“Dad this is Jonathan, his girlfriend Sarah and his friend Peter,” Justin said.

“It's a pleasure to meet you all,” Robert said shaking their hands.

Then out of the corner of Robert’s eye he saw what looked like a sliver glove lying on one of the tables. It looked like the same glove that had been worn Silverwolf a few days earlier.

He couldn’t believe it.

Was Silverwolf staying here with his son?
Robert didn't stare at it. Because he didn't want to hurt his son, he had chosen not to say anything. Instead he continued to focus on the conversation in front of him.

“Same here, sir,” Jonathan said.

“So are you all just visiting and getting a tour of this facility? You know my son has developed projects in the past for our military,” smiled Robert.

“Oh, yeah?” Peter said.

“Most of it's classified you understand,” Robert explained.

“Thanks dad,” Justin said giving him that awkward look.

“I'm embarrassing you. I'm sorry,” Robert said then looked at Jonathan. “What do you do, Jonathan?”

“I actually design websites for a living,” he answered.

“Really? Any I would be familiar with?” Robert asked.

“I'm afraid not. I'm a freelance contractor. They're only for small businesses and home owners,” he said.

“And what about your other friends here, Justin?” Robert asked.

“I work for the cable car museum,” said Sarah.

“And I build servers and computers for small businesses and homes,” Peter said.

“Good for you,” Robert told them then pretended to look at his watch. “Well I have to get going. It was a pleasure to meet you all.”

Once Robert was outside, away from prying ears, he took out his cell phone and called Gibson.

“Yeah?” Gibson answered.

“Something unexpected just turned up. I believe I found our Silverwolf character,” he answered.

Chapter
21

“Are you sure about this?” Jonathan asked Peter while standing on top of one of the loading crates using his infrared vision to spot human heat sources. He made sure to cloak myself so no one would be able to see him.

“Positive. According to the police reports, they have been unable stop the drug smuggling down there. Either the police are paid up with the right people or they've just been unlucky,” Peter said.

“Well I'm not seeing anything suspicious yet,” Jonathan claimed.

“Justin says the citizens are tired of the crime in this city. We might as well help out the police where they're needed,” said Peter.

Suddenly Jonathan saw a black Suburban pull up next to the docks. Four men, including the driver, got out. Each one of them was carrying an MP5K. When he zoomed in he noticed a familiar face among them from the news reports.

“I'll be dammed. It's Sergeant Randall,” he said.

“It looks like the police are involved. No wonder there aren't any cops in the area,” Peter said.

“I think it's time I put a scare to these guys,” Jonathan said and dropped down to hide in one of the nearby containers.

“Oh, boy. Here we go,” Peter said unenthusiastically.

“Alright. You know the drill. Keep it quiet. Make sure the crates are secured and keep a watchful eye out for Silverwolf. He may be out there. The Alpha team will be coming behind us to check on our work,” Randall said as the four thugs scattered into the field of crates stacked along the nearly endless rows.

Jonathan decided to keep an eye on the one that was closest to him. In fact he was headed straight for the crate Jonathan was standing next to. So he dropped down, peered around the corner, waiting for the goon as he approached the crate. Jonathan fell silent.

He began punching in the code that would open the door. When he was finished Jonathan quickly approached him, slamming his head into the door and knocking him out cold. He then dragged him inside and placed him on the ground. Several stacks of wooden boxes with a strange black gate symbol on them along with the word VeriChip printed underneath it were stacked inside. Jonathan approached them to take a closer look.

“Peter. Run a scan on this symbol along with the name underneath it and tell me what you come up with,” he said as he examined each box carefully. All of them had the same engraving on them.

“Got it,” Peter said while Jonathan waited for him to do a search on the internet. “Well this is ironic,” he said.

“What is it?” he asked.

“The symbol belongs to a secret society called the Shadowgate Society,” Peter explained.

“The Shadowgate Society? Like in Shadowgate? That can’t be just a coincidence,” Jonathan wondered.

“That’s not all. VeriChip is the company that produces the radio frequency identification chip for humans. It received FDA approval in 2004. Wait. This doesn’t sound good.”

“What?”

“There are several conspiracy websites that say that the government has been planning to microchip the population for some time and not just Americans.”

“These crates are being shipped over seas,” Jonathan realized. “Look up The Shadowgate Society on these conspiracy websites. Tell me what you find.”

“Conspiracy theorists say they are linked to VeriChip. It appears they are hell bent on taking over the world by creating a New World Order.”

“Hey, Jackson! You done over there?” Jonathan heard someone from outside yell.

“That's my cue to exit,” he said before he walked out, quietly closing the door just before another goon rounded the corner. Jonathan backed up watching him approach the door.

“Jackson? Where are you?” he called out. As soon as Jonathan approached him, he grabbed him by the neck quickly choking the life out of him.

“Did you hear that? Doyle? Is everything okay?” A third called out. “Randall, you may want to send in the backup. I think we've got problems over here,” I head him say on the radio.

Jonathan then leaped up onto another crate and switched to infrared to see six more soldiers carrying AR-15 assault rifles quickly heading towards the docks. Jonathan zoomed in and switched back to night vision when he caught a glimpse of the patches they were wearing on their sleeves.

“Now it's starting to make sense,” he told Peter.

“Oh my god! They're wearing that same symbol on their uniforms!”

“This is becoming bigger than a simple smuggling operation.”

“Keep yourself cloaked,” Peter suggested.

Suddenly it started to rain which was about to make the battle a lot more interesting.

“Alpha team. Possible hostile in the vicinity. Switch to armor piercing rounds as a precaution,” said one of the soldiers leading the other into the maze of crates.

“Copy that lead,” another said.

Knowing that they would find the bodies, Jonathan decided to leave one of them out in the open as bait to lure the others into a trap.

It worked.

Two of them soon found the body lying dead on the ground.

“This is Alpha 3 and 4. We found a body. It could have been done by Silverwolf. Be advised,” one of the soldiers said.

Jonathan quietly dropped down to the ground and got behind them. Their weapons were at the ready. He knew they couldn't see him but he could tell they were well trained.

He had to act fast before they reacted first. He grabbed the soldier who was closest to him by the throat with his left claw and thrusted into the man’s back with the other. The soldier screamed just as the other one turned around and opened fire leaving bullets in his chest.

“Put him down!” he ordered.

Jonathan threw the dead body towards the other soldier and quickly threw one of his discs at him which went right through his chest. Blood went everywhere.

Two down. Four to go.

“You and that suit seem to be made for each other,” Peter noticed even though he could only see what Jonathan was seeing through his eyes.

The others who heard the gun fire quickly moved in on Jonathan’s position. One turned the corner from behind him firing off several rounds. One of those rounds was unfortunately able to penetrate his right shoulder as he then flew into the air landing several yards away from where they were on top of another crate.

“Damn,” Jonathan cursed out loud as he tried to apply pressure to his wound with his left hand.

“Their weapons aren't as primitive as I first thought,” Peter said.

“No kidding,” he said.

“Spread out and find him! He's here somewhere,” the leader ordered.

“It's time to improvise,” Jonathan said, then formed a sonic grenade in his hand. It was silver just like the suit but round. When thrown and timed right it would release a sonic burst of energy.

“You're injured,” Peter said.

“I'm not leaving here just yet,” Jonathan said as he stared at the remaining soldiers who were panning out searching the nearby area. Jonathan quietly flew into the air hovering dead center in the spot between all the soldiers and dropped the grenade. It quickly exploded after hitting the ground, causing the soldiers to cover their ears but not affecting mine thanks to the suit’s protection.

He landed before running up to the soldiers taking them out one at a time with either their own weapons by disarming them or using his throwing discs.

A few minutes later the rain stopped. It took a few moments for Jonathan to breathe normal again and control the pain in his shoulder.

Then he felt a surge of electricity course through his body again. This time it felt more intense. Jonathan screamed in agony while he struggled to focus on his surroundings. The pain was so great that he was losing all connections with Peter while the systems controlling the suit were shutting down.

“John! Can... hear me? Jo...” was all Jonathan managed to hear from his friend.

Suddenly he felt something sharp hit him in the back near his spine. Then everything went dark.

Chapter 22

Panic. Concern. Fear.

Those were all the emotions Sarah was feeling as she watched the monitor she and Peter were looking at while Jonathan was still down at the docks. This isn’t what she had hoped for.

“What happened?” she asked Peter trying to remain calm while she looked over his shoulder.

“I'm not exactly sure, Sarah,” Peter said as he typed in some commands on his keyboard. The monitor in front of him showed the words 'Connection Lost' and the video showing us what Jonathan was seeing had gone offline.

“Well, is he okay at least?” she asked. My heart was racing.

“I've lost all communication with the suit. Whatever happened, I have no way of talking to him or tracking him at this point,” said Peter.

“Well, we've got to try something,” she said.

“I'm open to suggestions,” said Peter.

She turned around to face Justin who was standing behind them. “Can you run out to the docks and see if he's still there?”

“Sure,” Justin said before taking off out of the building within a blink of an eye.

“This is bad. If Jonathan has lost consciousness somehow the suit will deactivate leaving him and the suit vulnerable,” said Peter.

“I thought you said only he could wear the suit?” she asked.

“Yes, but someone could use the nanites and reprogram them to create their suit if they know what they're doing,” said Peter.

“What are the chances of that?” she asked.

“I honestly don't know. It depends on how far your scientists have come in understanding nanotechnology,” Peter said.

A moment later Justin returned. “He's not there and neither are the dead bodies.”

“Crap. They cleaned up the area quickly,” Peter sighed.

“You know how to get in touch with Colonel Caldwell. Right?” she asked Justin.

“Yeah,” he answered.

“If Jonathan has been captured than Caldwell might be able to find him for us,” she said.

“It's a long shot, Sarah,” said Peter.

“It may be our only shot no matter how dangerous it is,” Sarah said.

“This is why I can’t let you go, Sarah. I’ll go. I know him,” Justin told her.

“That’s sweet of you Justin but I am a big girl. I know how to take care of myself. Besides, I refuse to sit around waiting for something to happen. I’m going to meet him some place safe and you’re going to get in touch with him to arrange the meeting. Got it?” Sarah demanded.

“Alright but I’m going to keep an eye on you in case something goes wrong,” said Justin.

“Deal,” she agreed.

***

It was cold.

Standing on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial
in Washington didn't make Sarah any warmer while she waited as patiently as she could for Colonel Caldwell. She just hoped he’d recognize her. They had never met before but Justin gave him her description on the phone.
