Chasing Rainbows (22 page)

Can you remember the night you wrote that pantomime and used all the people we know as characters?

That was wicked and so very funny, not sure if they would have laughed though!"

“Yes” she answered as she took the note book out of Doug's hand and stuffed it into her bag.

Are you hungry Doug? I am starving”. Olivia stood up and straightened her clothes as Doug replied, “Yes I am starving too, just give me a minute to change love and we shall go and find a steak.

The clouds were lifting as they entered the restaurant. The sun was trying to creep through the gaps, showing pools of deep late afternoon blue.

Olivia and Doug sat opposite each other and after ordering a starter of prawn cocktail, Olivia began, “Can I ask you something please, something you said earlier is bothering me?”

Of course you can, “Doug sat back, took a sip of his wine and he replied, “Fire away”.

He was not prepared for the small speech that followed.

Olivia put her hands between her knees and looked down, the expression on her face showed that she was struggling to find the words that she needed to say. Slowly, she began, “At the boat you said you will always remember me with a note book and pen in my hand”

Doug nodded and she continued, “Well I am beginning to wonder what we are actually doing and why I came to your office that day. Do we continue as before? Stop now?”

Olivia sighed and went on, “ The longer we carry on we increase the odds of us being caught.

Where is all this going? Is it going anywhere?

We have got so many good memories now and I am feeling a bit lost. Should we quit while we are ahead?”.

Doug watched her intently, seeing a myriad of expressions and emotions fighting on her face in an attempt to make sense of what, indeed, was happening.

He thought for a while, the silence was deafening and then he took her hand in his and said, “I don't know, I really don't know.

What I do know is that I have been so miserable without you. I have missed you and without you in my life there is no reason for it.

You are my joy, my reason to be.

Do you remember all those months ago in Leeds whilst we were doing the second fashion show?”

Olivia nodded.

Doug went on. “Well, nothing has changed since then. Well, yes it has.

I love you more. I dream constantly of you.

I need your kisses for my survival. I want to be with you and hold you every morning.

I want you to be the last thing I see at night. You know how hard things are for me having a wife and Gerry.

It would be so hard to split up with Mary. We have children together and a grandchild now.

So much to take into account. How would she live? Could she manage without me?

I know we haven't had a marriage for years.

No sex, no future. She doesn't want to do anything with me anymore and I am so lonely.

Gerry just has become a habit I can't get rid of but know I must. I am scared that she might tell Mary and then I have lost everything.

If I rock the apple cart I shall be the bad man”.

Doug shook his head to clear the gathering tears in his eyes. “I am really stupid trying to keep everyone happy, I really am”.

Olivia looked sternly at him and with force delivered back, “Stop right there, I am sorry I said anything now, forget it.

We don't have long together as it is and our moments together are so precious.

I cannot make decisions for you. The ball is in your court. I am just standing here .”

The prawns arrived and the conversation halted.

There was more than a little discomfort between them now. People who have affairs have to be aware of the consequences.

How does anyone know what a right decision is?

Olivia remembered the words from a good friend when she told her about Doug.

She said in horror, “What on earth are you doing Olivia? All married men are bad news, they never leave their wives. Well rarely!

They stay in unhappy marriages because they are too cowardly and do not want to rock their little world and start over with the woman they really should be with. The one who loves them.”

Olivia wished that Doug was stronger but after that soap box speech of his she knew there might never be a future for them, no matter how deep the love.

By the end of the meal they were satisfied and happy again, the conversation before the prawns forgotten.

Doug and Olivia sang their way to the woods.

They walked for a while hand in hand, before sitting down in a small mossy hollow that curled round them and gave them the privacy to make the love they so badly craved.

It was hurried and not very satisfying. Doug loved to spend time on foreplay but as the clock was against them this did not happen and the foreplay was a quick introduction to what turned out to be an unsatisfying 'bonk'.

It was a shame as the setting was a romantic picture of greenery and calm.

When they arrived back to his car Doug held Olivia in his arms, his tongue slowly finding hers in their final kiss, before he asked her, “So are we to continue, what do you think?”

There it was, that wicked grin, running across her face, dancing in her eyes. “I suppose that's for me to know and you to find out. I will call you.”

As Olivia sped off she turned the music up and Doug heard , Curtis Mayfield singing 'Love to keep you in my mind'.

He was sad to see her go. It felt like the first time he said goodbye to her, all those months ago.

Before Olivia turned the corner her hand came out of the window and waved back at him.

Doug sat in his car for a while trying to make sense of it all. As he turned the engine on he realised that he really needed to sort himself out.

The call came on a Wednesday morning a few weeks later.

A sultry voice whispered down the phone, “What are you doing right now?”

Doug was taken aback as he was not expecting Olivia to call again, even though she said she would.

Not a lot” he replied, “Why?”

I have missed you”, she whispered, “ How about calling at mine?

Doug asked, “When?”

Right now,” was the reply.

Doug looked at his diary, he had to be in Halifax by two and decided he could call in for a cup of tea on his way.

He could hear Olivia smiling as he said that yes he would come.

Olivia said, “I am waiting” and the call ended.

Doug sat stunned for a moment , there was total silence from her since they were at the boat and at times he thought that maybe she changed her mind about continuing to see him.

He argued with himself more than once as to whether she would call or not.

He knew her well enough that she would keep her word. She said she would call and now she had.

Olivia loved to play games and perhaps this was one of them?

Doug drove up to an imposing detached house.

He knew instantly that Olivia lived there as the garden had her mark all over it.

It was colourful and a rainbow of flowers sparkled in the sunlight. Perhaps there were even fairies hidden under the leaves.

Olivia had a childlike quality about her that made you believe in fairies and Santa Claus and her face would light up when she walked through her imagination and shared her thoughts.

She had the ability to take Doug to another world with her stories and forget the stressful life that he led.

The imagination is a wonderful thing as it can take a person anywhere to enjoy fantasy and dreams.

Only Olivia could make a garden like the one he was walking through now.

It was a very warm day and Doug felt the beads of sweat popping up on his brow. He was nervous as he knocked on the door.

He waited a few minutes before the green gloss door with shiny brass fittings slowly opened and there before him was the vision of his dreams.

Her long golden hair flowing below her shoulders. Her small perfect feet, bare on the tiled floor.

He knew what was hidden under an oversized pink T shirt covered in the navy words of 'All you need is love'.

Olivia locked the door behind them and he followed her into a classical designer lounge.

The décor surprised him. It was not as he imagined.

Olivia presented as some wild, free thinking, dizzy hippy chic and he expected colours and chaos.

Instead he was surrounded by cool blues, browns and cream. Yes she certainly had taste. It was a comfortable room.

Doug sank into the soft navy leather sofa and sipped the coffee that was placed before him.

It was strange, sitting in Olivia's marital home. He felt like he was trespassing and should not be there. It felt almost criminal and exciting.

Surrounded by her own things and in Olivia's environment Doug saw another side to Olivia and the complexity of the enigma that was this amazing lady.

He felt a pull on his heart strings. He wanted her so much.

Doug wanted a life with Olivia and could not imagine being without that crazy grin and those laughing eyes.

Olivia sat down across the room from Doug. She smiled and sipped her coffee, those big brown eyes staring at him over the rim of the mug.

He found it hard to keep his eyes off the top of her legs that were barely covered by the T shirt.

He could almost see the mystery that was hidden beneath and found it hard to concentrate on the small talk that was happening between them.

They discussed the weather, her house and garden, his boat and her next project. At times conversation dried up and Doug would look around in semi embarrassment.

Olivia noticed his discomfort and began to tease him.

Do you like me in this T shirt?” she asked, wriggling at the same time.

He wished she hadn't done that as a familiar feeling began to run through his veins.

Does it make you want me, Doug?”

Doug nearly dropped the cup he was holding. “You know I always want you , Olivia. I want to see more and more of you but you know we both have so many commitments and such busy lives”.

He wasn't able to read the expression on her face as she slowly got up and walked towards him.

Olivia took the cup from him. She was in control, this was her territory. Olivia put the cup down on the side table.

The atmosphere was electric with anticipation.

Facing him she now moved down and sat astraddle on him. He could feel her mound directly over his crotch and she moved, just enough to awaken the sleeping demon within.

Olivia took Doug's face in her hands and kissed him very slowly, her tongue searching to find it's mate. Tongues now doing the dance of lust, Doug felt his bulge go hard, very hard.

Doug ran his hands down Olivia's body feeling it's shape beneath that awful T shirt. Olivia didn't seem at all bothered by the fact that they were in her house.

She took hold of his hand and led him upstairs.

Opened the guest bedroom door and said, “We like to look after our guests”.

They entered a cosy looking room with flowered wallpaper and a king size bed that looked as though it was dressed to be photographed for a designer magazine.

Olivia began to kiss Doug and proceeded to undress him, starting at his tie slowly, kissing each part of his body as she uncovered it.

As she pulled his underpants down his member sprung out leaving him vulnerable. Olivia touched it with her forefinger, “Mmmmm...” she said and placed her lips on it in a welcome, "Hello there".

She pushed Doug onto the bed and swiftly took off the T shirt, to reveal the perfection that was she.

Waiting for her to lie down beside him, Olivia surprised Doug and knelt on the pillow next to him.

As she bent down to kiss him, her hand slowly stroked his belly , moving ever nearer to his vulnerability.

Doug sensed that Olivia was to lead this session of their togetherness and was eager to follow.

She was totally in control and he liked it.

He saw the wicked smile and felt in awe of this woman who was like no other.

Olivia reached for his testicles and cupped them in her hand.

Oh God!” he moaned.

She slowly began to play with the small opening at the end of his manhood as she said, “Slide down the bed please”.

As he did so Olivia moved her right leg over Doug's body so that she was hovering directly over his face, before slowly lowering herself onto his mouth.

His mouth opened to receive her and his tongue shot into her, to be enveloped by the softness of her mystery, that was already moist with the welcoming juice of her love.

Olivia began to move up and down on him, giving him space to explore every crevice between her legs whilst she purred with satisfaction.
