Chapter Four

Dr. Ronson looks at us for a few seconds and then
continues.  “A molar pregnancy is a false pregnancy that triggers the symptoms
of pregnancy.”

Gosh, that sounds awful.

“And about one out of fifteen hundred women with early
pregnancy symptoms has a molar pregnancy.”

I’m not good at math.  And I know almost nothing about
medicine.  But I know that’s pretty significant.

“I highly doubt that this is your situation but I want to be
one hundred percent sure.”  She stops for a moment and then asks, “Stella, do
you have a history of miscarriage?”

I blush all over.

“This is her first pregnancy, doc.” Colton pipes up.

“Good.  Do you have bleeding from the vagina?”

My heart sinks.  I did bleed.  That was why I came to see
the doctor.  “Remember last time?” I murmur.

Her eyebrow rises a tiny bit for a short moment. Then she
smiles, “You’re right.  Stella.  You did mention that.”

Oops!  That’s a warning sign.

“Do you have severe nausea and vomiting?”

I almost drop off my chair.  Gosh, I did gag in the waiting
room.  I nod sadly.

“Irregular heartbeat?”  She asks again.

I have to nod again.

“Heavy sweating?”

I nod, trying so hard to hold my tears.

“An uncomfortable feeling in the pelvis?”

Hell. I hate this!  Oh, no, no more silly questions like
this.
I shake my head.

“No?”

I nod.  Gosh, this is real torture.

COLTON

I stare at the doctor.  Her smile is evil.  What the fuck is
she doing?  We want an answer. we don’t want the fucking questions that raise
more concerns.

It feels like forever.  The doctor is writing down something
real quick.  Finally she raises her head and smiles to Stella, “Well,
unfortunately, you have all the symptoms.  But the good news is that these
symptoms can also occur with a normal pregnancy, a multiple pregnancy, or a
miscarriage.”

FUCK! I grind my teeth, trying so hard to hold my fist from
landing on her ugly nose.

“As I said,” she gives us one more evil smile.  “I don’t
think you have a molar pregnancy.  But let’s wait ‘til you go through the ultrasonic
testing.  Make sure you eat well and rest well.  Oh, yeah, listen to soft
music, and think about pretty things.”

Yeah, right, you fucking asshole.  Without you,
everything is way prettier.

“I told you that’s a shitty doctor.” I turn back to stare at
the clinic.

“Oh, please, Colton, let’s keep the useful information and
ignore the rest.” Stella’s pale smile is so weak.

I help her get onto the car.  “It was all garbage.  There
was absolutely nothing useful.”

“Let’s be positive.” She drops on the seat and closes her
eyes.

I buckle her up and start the car engine, saying nothing.

Seriously, we need to find a new doctor.

Now I have more than the ultrasound to worry about.   Rumor
has it that some assholes in a weird committee are going through an
investigation on Stella.  They also talked to the higher ups in our college to
start an investigation on me.  What the fuck is going on?

Rumor also has it that an investigation on Kappa Alpha and
Tau Phi is under way, with some government dudes involved.

Stella and I are no longer involved in the sorority or frat
shit.  I don’t fucking care what’s going to happen with the fucking
associations.  They can shut them down.  Or drag those guys out and shoot them
on spot.

I’m sure some assholes in those stupid associations have
bad-mouthed our relationship to the fucking authority.  Shooting them is
justice realized.

“Hey, dude, how are things?” I don’t have to turn back.
That thick voice tells me that it’s ‘Hagan the Warrior’, the miserable loser who
lost to me for the blind date with Stella.

“Fine.”  I keep walking.

“Wait a minute, dude.  Let’s talk.” He rushes over, walking
by my side.

“What the fuck do you want?” I stare at him.  We haven’t
talked for a long time.  After losing the game, he’s been avoiding me as much as
he could.

“Be chill, dude.  Look, we want to talk with you.”

“Who the fuck are ‘we’?  You and the frat assholes?”

“Oh, c’mon, Colton, you’re part of the frat family, okay?”

Was.
” I stare at him, walking faster.

“Whatever.  But we want to know what’s going on with you and
the hot chick.”

“That’s none of your business.”  I stop, staring hard into
his eyes.

“Unfortunately, it
is
.  Did you happen to know
that an investigation is going on about you and that chick?”

“Fuck you!  One more ‘chick’ out of your fucking mouth and I’ll
send you to your dentist.” My finger is only a half inch from his nose.

“Fucking Jesus, don’t go crazy.”  He steps back.  “Your
girlfriend, okay?”

“I don’t fucking care about the investigation.  And I have
nothing to do with that stupid frat. It’s
over
.”  I begin walking.

“That’s not true.”  He catches up with my steps.  “Because
of you and that chi… um, your girlfriend, we’re in big shit.”

“Yeah, tell me.” I don’t bother hiding my sarcasm.

“Guess what?  Based on my personal investigation, you and
your girlfriend are actually stepsiblings.  And it’s that relationship that’s giving
us all the grief.”

“Fucking asshole.” I stop and stare at him.  “Did you bad-mouth
our relationship?”

“So it’s true, huh?” His smile is dirty and evil.  “Fucking
your stepsister.  Oh, wow—”

I send my fist lightening fast into that ugly pumpkin face.
“Nice shot,” he steps back, tossing his head.

This fat ass knows how to fight. But I’m faster.  I give him
a cold smirk, swinging my leg.  His butt lands on the ground.  “Fuck you,
Colton.”  He howls.

Then he covers his bleeding mouth right away.  I’m sure he
will have to worry about the dental bill soon.

“Get up, fight like a man.” I grin at him, rubbing my sore
fist.

He struggles a few times to wiggle his body away.  “Wait
‘til next time.” He gasps.

“Shut up or lose all your fucking teeth.”  I send one more
kick into his ugly body and walk away.

Chapter Five

STELLA

I have a hard time putting on my bra.  My blouse and jeans
are too tight as well.  Gosh, Have I gained some serious weight?

Well, that’s not a question actually.  I don’t know why, but
after visiting the doctor, my food craving is
back
, but even more severe
than before.

I may have a twin.
Oh boy, they need more food for
sure.  I keep eating and eating.  I still feel dizzy, but it’s not from the
morning sickness, but from over eating.  Um, well, let’s say…
proper
eating.  Eating leads to sleeping, and that leads to a couple more pounds.

Um, okay, I confess
quite a few
pounds.

I’m not sure if I’m going to have girls or boys.  The blood
test doesn’t tell us.  We try to find out but the answer is always that it’s
illegal for them to tell us the baby genders.

Ideally, we will have one girl and one boy.  I’m sure they
will get along well.  The boy will be able to protect his sister.  Hmmm, that’s
nice, isn’t it?

My immediate concern is not to find out the baby genders.
Instead, I need to find comfortable clothes.  Bigger, comfy, and… pretty.
Yeah, people always say that their baby is their everything.  But I’m also a
college student.  I want to look good.

Gosh, new clothes are so expensive.  I had to stop working
part time.  Colton has two jobs.  He is always exhausted.  But we can barely
make ends meet.  The tuition and doctor’s visits are so expensive.

We will have to save some money for the new babies.  I
checked out a few baby things online.  They’re so insanely expensive.

I’m thinking about used cloths.  Garage sale is one possible
source.  Online stores are the other.  There are dedicated online stores for
used maternity clothes.  The prices are a bit higher, but they look so much
nicer.

My cellphone rings.  I look at the number. It’s from Mom.
We chat about once a week, just to keep in touch.  Today is one of those days.

“Hi, Mom.”  I flop onto a pillow because I know it’s going
to take a while.

“Hey, Stella, how’s everything?”

“Okay, Mom.  As usual, I’m super busy.   How are you guys?”

“We are doing fine, as always.”

We chat for a few minutes.  Then Mom says, “Honey, I have a
surprise for you.”

“Really?  What’s that?”

“See, Colton’s dad and I are taking a vacation.  So we
figured why not come to see you guys.”

Holy Christ!  I’m totally shocked.  They will find out I’m
pregnant.  And my boyfriend is my stepbrother,
her stepson
, Colton.

I’m not sure what she’s going to say.  But I’m sure that it won’t
be pretty.  As for Colton’s Dad, as Colton said, he is going to kill us.  I’m
sure he will do that.

“Oh, no…” I try to lower my moan.

“What did you say?” Mom asks.

“Ah… yeah.  I mean, you guys are totally welcome.”

“That’s great.  The same address, right?” Mom sounds so happy.

Gosh, we are dead meat for sure.  Colton has lied once to
his dad about the returned mail package.  And it was me who gave Colton the
idea to forward the mails to our new address.

The moment Mom discovers that we have lied on them, she will
be very, very angry.   And when my mom is angry… Well, it’s better we stay away
from her.  Unfortunately, she is paying a visit to us.  There is no way we can
back out.  We are doomed this time.

So fucking doomed.

I have to think fast.  Finally, I come up with an idea.
“Yup, the same address.  No point in moving, right?  How about we come to see
you guys at the hotel?  It’s more fun, isn’t it?”

“That’s very kind of you, Stella.  Since we’ve got the car
with us, we may as well come to see you guys.”

I’m now panicking.  Lord, please help!  I need to come up
with a solution quickly.  But my brain is not functioning at all. Horrible scenes
flash through my head one after another.  I can see Mom yelling and screaming;
Colton being beaten up by his dad.

“Um, I got an idea.” Mom says.  “Why don’t we do lunch
tomorrow?  Let’s say… twelve thirty?”

“Oh, Mom, that’s a brilliant idea.”  I beam.  Thank god!

“So, where do you guys want to go?  What do you like to
eat?”

“Hmmm…” I begin to think, my mouth watering so much I’m almost
drooling.  Oh boy, food, so yummy.  “Oh, yeah, Mom, how about KFC?”
Oops.

“Stella, you serious?  I thought you told me you never touch
KFC. That’s your rule number one, isn’t it?”

“Um… yeah, Mom, you’re so right.  But I was thinking of a
change.   I’m sure Colton and his dad will like it.”

“That’s not a good change.  But honestly, Stella, I loved
KFC and McDonalds when I was pregnant with you.”

What?  My heart sinks.  I didn’t realize that but recently I
have been eating junk food way more often.  “Really?”

“Yup.  I think your body needs a lot more nutrition when you
get pregnant. That’s when the weird cravings hit.”

Mom’s laughing now at the memory, but I’m not. Oh, boy, I
wish I could order some KFC right away.

“Mom, you’re so right.  I swear that’s exactly…” Oops.  I’m
so lucky that I realized my mistake just in time.

Mom waits for a few moments and then says, “Yeah, go ahead.”

“Exactly… um… Oh, right, exactly what I read on the
Internet.”

Mom laughs.  “They did add some weight on my body.”

I look down
.
Yeah, they have added more than ‘some
weight’ on me.  But still, I want it.  “So… KFC, done deal?” I smile.

“Oh, no.  I’m on a yoga course and I don’t want my money
wasted.”  She’s so right.  If you want to keep your body in shape, you will
have to stay away from KFC.

“Okay…” I think hard. Finally, I smile, “How about we go to
the same place?”

“You mean… the Italian restaurant?”

“Yep.” I think for a few moments and then add, “Sapori
Scarola on Leavitt street.”

“Sure.  We’ll come and pick you guys up at twelve fifteen
then?”

Oh no!
I moan loud in my mind.  “Mom, Colton and I
are going to do some shopping tomorrow anyway.  So, we may as well get there by
ourselves.”

“Great.  I’m glad you guys are getting along so well.  See
you then.”

“See you, Mom.” I smile and hang up.

Shit, what am I going to do now?  Mom is going to find out
that I’m pregnant the moment she sees me.  My boobs are much bigger.  My
cleavage is deeper than any C cup girl’s.  My belly looks like I’ve had a huge breakfast.
There is no way I can hide all these changes.

I rush to the closet, pulling my clothes out, one after
another.  Soon, there are all on the floor.   Yes, they are sexy, see-through
this and that, but none of them can cover up my body.

This is so frustrating.

My next option is to buy some new clothes, in loose and
comfy styles.  But they can’t be too loose and too comfy.  Else, Mom will tell
right away.

Yeah, there are all kinds of stores in town.  Plus-sized or maternity
clothing.   And the prices are reasonable.  But adding them together, the total
cost is going to be high.

Also, I’m running out of time.   Should I go shopping right
now?  Or wait ‘til Colton is back?

What am I going to do now?
