units, including the Handzar division, joined the Ustashi forces in terror comapigns and ethnic cleansing against the Serbs in what is today western Bosnia-Herzogovina and the Krajina region. …

Bosnian president Isetbegovic's purpose in the wars against the Croats and the Serbs in the 1990 [sic] appeared to be to provoke the NATO intervention that preceded the Dayton peace accords of 1995. The building of the Bosnian Muslim army and the launching its campaigns was entrusted to Commander Ram Delic, whose plan was to precipitate Western intervention and enable the Muslim forces to conduct a major war against both Serbs and Croats. By 1993, Deleic, with help and encouragement from Muslim states abroad, and certainly with the knowledge if not the active help of the CIA, was importing foreign Muslim volunteers, especially moujahiddin veterans of the Afghan war. ...Iran, Syria, Turkey, Egypt and Saudi Arabia are believed to have pledged sophisticated weapons systems, including missiles, heavy artillery, and crews and ammunition. Iran delivered many of these supplies in C-130 cargo flights, detected by UN observers, to which the United States deliberately turned a blind eye." John K. Cooley in George Baravelle, editor.

. Medieval Indian historian K. S. Lal says that the peaceful nature of the Sufis has been grossly exaggerated. “Chishtias are the most accommodative of the Sufi orders,” he writes. “Suhrawardis and Naqshbandis are Sufis of a different kind. Shaikh Ahmad Sirhindi and Shah Walliullah were Sufis of this second sort. The latter considered Mahmud of Ghazni the greatest Muslim after the pious Caliphs. He invited Ahmad Shah Abdali to invade India to destroy the power of the Hindus. And he is considered by Muslims as a leading light of Islamic philosophy.” Mahmud of Ghazni set records in bloodshed. To quote one of his Islamic admirers, “in more than 20 successful expeditions he amassed the wealth with which to lay the foundation of a vast empire that eventually included Kashmir, the Punjab, and a great part of Iran.” n.a.
