Chapter
Six

He let two days pass before he showed
up at her sister’s house again. She came to the door in a pretty pink dress and
yawned. He’d woken her up from a nap.

“Sorry, I awoke you,” he said
and smiled at her. She stood on the other side of the screen not really wanting
to let him in. He could sense she didn’t want to, but he wasn’t sure why.

“If I let you in, it might be
against my sister’s wishes. She’s not here right now, and despite your strange
jokes, I am attracted to you.

wasn’t really sure what she was talking about. The fact that she was attracted
to him clouded that from his mind. “I’ll hear her before she pulls in the
driveway, if you are thinking of getting indecent with me. I’ll warn you in
plenty of time.” He wiggled his brows.

“Right, heightened senses and
all.” She smiled and pushed the screen open, allowing him to move close to her.
He was used to taking what he wanted, but he hesitated, waiting to see if she
truly wanted him to. Emma put a hand on his chest and it was the only
permission he needed. He claimed her mouth and tangled his hands in her dark
luscious hair as he pushed them into the house.

“Lex,” she said between kisses,
“what are you doing?” She laughed as she asked and he knew she had a good idea.
Emma pulled him down to the couch and he continued to kiss her, letting his
tongue caress hers and shifting his weight on top of her. There was no doubt

“Emma, I want you.” His words

grew fur followed by the rest of him. When he opened his mouth his teeth
stretched in his mouth. Finally, he was a full lion standing proud in front of
her.

She fainted.

Chapter
Seven

Emma’s eye lashes fluttered
open after about a minute and she sat up to realize she was in Lex’s arms on
the floor of her living room. She tried to sit up quickly and put a hand to her
forehead. When she remembered what made her faint, she pushed him away from
her.

“Nope,” she moved out of his
lap and scrambled across the floor. “You need to get away from me. I can’t
handle this right now. How did you even… no, I don’t want to know,” she stammered
while quickly putting her dress back on

“Please don’t be frightened of
me Emma. I just wanted to make sure you knew what you were getting into.”

“You could have told me before
I slept with you that you were a different species.” She was wedged tightly in
the corner of the room and fear dampened her beautiful features. He felt sad,
angry, and full of pride. If she couldn’t accept him the way he was, then he
would simply forget about her. Something wouldn’t let him leave though, and he
found himself moving towards her even as she trembled in the corner.

“I did tell you what I was.
Remember Emma, I was very clear and up front with you. This is something that
exists and you’re going to have to accept it. I want to be with you, and I want
you to be part of my pride. I think I can offer you so much. What do you have
to go back to that I can’t provide for you, think about it?”

She bristled, “Plenty, I’m a
vet, I have my sister here, and, and..”

“You can also have me Emma. I
can fill the void in your life, in your heart.”

He reached out to touch her
face and she recoiled sealing her feelings about it for him. Instead of trying
to convince her any further, he decided the best thing to do would be to leave.
Walking out the front door, he felt conflicted. Was there any way he could
change her mind?

He hadn’t moved too far away
from her home when he felt the hair on the back of his neck stand on end. An
ache in his gut had him turning back around and racing to her sisters. He could
hear voices inside.

“You think you’re so special
because he wants you. You’re nothing to him. You’re just a little human
plaything.” He looked in the window to see that Lissel had Emma tied to a chair
in the living room. She must have followed him to determine why he had rejected
her. This was not a good situation.

“I don’t know who you are, you
crazy bitch, but when I get out of this chair, I’m going to screw up that ugly
face of yours.”

Lissel smiled at Emma and
dropped to all fours. Her body shook as her face elongated and her limbs shorted,
she shifted into her lion and growled loudly. Emma tried to put on a brave
face, but he could tell she was completely terrified. The lioness moved forward
and scratched her by swatting at her face. He could see through the window and
knew he needed to move quickly. His lioness would kill and eat his sweet Emma,
and no one would know what happened. He pushed through the door and shifted as
he made his way towards Lissel.

His growl took her by surprise
as his lioness had not expected him to come back. He took her down with one
large massive paw to the side of the head. She fell and he moved on top of her,
growling into her face, allowing his nails to press into her flesh. He pushed
into her showing her he would kill her if she continued to fight with him. Lex
didn’t want to kill his little lioness but she was trying to hurt the woman who
was quickly becoming the only object of his affection. Growling right back at
him, she submitted and he moved away from her.

She shifted back into her human
form and he followed suit.

“Lex, she’s a human,” she cried
not looking at him, “Why would you turn me down for a human? You know you are
meant to be with your lionesses.”

“Lissel, you know you can’t
tell me what to do or who to be with. I am banishing you from the pride for
this.”

“You can’t,” her hand flew to
her mouth and she started to tremble.

“I can and I am Lissel, leave
or I’ll kill you.”

His voice was so commanding she
believed him and ran out the door. Moving towards Emma, he touched the side of
her face. She quietly cried and he bent in to kiss her tears. She didn’t pull
away from him.

“I’m so sorry Emma. I didn’t
know she was going to do that. She will no longer be allowed in my home.”

“Your lionesses are your
concubines?”

“No, not particularly.”

“I don’t understand your
lifestyle at all,” she rubbed her wrists where she’d been tied up.

“I want you to be a part of our
pride and come live with me.”

“As a lion?”

“No, it’s a gene you are born
with. Our children will be lions but you will never be.”

“Our children,” she stood and
walked across the room. “You are getting way ahead of yourself buddy. Lex, we
barely know each other. This is too crazy for me. I was almost eaten by your
girlfriend.”

“She is not my girlfriend. That
is not the way it works in the pride. I can teach you. If you want to be my
only lioness, then you can.”

“I’m not a lion Lex. I’m not
like you.”

“You can be so much to me and
you don’t even know it.” He pulled her into his arms and kissed her
passionately, putting all he had into it.

“Let’s just take it slow for
now Lex. I have to process this for a bit. It’s not every day you find out
people can turn into animals and it makes me question everything. You have to
understand my world was just rocked.”

“So, we’ll take it really slow,
slower than a gazelle.” He grinned and kissed her again, determined to make her
his.

Chapter
Eight

One year later…

“Are you all set sweetheart?”
He helped Emma out of the house as she clutched his newborn son close to her
chest.

“I’m ready darling. He’s
sleeping soundly.” She whispered and moved the blanket from their little cub’s
head. The pride stood right inside the door and prepared to see them off on
their baby moon. Eli came to look at the little man who had been named after
him. He cooed at the child and it made Lex’s heart swell with pride. He was
happy he had such a wonderful family around him and his child.

She had grown so much during
their time together, and shortly after they became serious, she’d found herself
with child which changed her whole attitude. As soon as little Eli started to
form in her belly, she wanted to know all about the pride and the politics of
the lions. She’d moved in as head lioness and had kept the other women away
from him. Emma was adamant that he was hers. His little love could be more
vicious than any lioness when she felt that her territory was being invaded.

He had changed as well, and no
longer allowed anyone but his Emma to share his bed. She didn’t mind if he
doted and treated the lionesses well, but she did mind if they tried to share
his bed. It was the best feeling to be able to love his woman and rule over his
pride. It gave him pleasure to know that the two worlds had successfully
collided, and he considered himself very lucky. If his father had been alive,
he hoped he would love Emma as much as he did and it wouldn’t matter that he’d
changed the role of the alpha ruler. He hoped it would continue with his son
and any they would have after him. It was a new dawn for the pride and he
couldn’t be happier that everyone agreed.

 He couldn’t believe the
difference in the way she was, and now, they were going to get married. Her
attitude towards the pride and the lionesses had changed since he asked her.
She had almost become motherly to all of them and wanted to take care of them
as much as he did. It was a good match and Emma was his other half in every
way. She might as well have been a lion as well as she fit in.

It was hard to be anything but
insanely happy as he watched her tell all the men and women in the house goodbye.

She stopped in front of Lissel,
who doted over the baby and kissed her cheek. Once Emma had insisted he let the
banished lioness come back, the two of them had mended their differences. They
were able to become friends and have a mutual respect for each other.

Everything was how it should
be. Liona walked up and kissed the baby and then Emma before moving in front of
him. “I will take good care of the pride while you enjoy each other my King.”

“I have no doubt you will.”

Emma and Lex loaded their sweet
newborn into the back of his car and headed to their little beach retreat. They
had a whirlwind romance and a quick pregnancy. Their ceremony would be between
the two of them and the only one present would be the minister they found when
they reached their destination. The two would live lion and lady for many years
in bliss together.
