Hurt Me (10 page)

I looked back at Allen kind of confused “our?” I felt myself melting into a puddle in the passenger seat of his truck.

“I already told you Eve. I want both of y’all” he looked at me very serious and worried that I was going to turn him away. It really hit me how much he did care for me. I don’t know how or when it happened but we were becoming one and there was no stopping it.

“I still don’t see how you can already know it’s a boy.” I said trying to lighten the mood.

“Oh trust me
, I know.” He puffed his chest up with confidence. I couldn’t help but laugh at how ridiculous he sounded. He really is sure of himself I thought.

Before I knew it we were pulling into Allen’s driveway. I felt my heart kick start and flutter in my chest from anxiety. I watched Allen and his dad unload the horses and pin them up. We all hugged good bye and waved at his dad as he drove off. Time was passing to
o fast now. I wanted it to slow down so I could enjoy every second of this. Allen and I were standing on his front porch. He was looking at me and I was looking at the ground.

“You sure you have to work tonight?” he asked in a deep gravelly sexy tone that I had hard time resisting. I felt my knees get a little week just from the sound of his voice. I groaned a little “Yes, I’m sure.” I answered quietly. He pulled me into him and kissed my forehead. God I loved they he smelled and felt against me.

“What time do you have to be at work?” he asked me.

I felt my mind stutter for a moment since I really didn’t have to work. I was just hoping that Al will let me work a couple hours to make it seem like I worked all day. “Not till six.” I finally answered back. His hands went to my lower back and he pulled me in closer. I felt his breath on my ear and felt my whole body heat up. “We still have some time.” He whispered. I felt his excitement hard against me and knew I couldn’t resist. We went inside the house and didn’t make
it passed the kitchen. We made love right there on the kitchen counter.

After getting dressed for work at Allen’s we left and were on my way to the diner. I couldn’t stop twitching. “Do you want me to pick you up?” he asked me as we pulled into the parking lot.

“Um no, I’m just gonna walk home afterwards. I don’t think Lee is home so it will give me time to pack.”

“And what if he is home?”

“It will be ok.” I lied. I knew Lee was going to be furious. “I have to take care of this myself.” I looked up at Allen with pleading eyes. I had to do this my way, it didn’t matter if he understood or not.

“I can’t risk him hurting you again.” He grabbed my hand and looked as if he wanted to cry.

“He won’t touch me.” I lied again.

“I already said I won’t risk it.” He stared at me with a firm look on his face. I felt my mind racing. I couldn’t let Lee know about Allen
. Lee knew people and I also knew he wouldn’t hesitate to kill him as well. There was no way. “Fine,” I finally got out. “I will be out of here probably around a little after midnight.” I lied for a third time. I knew I would be out earlier.

He
just smiled at me. “I’m gonna take care of you.”

I just gave a sad smile back and shut the door leaving my bag in his truck and headed into the diner.

As I walked into the diner and Al gave me a funny look. “You’re not scheduled today.”

“Oh I must have forgotten… D
id you need anyone extra?”

“No sorry Eve go on get back home and rest some, you look exhausted.”

“Ok thanks. See ya later Al.” I waved to Jenny on my way out. As soon as the door closed I felt tears coming out of my eyes. This is not going as planned. He isn’t even home I reminded myself. I needed to calm down. I shook off my nerves and headed home. I’m just gonna get my clothes and money together then call Allen and get the hell out of there. Screw this whole facing Lee plan I just wanted to be back with Allen.

I started to see my house appear in the distance and felt myself walking faster. I just wanted to get in and out as fast as possible. I made it to the door and realized Lee’s truck was here. But that can’t be right I thought. Maybe one of his buddies brought it over. I went to unlock the door and realized it was already unlocked. I felt my heart drop and vomit in my throat. Oh shit I thought. I was about to turn and just start running but the door opened and in front of me was a drunken pissed off Lee.

“How was work, sweet-heart?” He asked me while slurring his words. He smelt like puke and whiskey. I made my stomach churn more. I still couldn’t form words from the shock of him even being here. He seemed annoyed with my silence and pulled me into the house by my hair and slammed the door shut behind us.

“Where were you this weekend?” he asked me.

“I was working.” I stared at the floor avoiding eye contact with him.

“Don’t
you fucking lie to me!” He forced me to look him in the face. “I’ve been here since Saturday and you haven’t come home, noy once.” He spat in my face. I felt my knees give out and I was on the floor in shock. He took this as confirmation of me knowing exactly what he talking about. All I could think was to run but Lee still had my hair firmly in his grip. “Yeah that’s right you little bitch, you didn’t think I would get out did you?” I was still silent. I couldn’t get my mind to comprehend all this through the fear that was taking over me. “Were you planning on leaving again?” He shook my head by my hair. I cried out in pain

“No Lee!” Tears started streaming down my face.

“Then where were you?”

I didn’t have an answer. “Please Lee, just calm down.”

“Don’t tell me to calm down you cheating little whore.”

“I wasn’t Lee, please!

“Oh and it gets better.” He said with a nasty sarcastic grin on his face. “While you were out fucking around I decided to take some time to look around the house to see if I could find out where you went.” He then pulled my hair even tighter and got right in my face. “Do you
wanna know what I found?” he asked. Without giving me a chance to answer he forced me up and walked me to the bedroom. The bottom drawer to the dresser was pulled out and spread across the room was everything I had saved. I felt the air in my lungs escape me and I was having problems pulling in more. I couldn’t believe this nightmare that was spreading out before me. I started to feel real fear. I had never been in this deep with Lee before. I felt the blood drain from my face; I started to think about what I could do, how would I escape this?

“So what were you planning on doing Evangeline? You
wanna leave?” he asked in a threatening tone. All I could do was shake my head no as tears streamed down my face.

“I DO EVERYTHING FOR YOU!” he shouted. He let go of my hair as I sunk to the floor. He started to throw things around the room.

I started to feel anger rise up in me. I looked at him and stood up. “You have done nothing for me except make my life a living hell!” I slapped him across the face and turned to run but he caught me by my hair at the door. I screamed again in pain.

“You fucking little
, bitch.” He said. “What do I have to do to make you understand that you are mine? I told you if you tried to run again I would kill you. Did you think I was joking?” I tried to get away again as he threw me on the bed. He started to rip off my uniform. I tried to fight back but Lee was a lot bigger than I was. I heard him un-zip his pants and began to fight even harder.

“NO! NO!” I screamed at him over and over. He just laughed in my face.

“You know you want this baby, don’t fight it.”

I started to cry even harder. He forced himself on me and I began to buck to try to get him off me. He put more weight on me and it felt like I was going to burst, I couldn’t breathe. He was too heavy. When he finished he looked back at me and he still looked pissed.

“Was that better than your little boyfriend?” he asked me. I curled into a ball on the bed and couldn’t stop crying. He grabbed my ankle and pulled me towards him. “Quit being such a little bitch Evangeline.” He stood over me “It can’t be any worse than your dad can it?” He asked with amusement on his face. I felt so broken at this moment. I just wanted him to hurry and be done with me so he would leave. He pulled me onto the floor and kicked me in the thigh. “Get up.” He said. I started to pull myself up as he grabbed under my arm and pulled me the rest of the way. “Do you still want to leave?” he asked me. I didn’t have to answer. He knew by the look on my face that the first chance I had to run I was gonna be gone. “I can see you still haven’t learned your lesson.” He grabbed the hair on the back of my head and bashed my face into the wall. I felt blood trickle from my nose. The pain was excruciating. I cried as loud as I could from the pain. “Shut up!” he yelled.  I just kept screaming. He back handed my face and I felt the sharp pains shoot through my nose all over again. I felt my knees give out but he wouldn’t let me drop to the floor.

“Stand up Evangeline!”

I tried but was unsuccessful. “Fine you want on the floor so bad!” He started to let me down but not without bashing my head on the side of the bed post. I pulled my knees to my chest, hid my face, and cried. He kicked me over and I fell onto my side. He started to kick me repeatedly in my chest and stomach. My hands kept trying to protect the baby. It was all I could think about as he kicked me over and over. He was screaming things I couldn’t understand. Finally his boot came down on my head knocking me out.

Chapter Seventeen

It was 12:30 in the morning and still no sign of Eve. She should be off by now. Walking into the diner to find her I looked around and didn’t see her anywhere. I saw her waitress friend walk by and I grabbed her shoulder to get her attention. She whipped around real quick with a shocked look on her face

“Oh geeze you scared me!” she said while she brought her hand to her heart.

“I’m sorry but have you seen Evangeline?” I looked around again. “She was supp
osed to be off 30 minutes ago.” Lucy gave me a weird look.

“Honey she wasn’t scheduled for today. Al sent her home hours ago.”

My heart sunk.

“Are you alright sweetie?”

“Yeah, yeah I’m fine.” I said as I turned to walk out of the diner. I didn’t quite understand what was going on. Did Eve not want me, did I push her to fast. I needed to know so badly but I wasn’t sure about showing up at her house. I felt on edge I needed to make sure she was alright. With that thought I jumped in my truck and headed to her house.

As I parked in the front there weren’t any lights on and no vehicle in the driveway. I turned the truck off and my heart started pounding loudly in my ears. I prayed she was here and safe. She had to be and if that bastard was there then I wouldn’t mind pounding his face in. Knocking on the door no one answered. I didn’t hear any sounds from the inside either. I knocked again but this time
it sounded like I was going to knock the door down.

“Evangeline!”
I yelled. “Open the door!” I waited and still nothing. I tried the door knob and I couldn’t believe my luck as it turned. I braced myself as a started to push the door open, not knowing who was on the other side. It was pitch black and it took a minute for my eyes to adjust but it seemed like no one was home. “Eve, are you in here?” I was starting to feel like I was talking to myself. I walked in a little further and I still didn’t see anyone. Turning towards the kitchen I heard a faint moan. My heart stopped. I stood as quietly as I could to see if I could hear it again and try to figure out where it was coming from.

I started to take another step but heard the moan again. I waited even longer this time and found the door that the noise was behind. I slowly opened the door and saw a crumpled up Eve on the floor between her wall and the bed. I ran and kneeled next to her trying to pull her onto my lap.

“Eve, baby are you okay?” I shook her a little “Please answer me Eve.” There was still no response. I pulled out my cell phone and dialed 911.

Chapter Eighteen

Trying to open my eyes and figure out where I was seemed so difficult. I could hear this constant beeping sound that was starting to make my head pound. I tried to turn my head towards the noise but it sent sharp pains throughout my body. What happened? I thought to myself. I gripped my stomach wondering if my baby was okay. I tried to get up but there were wires all around me, constricting me. The beeping started coming faster the harder I would breathe. A nurse finally came in with a sweet smile on her face and a worried look in her eye.
