Candice Cooper, aka Candi, has loved the Dean brothers for years, since they were all gangly teenagers, tripping down the winding path to adulthood. When her father died, she said goodbye to her father’s farm and the Dean brothers and left. But even though she’d driven her rusty Oldsmobile out of town on that sad day so long ago, she’d left her heart behind. For years her memories and fantasies about Justin and Cody have haunted her. Every relationship she’s tried has failed. Now four years later, Candi returns to the home she once shared with her father and the two men who she can’t stop thinking about. She needs to either surrender to the desire burning in her soul or put them both out of her life and her heart forever.

But the brothers have other ideas.

Although their souls have withered since the day Candi left town, now that she’s back, they’re both fighting to overcome a fierce, desperate need for her. Fighting, and losing. They both love her. They both need her. And, if they can finally defeat the demons from their past, they’ll have her, and this time, they won’t let her go.

But to break from the grip of the darkness that has bound them may mean destroying the woman they love.

One twenty-three.

One twenty-four.

One twenty-five.

Candi sat up. It was no use. It was too fucking hot to sleep. And that kiss kept playing over and over and over in her head, making her that much hotter. She’d already masturbated twice. Her fingers still smelled of her musky sweet juices. But, still, she was tight all over, and her mind wouldn’t shut down.

She needed another kiss.

Or, better yet, she needed what that kiss had promised.

“Like that’s going to happen,” she whispered as she padded barefoot across the old, creaky wood floor toward the window.

There was no breeze. The air outside was still and muggy. In the distance, she heard the rumble of thunder. She saw the flicker of lightning far off to the north.

“What am I doing here? What?”

She told herself she’d come back here for some closure. After breaking up with her boyfriend and losing her job, she’d decided to make a move. Back home. She’d needed to see them--Justin and Cody. They’d haunted her thoughts and dreams for a long, long time, and she’d finally come to the conclusion, after drowning her sorrows in way too many margaritas, that she would never be able to have a healthy, solid relationship with a man until she either hooked up with one or both of the Dean brothers, or finally put that idea to rest.

It was looking like the latter would most likely happen. Not the former.

But then there was a soft knock. The doorknob rattled. And, when the door inched open, the hinges whined.

She was standing nude, in front of the window, moonlight and the occasional flash of lightning outside illuminating the room. It was pretty dark. But she knew who had come to pay her a visit. Her pussy clenched.

“Justin,” she whispered, tiptoeing toward the bed. He was headed there too. She beat him, sitting with her back resting against the old scarred wooden headboard. She pulled the sheet up, grasping it to her chest.

He sat next to her legs, stared into her eyes. “Why did you come here?”

“I had some unfinished business to take care of.”

“What ‘unfinished business’?”

Letting go of the sheet, she grabbed two hands full of silky, wavy hair and pulled until his mouth was crushing hers. She kissed him with all the passion she’d kept pent up inside for the past four years. Her tongue pushed inside his mouth, pulling in his flavor, exploring every decadent inch. His tongue found hers, stroked, conquered, possessed. And before she realized it, she was on her back, writhing beneath him. He swung a leg over her hip, straddling her body. His hands found her breasts, kneaded their soft fullness. His fingers flicked over her nipples, and little jabbing stabs of pleasure zipped and zoomed through her body.

“Ohmygod,” she murmured as she tipped her hips up. Her pussy ached, a pounding throb beating in time to her racing heartbeat. She needed a touch there, in her center. A stroke. No, she needed more than that. So much more.

“Dammit,” he murmured as he sprinkled kisses over her cheeks, her eyelids, her neck. “I don’t want to want you like this. It isn’t right.”

“Shut up. Just shut up.” She arched her back, pushing her breasts into his hands. His palms and pads of his fingers were rough, calloused. They felt so fucking good on her sensitive nipples. “I don’t give a damn about what’s right or wrong. It just is. That’s all.”

“But I promised to protect you.” His hands skimmed down her body, and ripples of wanting quaked her. He called it wrong, but to her this was right. One hundred percent right. Her body had been waiting for this moment for a long time. His hands possessing her. His arms wrapped around her. His lips claiming her.

“From whom?”

“Assholes like me.” He sat back, looking down upon her with dark eyes. His face was a mask of hard male need. But in his eyes she read something else. Indecision. Confusion.

“You’re not an asshole.” Lying like this, naked, sucking in great big gasps of air, she felt exposed and awkward.

As if he sensed how she felt, Justin pulled the sheet over her, covering her breasts. “I am if I let this go any further.”

“Why did you come in here tonight? It’s the middle of the night. You didn’t sneak into my room to discuss the weather.”

“I wanted to warn you about Cody.”

“Warn me?”

“Cody wants you.”

“Like you do?”

Even in the semi-darkness, Candi could see Justin’s face was turning red. “Like I do.”

“There’s no shame in it, Justin. None at all. Look at us. We’re attracted to each other. That’s normal. You and your brother are the sexiest men I’ve ever known. I’d have to be blind not to notice.” She pulled on his shoulder, coaxing him to lie next to her. She rolled on her side to face him. “You asked why I came here, and I’ll tell you. I came to see you. And Cody. I’ve been trying to push you two out of my head for the past four years. I’ve dated men. I was even engaged. But none of those relationships worked out. And you know why that is?”

Justin shook his head. A wave of thick hair flopped down over his forehead.

“Because I can’t stop wondering what if,” she said as she stared at his gorgeous face. He had a mole on his cheekbone, under his eye. It was so fucking sexy. And his eyes, a dark gray-blue, were the shade of a stormy sea.

“’
What if

what?”

“What if you and I and Cody allowed ourselves to actually acknowledge what we feel for each other.”

“That’s crazy.”

“no, it isn’t.”

“Yes, it is. We can’t do that.”

She wanted to scream. She wanted to pound on that broad chest of his until he caught her wrists in his fists and pinned them up over her head. “Why?”

“Because we just can’t. And I know you’re going to do your damned best to break me.” He rolled over top of her, caging her head between his bent elbows. “I’m warning you, don’t do it.”

Her breath caught in her throat. When he was like this, emanating raw power, like a wild animal on the verge of pouncing upon its prey, her nerves did crazy things. “Or what?”

“I promise, you’ll regret it.” He bent down, brushed his mouth over hers in a teasing almost-kiss, then heaved off of her. And before she had caught her breath again, he was gone.

“Wow,” she muttered to herself as she closed her eyes. “Now that should help me fall asleep.”

Chapter 1

It was hotter than a whore house on nickel night. The air was so thick it clung to Candice-aka Candi--Cooper like a damp wool blanket.

It was no use. There was no way she was going to fall asleep. Especially when she knew Justin and Cody, her stepmother’s nephews, were just a few feet away, on the other side of that wall. Sweating. Their suntanned skin glistening with beads of perspiration.

In the four years since she’d left Michigan, both of the Dean brothers had changed. For the better. It was hard to believe that was possible. She’d thought they were perfect before, when they’d first come to live with her dad and stepmom. But now their muscles were a little thicker, their shoulders a little wider. Their hair a little shaggier. And their smiles a whole lot wicked...er.

Sadly, neither one of them had picked her up from the airport. No. She’d been stuck listening to her bratty stepsister, Angela, blah-blah-blah for forty minutes while they’d zoomed down I-275 at ten over the limit. She was grateful for that one small blessing--Angela had a lead foot.

Upon arrival at the turn-of-the-century farmhouse that had once been her dad’s home, she’d been greeted by her stepmother, Sandy, and endured a few hours of awkward, stilted conversation. Finally she’d pretended to drag herself upstairs to the hotter-than-an-oven of a second floor, claiming flying made her exhausted.

They’d come in about ten minutes ago--Justin and Cody. She’d heard their deep rumbling voices echo through the house. Naturally, she inched open the door and took a little peek, catching them as they strolled into the room next to hers. She’d seen them, but they hadn’t seen her...yet.

She inched open the door for a second time and poked her head out. Damn. Nobody was out there. She shut the door yet again.

Now what?

Ages ago, when she’d come to this old ramshackle farmhouse to visit her dad for the summer, there’d been a pond on the property, way in the back. The first time she’d ever seen a guy naked was on the banks of that pond. On a hot summer’s night like this. She wondered if that pond was still there.

A swim would be refreshing.

A naked swim with Justin and Cody would be even better.

She got rid of her underwear, donned an easy-to-dispose outfit of shorts and tank top and tiptoed out into the hall. After hesitating at the closed door to the next bedroom, and hearing low male voices, she rapped softly.

One of them said, “Yeah?”

She fussed with her hair, took a deep breath and opened the door. Inside, she found one brother--Justin--lying on the bed, arms crossed behind his head. Cody was sitting at a desk, staring at a laptop screen. The screen, she noted, went black within seconds of her entering.

“There you are!” Justin leapt from the bed and crossed the room in two long strides. Before she could respond, he hauled her off her feet, squeezing her until her lungs deflated. “It’s damn good to see you.”

“It’s good to see you too.”

He no sooner released her than Cody grabbed her for a hug too. His hug wasn’t quite as squeezy, but it was no less warm. The way her body molded to his made more than a few parts of her anatomy tingle.

Somehow, she had to get them to come out to the pond with her.

“Good to see you, too, Cody.” She said, tipping her hips so her pussy pressed against him. He must have enjoyed it because the hug lasted several seconds more than she would have expected. She was not happy when he eventually dropped his arms and stepped back.

“How have you been?” Justin asked.

“Good.” Her gaze jerked from one brother to the other. They were looking a little warm and uncomfortable. Maybe it was the hug. Maybe it was just the stifling heat. “Is there still a pond out back?”

“Sure.” Cody’s lips curled at the corners. How she adored that naughty curl. “Do you remember the way? Or would you like us to walk you down?”

“Oh, I don’t know. I think I can find my own way. But if you’re hot, you’re welcome to join me.”

* * * * *

The water felt like icy satin, rippling over her skin as she dove in. The chill took her breath away. As she surfaced, she rolled onto her back, floating, staring up at a blanket of brilliant, twinkling stars.

It was so quiet out here. Still. And the air smelled different. Like dirt and living things. Nature. She’d forgotten how good the air could smell. Or how nice a simple pleasure, like swimming in a cold pond on a muggy night, could be. She’d needed this. The change of pace. Now, as she floated out here, with nobody around, gazing up into an infinity of stars, she could see she’d become too wound up in things. Too focused on her career. Too busy to just slow down and breathe.

She was ready to make some changes.

She flipped over onto her stomach and dove under the water, eyes closed, cutting through the dark, murky depth toward the shore. Evidently, the boys had decided against joining her. Damn shame, but she wasn’t surprised. Since their mom and dad had gone to prison and they’d come to live with their aunt, Candi’s stepmom, she’d wished they’d make a move. They’d flirted with her here and there but that was as far as it had ever gone.

If she was going to burn off some of her excess energy, she’d have to take matters into her own hands tonight.

As she walked up the pond’s bank, gaze sweeping back and forth along the shadowy area, enclosed by a thin wall of trees and shrubs, she decided out there was as good a place as any to take care of that little need. When she was done, she could jump back into the pond to cool off before heading up to the house.

She spread out her towel, and, still dripping, laid on her back. Her hands glided up and down her nude wet body as her eyelids fell shut. Maybe they wouldn’t come out to swim with her, but she could easily imagine they had. They were standing there now, thigh-deep in the water, skin glistening as the moonlight shimmered in the droplets clinging to their shoulders. Despite the darkness, she could see the hunger in their eyes as they watched her hand slide down her stomach. Their jaws clenched as their hungry gazes focused on her thighs, watching them slowly part to expose her heated center.

And then, there was a touch. A real touch.

She slammed her legs together. Opened her eyes. A wave of cold fear raced through her body.

“It’s just us,” Cody said.

Her face warmed. They’d caught her. “Oh. I...” She slid her feet down, flattening her legs to the ground. One arm crossed her chest, hiding the fullest part of her boobs. “I didn’t pack a swimsuit. Forgot all about this place. I didn’t think anyone would come out here. I was just...relaxing.

“Sorry if we scared you.” Justin knelt beside her. Meanwhile, Cody remained standing, his lips parted every so slightly. It was pretty damn dark outside, so she couldn’t be sure, but she thought he might be blushing.

“Don’t want to interrupt. We were hot too, thought a swim sounded good.” Cody dropped a folded towel on hers, turned toward the pond, and glanced over his shoulder at his brother. “Ready?”

“More than ready.” Justin tipped his head toward the water. “Coming in, Candi?”

“I--“

Before she had a chance to decide whether she wanted to swim or not, Justin scooped her up and ran toward the pond. She wriggled and put up the show of a fight until they plunged below the water. Then their bodies somehow flattened against each other, and something hard and bony poked at her stomach.

There could be no doubt what that bony thing was.

When they surfaced, Justin grabbed a handful of her hair and pulled, tugging her head back a bit, holding her there. His eyes looked a little wild, like he was part man and part animal. The darkness in his gaze took her breath away. She parted her lips to inhale, and he crushed them with his before she could suck in a breath.

He tasted like man and water and need, and she couldn’t believe this was happening. Justin Dean was kissing her. Finally. His tongue pushed into her mouth, sliding along hers, stroking, tasting. The kiss was a feral possession, like no kiss she’d ever experienced.

It made her dizzy.

It made her weak.

It made her wish he was naked too.

She wrapped her legs around Justin’s waist and he groaned into her mouth. The sound vibrated through every cell in her body. And deep inside her, a throbbing heat pulsed. She ached for him to touch her. Everywhere. A moan burbled up her throat.

When the kiss ended, she was still hanging on. Her head was spinning. Her body was on fire. And she was pretty sure she might have combusted if she hadn’t been immersed chest deep in water.

“Dammit, Candi,” he said. “Shit.” Moving gently, but forcefully, Justin pried her off him, holding her waist until she was steady on her feet.

“You’re not glad that happened?” she asked, fingering her lips. They were still tingling. And they tasted so good.

“No.” His gaze met hers, and he shoved his fingers through his saturated hair. “I mean, it was a good kiss. A damn good kiss. But we shouldn’t. You’re like...a sister.”

“I wanted you to,” she admitted, glancing around for Cody, who she’d pretty much lost track of the minute Justin had hauled her off her feet. He was sitting on her towel, watching, silent and semi-cloaked in shadow. “A sister, huh?”

“That’s not an insult.”

Sensing Justin was really upset with her for what had happened--though she wasn’t entirely to blame--she clapped her arms over her chest and started walking toward her towel. Funny, it might be hot enough to bake cookies in her car, but she was feeling a little chilled at the moment.

Justin caught her just as she stepped onto dry land. “I’m sorry.”

“Stop apologizing. It was a kiss. That’s all. A kiss. It’s not a crime. We’re not blood related. No biggie.” Now, she was getting annoyed. She grabbed Justin’s towel and wrapped it around herself. He could use Cody’s if he needed one.

“But it is a big deal to me.”

God help her, but her gaze flicked south of his waist. That was one hell of a pants tent he was sporting.
Big
, it was.

“Yeah, I got that.” Keeping the towel in place to hide her naked body, she wriggled into her shorts. “You’re sorry. Whatever. She pulled her shirt over her head, turning her back to both brothers until it covered her tits. She silently cursed the hard nipples. There was no hiding them. She wadded up the towel in front of her chest. “I’m heading back to the house. I’m cold and tired now, and suddenly a swim doesn’t sound like much fun. See you tomorrow. Goodnight.”

Justin watched Candi stomp off. Every curse word he knew was playing through his mind right now. Dickhead. Bastard. Asshole. “Fuck,” he grumbled, plopping down on the ground, next to his brother.

“I think you’re being to hard on yourself.” Smirking a little, Cody dipped his head, motioning to Justin’s dick, which was still at full mast.

“You got that part right. I am hard. But as far as the other, no. You’re wrong. Candi has always counted on me to protect her. From jerkwads like me. I’ve always been like the big brother she never had. Now she comes home, and what do I do? I lose control and almost molest her.”

“In case you haven’t noticed, Candi isn’t a little girl anymore. She’s all grown up. She doesn’t need protecting. She isn’t your sister. Or mine. You weren’t ‘molesting’ anyone.”

He’d noticed she was all grown up. Oh, had he ever. Her once twiggy little body had filled in. Where once there’d been nothing but skin and bones and lanky lean muscle were soft, luscious, fuckable curves. Her tits were perfection. Her stomach just soft enough to be feminine. Her hips were rounded. And that ass. Holy fuck that ass. If he could have his way, he’d bend her over and fuck the tight little hole until she couldn’t sit. “Yeah. Still, she’s like our sister.”

“Step-cousin...I think. And not technically even that anymore. Her father’s been dead for four years.”

“But we more or less grew up together.”

“No, we didn’t. She came to visit on the weekends, and we pretended not to notice when she grew tits. Don’t try to tell me you didn’t want her back then.”

“Okay, so what? I never acted on it. I never so much as touched her.”

“And that was probably the right thing to do...then. Now...? You’re an adult. She’s an adult.” Cody shrugged.

“I don’t know.” The image of her lying right there, where he was sitting, flashed through his mind. She’d looked so sexy, her pretty legs parted, her hand gliding down to cup her smooth-shaven mound. Her nipples had been hard little points, and even now, he was salivating, thinking about flicking his tongue over them.

“Well, if you can’t, I can.”

“No.”

“I will if she kisses me like that.” Cody cleared his throat. “I’ll find a way to give her what she needs. That was one hell of a kiss.”

“No, you can’t. Hell no.” Justin felt his fingers clench as a shot of adrenaline shot through his body. He’d never wanted to punch his brother before. Not until now. Now, he was thinking he might pummel him until he couldn’t see. Couldn’t Cody see what he was asking? What he was demanding? “No. Fucking. Way.”

“Back off. You’re not her father.” Cody threw a rock into the water. It skipped across the surface before sinking into the murky shadow. “And you’re not my father either.”

“I know. But we--“

“But what? We’re too fucked up to love her? To deserve her? How about we let her decide that?”

“Of course--”

“Right. So if she’s looking for some love, I’m not going to tell her she can’t have it.”

“You’re an asshole.”

“No. I’m a normal guy who wants a beautiful woman. A beautiful
willing
woman.” Cody stood. “You need to accept reality, bro. Obviously, she doesn’t think of you as her big brother anymore. She wants you. Either give her what she wants or step aside and let me try.” Cody took off, up the path that led back to the house, leaving Justin standing there in the dark, his dick so hard he could bust concrete with it, and his body so tight from fury he couldn’t move.
