Nobody's Girl (14 page)

“I don't know what to tell you. That's my family. My daughter is sick and in a real physical life-or-death situation. This shit between me and you can wait.” Mills grabbed his keys. “I'll call you as soon as I can.” He raced out of the room and out the front door.
Farrah stood, flabbergasted. So much had changed in the two weeks she'd gone to Paris for Fashion Week. She didn't understand when or how Mills and Jade had begun communication. What she did know was that she didn't like it one bit.

Farrah tried to be the understanding wife. She tried to be patient, but every second, minute, and hour that passed with no call from Mills while he was with Jade was the equivalent of counting down death. She'd called his phone numerous times, only to get his voice mail. Although she knew he had probably turned it off when he got the hospital, all Farrah could envision was Mills and Jade running off into an empty hospital room to tear each other's clothes off so he could penetrate her eager, wet slit.
Farrah tried to shake her insecurities off, but how could she when her husband just called another woman and child his family? Farrah didn't sleep a wink that night. All night she eyed the clock waiting for him to return home with an explanation, but by morning it was time for her to go to work and Mills was nowhere to be found. Once she was dressed and ready to go, Farrah decided that she didn't need answers to the questions that plagued her mind. She was done. She was over Mills making a fool out of her. As far as she was concerned, he was free to do whatever he pleased and with whomever he pleased.
It was well into the afternoon. Farrah sat at her desk having a long-distance conversation with editor of
Marie Claire
magazine when she heard a loud ruckus outside her door.
“Mr. Mills, wait!” Camden shouted, racing behind him. “You can't just go in there!”
“Watch me!' Mills remarked, storming into Farrah's office.
“What the fuck is this?” He stood in front of her desk holding up a piece of paper.
Stunned by his tyrannical behavior, Farrah held the receiver in her hand.
“Let me call you right back.” Farrah quickly hung up the phone.
“Farrah, I'm so sorry. I tried to stop him,” Camden explained, out of breath.
“It's okay, Camden. Close the door behind you, please.” Farrah forced a smile onto her face.
Camden nodded and closed the door quietly.
“Have you lost your fuckin' mind?” Farrah hissed.
“Nah, but you've obviously lost yours. So you want an annulment?” Mills shook the paper.
“That's what the note said, didn't it?” Farrah responded, sarcastically.
“Why? Because I went to the hospital last night to see my daughter?” Mills mean-mugged her.
“If that's what you think, then you're sadder than I thought you were.” Farrah smugly crossed one leg over the other.
“The baby was sick and she stopped breathing, Farrah. She's all right now, but the doctors say she has severe asthma. I stayed at the hospital all night because they had to give her a breathing treatment on a nebulizer machine to get her oxygen levels back up.”
“And I'm sorry to hear that.” Farrah sat, stone-faced. She did feel somewhat guilty that since Mills left, she never even thought or wondered if the baby was okay. But of course she wasn't about to sit there and apologize. If it wasn't for all of Mills's bullshit, they would have never been in this predicament in the first place.
“I was gonna call you, but my phone went out.”
“Mmm-hmm, I just bet.” Farrah stared at him blankly.
“So that's it? After everything we've been through?” Mills stood wearily.
“Exactly. After everything we've been through.” Farrah nodded her head in agreement.
“Nah . . .” Mills paced back and forth, then stopped. “Fuck that! We not gettin' no annulment, no divorce, nothing!”
“Mills, I'm done.” Farrah uncrossed her legs and reached into her drawer and took out some files. She calmly started looking over her paperwork and acted like Mills was no longer in her office.
“Well, I'm not! I'm not lettin' you go! You're my fuckin' wife!”
“Whom you've cheated on, lied to, had a baby on, and from the looks of it, you are now rekindling your relationship wit' your baby's mother.” Farrah cocked her head to the side. “Ain't nobody got time for that.”
“So that's what this is about? You think I'm fuckin' with Jade?” He eyed her.
“I honestly don't give a fuck if you are or aren't, but guess what, I'm not gon' stick around to find out. Now if you'll excuse me, I have work to do.” Farrah turned toward her computer.
“You got a lot of nerve playin' the victim when the whole world saw you kissing another man!” Mills barked.
“And guess what . . . I liked it!” Farrah spat as she rose from her chair. “I enjoyed every fuckin' minute of it! Shit, right about now, I wish I
had
fucked him!” she shot with as much venom as she could muster.
Mills wanted to hit her back with something equally cutthroat and low-down, but the words wouldn't form. She'd gone too far this time, but he couldn't let her see the hurt she'd caused. Mills was a man built on pride. Showing emotion wasn't in his DNA. He'd rather play it cool and nonchalant.
“I don't wanna do this anymore! I'm done!” Farrah confirmed.
“Nothing between us is progressing. Since day one it's been one fucked-up incident after another. Every time I get a li'l comfortable, here you go dragging my heart through the mud again. I'm sick of it. I've come to the conclusion that maybe we were never supposed to be together. This whole thing was a mistake. Love isn't supposed to be like this. . . .” Her voice trailed off.
“I'm not gon' allow you to hurt me anymore, I'm not,” she said in defeat.
Mills walked over to Farrah's desk, placed his hands down on it, leaned forward, and said, “I don't give a fuck about none of that. We're not getting' an annulment.” Mills flicked the piece of paper across the room and walked out.
Mills had no idea what he was doing anymore. As he walked to his car, he felt like his life was crumbling before his very eyes. Mills was a victim of his own uncertainty. He'd let it take him over and as a result, his relationship with Farrah was in shambles. He'd cheated, broken her heart, had a kid with his ex, and lied to get her to marry him. Now his good girl was going bad. She'd kissed another man and even though she said she didn't sleep with him, for all Mills knew she could be lying about that. The trust they once held was gone. Mills sat in his car and thought about calling her to say how sorry he was and he was willing to forgive her for what she did in Paris, but he knew nothing he said would change her mind right now. Farrah always said actions speak louder than words, so he had to figure out a way to show Farrah how far he was willing to go to keep his marriage.
Chapter 15
But she's a good girl in a bad world.
–Shwayze, “Cali Trippin'”

J.R. felt like he was going crazy. His schedule had slowed down tremendously since he had finished up his tour. J.R. always took some time off after he toured. It helped to rest his mind and body so he could prepare for his next album. But weeks had gone by and J.R. was still hurting from the way Farrah had deaded things between them before they even started. He promised he'd respect her wishes and leave her alone, but at the time he said it, he didn't think it would be this hard. J.R. didn't even understand why he was so distraught over this situation. He was used to just walking away from girls and not catching feelings. It was like Farrah had a spell over him and he just couldn't make any sense out of it.
What didn't make the transition any easier was how the paparazzi and magazine bloggers kept hounding him by asking questions about what was going on between him and Farrah Mills. Everywhere he went he would see the now-infamous picture of them kissing on stage plastered all over the front pages of magazines and newspapers. Word around the inside celebrity circuit was that her and Corey Mills were still married, but weren't on speaking terms. As messed up as it sounded, J.R. was happy to hear Farrah and her husband weren't talking. It was like music to his ears.
Not that J.R. was wishing anything bad upon Farrah or her marriage, but to know that she and her husband weren't on great terms meant that he still had that little window of opportunity to open. He just had to figure out how to slip in and take her for himself. And especially after he did some digging on this BMX rider Corey Mills, he definitely didn't feel bad if they were heading for divorce.
From what he found out, this dude Corey had been dogging Farrah out from jump. This guy had Farrah as the side chick in the beginning, then made her the main chick and married her. Didn't sound too bad, if it wasn't for the fact that somewhere between them getting back together and getting married, he got his ex pregnant! This was all hearsay to J.R., though. It's not like he had any proof that everything he'd heard was truth, but if any of it was true, he'd be doing Farrah a favor by breaking up her marriage to this asshole. There's no way he would ever do her grimy like that.
“J.R., the game is over. Are you okay? It's like you're here but your head is someplace else,” Lizzy asked, tugging on his arm.
“Nah, I'm cool. I was just thinking about some stuff I have to take care of,” he responded. “You ready to go? We're supposed to go meet up with some of the players and their girls for some food and drinks.”
“Oh. Okay. Ready whenever you are,” Lizzy said, grabbing her sweater.
Right now, Lizzy felt like she was in a dream. Since J.R. had come back from Paris, he had been spending more time with her and being really nice to her. He was hitting her up almost ever other day to hang out. They would order take-out and watch movies, play video games, or just blast music and dance. When he asked her if she'd fly with him to St. Louis to catch a basketball game, she had to contain herself from jumping up and down like an excited toddler. This would be the first time that he'd invited her to go out in public on a one-on-one. He had taken her to the BET Awards before, but that was more of a business-type date because it was work for him. This outing was personal and it meant everything to her that he'd wanted her to come. Lizzy felt like he was finally acknowledging that she could be more than just a fling to him.
The only thing that she found strange was that in all those times that they hung out, he hadn't touched her once. Every time she would try to rub up against him or if she would try to initiate sex, he would immediately pull away. At first, Lizzy was taking it personal, but now seeing that J.R. was dedicating so much time to her, she thought differently. She figured J.R. was really trying to get to know her more on a personal level to see if there was more of a connection there, other than just the sex.
They pulled up to Three Sixty restaurant. Once parked, they were led to the rooftop. It had been completely rented out and converted into a private party. Celebrities oftentimes were forced to close out restaurants so they could have a night out without people asking for autographs or pictures. Lizzy was completely mesmerized when they walked in. The entire rooftop was encased by glass and no matter what angle you turned, you had the most amazing view overlooking the city. From the eastside, you could see the iconic St. Louis Gateway Arch, and from the southside you could look straight into Busch Stadium. Lizzy grew up in Los Angeles. She had never been anywhere outside of California and the time she went to Las Vegas to celebrate her twenty-first birthday.
“I'm gonna go grab a drink, you want anything?” J.R. asked as he placed his hand on the arch of her back and leaned into Lizzy's ear. Just the touch of his hand and how his breath brushed her ear as he spoke made Lizzy want to fuck him on the spot.
“Apple martini, please,” she said with a genuine smile.
J.R. made his way over to the bar and placed the order. As he was about to grab his phone to check his Instagram, he felt somebody push him over.
“Yo! Who da fu—” Before he could finish his sentence, his boy Rock started laughing and reached in to give him a pound.
“I gotchu' son! You shoulda seen your face, nigga. You looked like you were about to fuck somebody up!” Rock exclaimed.
“I was, nigga. You lucky I didn't knock you ass out in front of all your teammates.” Rock laughed. “What's good, my dude? I ain't seen you in a minute.”
“You know me. I'm good. Just chillin'. I ain't been doing shit but playing and focusing on keeping shit good between me and my fiancée,” Rock explained.

Fiancée?
You ready to slow down like that, son?” J.R. asked him.
“Yeah, man. Yo, I ain't even tryin'a sound soft or nothing, but I love Mya. She had my son and she's a great mom. She deserve for me to put a ring on it,” Rock said. “That, plus the shit that happened last year with the side chick I was dealing with, made me come to my senses.”
“Oh word?” was all J.R. could reply. He had no idea what Rock was talking about and he didn't really care to ask. It'd been a minute since they'd seen each other and he was glad they were catching up; but listening to Rock talk about settling down made him think about Farrah again.
“Yeah, I got a story you could write about,” Rock said, smiling. “Peep this. I'm at shorty's crib getting my dick sucked when her man walks in on us! I thought I was about to have to fight and shit, but the nigga just let me walk out!” Rock said as he laughed. “And even after all that, I heard she had his baby and they still fuckin wit' each other. I tell you, man. That dude Corey Mills is a pussy!” Rock yelled out, laughing even harder.
“Yeah, what a pussy,” J.R. agreed. “Hey man, it was nice seeing you, but I gotta roll,” he said as he ran back to Lizzy without waiting for a response from Rock or grabbing the drinks. He'd heard everything he needed to hear. It was funny, how when you were not looking for things everything just fell in your lap.
“Let's go,” J.R. said to Lizzy as he led her by the hand.
“Uhm. Okay,” was all Lizzy said. She wasn't expecting them to leave so soon, but he seemed like a man on a mission, so she knew better than to ask questions.
