“
Oh.”
“
I’d rather that they think you ARE dead so they don’t come back for you.”
Tara looked over at Shadow as she continued to drive. The thought of them coming back for her terrified her. “It’s ok, it will NEVER happen again.”
As they cruised through the city, Shadow told Tara to turn onto the interstate. “Why?” She asked.
“
Just do it. We’re going somewhere different tonight.” He told her.
She did as Shadow asked but looked at him with question. “I just thought we’d go some place new and different.” He explained. She shrugged it off and continued to follow his directions.
They made small talk during the drive, anticipating if she were carrying a boy or a girl and how cute the baby would be. When they arrived at the restaurant for dinner that night, Tara was surprised that Shadow had chosen a very expensive steak house. While she had never been there before, she knew they were outrageously priced.
“
Shadow, I don’t think we’re dressed to go in there.” She said as she looked herself and Shadow over. He was wearing a pair of old jeans with the knees ripped up and a concert t-shirt; she wore a pair of dark green jeans with a beige maternity top.
“
It’s fine. Who cares how we look?” He smiled at her. “No matter what you’re wearing, you always look beautiful to me. After everything you’ve—we’ve—been through, we deserve a nice treat.”
With that, Shadow jumped out of the car and walked around to open Tara’s door. He extended his hand to help her get out. Much to her surprise, they seemed to know Shadow as soon as they entered the restaurant. The hostess led the couple to a cozy, secluded table near the back of the restaurant. The waitress came and asked for their drink order as soon as they were seated.
“
How do they know you?” Tara whispered.
“
Everyone knows me.” He said as he flashed a sly smile at her.
They continued to look over the menu as they waited on their drinks. Tara was famished by dinner and ready to order. As soon as the waitress came back, she took their dinner order.
“
You know what?” Tara asked Shadow; he looked at her with his full attention. She continued, “You make me the happiest woman on Earth. I’m so glad that we met that night at my brother’s house.”
He smiled at her. “I know baby doll; I feel the same way. I couldn’t imagine my life without you or our little baby bump.”
Dinner arrived shortly after they ordered. “I can’t believe how fast our dinner was ready.” She said.
“
Well eat up. Even the doctor said that you need to be eating more. I didn’t want to say it, but I told you so.” He said as he smiled at her. “And we’re going to order dessert, too.” He added.
Tara rolled her eyes at him. He was always thinking of her. She truly was the luckiest woman to have such a caring man who was also very willing to protect her, even if it meant his life. Tara brought up her plans for the baby’s nursery and how she was just dying to find out what the baby was going to be. Shadow attentively listened to her; he didn’t care what she wanted to talk about, he just loved listening to her.
Shadow ordered a dessert of fried ice cream and chocolate cake as they were finishing up their dinner. “How did you know I love chocolate cake?” She asked, completely surprised that he knew that about her.
“
Because I pay attention. Since you’ve been pregnant, you must eat at least one a week.” He said as he laughed at her.
When the waitress came back with their desserts, Shadow began to stand up. Tara thought he was excusing himself to use the restroom but he came right by her side as the waitress sat the plate on the table and knelt down on bended knee. Confused, Tara looked at him for an answer as to what was going on. Shadow nodded his head toward the chocolate cake that was now plated before Tara. She looked down and saw a diamond ring sitting atop of the chocolate icing. Her jaw dropped as she began to choke up.
Shadow took Tara’s hand into hers and removed the ring from the cake. “Tara, I love you so much and I’ve always told you that I’ll love and protect you until the end.” He held the ring up to her finger and continued, “This ring has no end; it’s one continuous circle. I never want my time with you to end; I want to spend the rest of our lives together. Will you marry me?”
Tears began to instantly well up in Tara’s eyes. She nodded her head and whispered, “yes” to Shadow as he slipped the gorgeous diamond ring onto her finger. She bent forward and wrapped her arms around him as tightly as she could.
Shadow smiled at his beautiful, yet tearful, fiancée. “How did you pull all of this off?” She whispered as he took his seat back.
“
I can pull some strings, you know? When you’re the president of a motorcycle club, people know you and respect you.”
She smiled again as she looked down at her perfect ring. “You are truly amazing”, she said with a grin plastered from ear to ear as she wiped another tear from the corner of her eye. “Oh my God, I have to start planning our wedding!” She said with glee and joy. She was so excited that she almost let out a squeal.
“
Settle down, we have plenty of time.” He said as he grinned at her. It made him happy to see her happy.
Tara began throwing question after question to Shadow about when they were getting married, where he wanted to get married, what size wedding he wanted to have and every other wedding question that you could imagine. As she was quizzing him, she stopped herself and asked, “Does the MC know that you proposed to me?”
“
Yes, ma’am, they sure do.”
“
And they were all ok with that?”
“
Yes, ma’am, they sure are.”
This meant that Tara had officially been accepted by the club and was on her way to becoming an official member. She couldn’t wait to tell her brother about their new upcoming wedding and her new status within the club.
