My Bad Boy's Secret: A Bad Boy Billionaire Romance (38 page)

I missed. I couldn’t stop now. I steadied my aim again, and tried firing a second time. No luck. I had to keep trying. Out of all the bad ideas on hand, this was my best bad idea. I adjusted my aim each time, counting off the number of bullets I had left.

I was ready to reload right after pulling the trigger for the eighth time when the tank burst into a fireball, blowing out metal and the men inside it. My shot finally hit the target and took the tank out of action. I didn’t have time to react, because I suddenly felt my torso constricted and my hair pulled violently back. After focusing all my effort on destroying the tank, someone snuck up behind me. I was an idiot.

I felt a click and the feel of hot metal press against my neck, along with heavy breathing. “Don’t try anything, bitch. Just let me do all the work,” the stranger said in a sick and gruff voice. He had a hearty handful of my right breast, and his other hand was feeling my groin. I tried kicking and punching, but it was too tight.

I looked around and saw that the explosion decimated the cars around it. People were panicking and fleeing. I saw some of them collapse after being shot. Then I felt a sharp breeze whiz by my left ear, and some hot liquid splatter onto my face and neck. The weight slipped off me, and I was free again. Stretching out my arms, I turned and saw the man threatening to rape me slumped on the ground, his eyes glazing over and final breath seeping out of his mouth. His eyes were wide and a wide bloody hole gave me a view of his hot and mushy brain.

I felt a hand on my right shoulder. “Are you all right?” I turned to look at McKenna. The expression on her face was new and totally different from any face she had ever made in all the time I was with her. It had kindness and concern on it. She touched me gently and spoke in a worried voice.

I felt her wipe the blood off me with a cloth, and she pulled me up to steady me before I fell over.

“I’m all right,” I said shakily.

She scoffed. “No you’re not. Here, let me help you back to the plane. I think we’re done here for today. There’ll be no deal. The ones who aren’t already dead are retreating. We need to go back and recover.”

We hobbled back to the plane and took off. After the adrenaline left my system, I faced McKenna and forced myself to smile in thanks. “Thank you, for, you know, what you did back there. I appreciate it.”

She wanted to smile back and look more responsive, but she kept her expression stolid. “It was nothing. I just had to aim and shoot his head instead of yours. Jake wouldn’t be happy if I let anything bad happen to you. We girls have to watch out for each other.”

“Well, I know we got off on a really wrong foot, but I am truly thankful,” I said.

She tightened her fists into balls and looked away from me. “No one deserves to have that happen to them. I won’t let that happen to any woman – even to you.”

I felt that we reached some sort of new stage. We at least didn’t want to kill each other. We helped each other survive back there against the mercenaries.

“And Ada,” continued McKenna, using my name for the first time instead of an insult, “call me by my name. Addy.”

As dangerous as that fight was, I started to replay it in my head. Like a good memory I didn’t want to lose, it was the only thing I could think of as we flew back to the ship. It was actually, dare I say it, fun. Working with these criminals was actually enjoyable. I didn’t know whether to be scared or delighted.

Chapter 9 – Sabina

I was thankful that I made the call to the federal government and they prepared that shipment of drugs for us. They had a surplus they acquired from drug busts, and I knew that Jake would like it and want it. What I didn’t count on was planes trying to kill us with missiles.

Our plane was battered and smoke was billowing from the engines, but somehow we didn’t crash. Instead, we made a landing on the ship, which thankfully moved closer to us to make landing easier, or else we may not have succeeded. After about four more hours, the plane that carried McKenna and Ada flew back and landed as well. It wasn’t as damaged as ours, but the erratic movement told me that something went wrong.

I knew for certain that something was very wrong when McKenna and Ada emerged and I saw their faces. They barely had the energy to walk, and looked ready to put the whole day behind them. Jake asked McKenna what was wrong, but she gave only brief replies. I guessed that they would talk more when we were no longer around them.

Dinner was unusually quiet and solemn. We ate our lobster and steak mechanically. All of us looked beaten up. I never saw Jake this quiet and pessimistic. His head was bowed down, and he didn’t even seem to be enjoying the food.

When we were finished eating, Jake leaned back into his chair and sighed heavily.

“I don’t need to ask to see that you two had a bad day as well,” he addressed McKenna and Ada. “Sabina and I at least scored some high-quality drugs for a dirt cheap price, but on the way, we were attacked. We were lucky to get back alive.”

“But this has been going on for far too long. We’ve had to deal with these ambushes for months. Someone in our circle is probably onto us. We’ll have to lay low for a while. Then we can look into who is plotting against us.”

He walked away with McKenna. Ada and I left immediately and found an empty lounge to compare notes.

“I had to shoot a tank today. And then I was almost raped. Can’t believe I’m saying this, but I owe McKenna my life. She shot the guy and freed me,” said Ada. “I’m going to be having nightmares about this for a week.”

“You think you’ve got it bad?” I retorted. “We had missiles aiming for our plane. We were almost fried.”

“I guess this is a typical day in the Crew,” sighed Ada. “We better get used to risking our lives. We’re going to be shooting, fighting, and killing a hell of a lot.” She scanned me and raised her right eyebrow. “Have you gained weight? I don’t remember ever seeing you this fat.”

I looked down and checked myself. Ever since my vomiting episode on the plane convinced me that I was going to die, I was scared to see what else was happening to me. I surprised myself by having an appetite at dinner. My stomach was bulging out and was very round. It was always perfectly flat. Even my breasts were fatter and more prominent. I felt my butt, and saw that it was cushier and more sensitive. What the hell was going on?

“You look like you’re…pregnant!” exclaimed Ada.

“Yeah, you’re right, but why? I’m not pregnant! I can’t be!” I insisted.

“But what about with Jake?” suggested Ada.

“That was just one time, and last night? How could I get knocked up this fast?”

This made no sense. Yes, I just had sex, and without protection, but I knew how pregnancy worked. This wasn’t right. No one got the signs of pregnancy this quickly. No one knew that they were pregnant this soon. It took at least a few weeks and a pregnancy test. But the signs were pretty unambiguous and unmistakable. The bigger boobs, fatter weight, constant and lingering feeling of being bloated and nauseous wouldn’t go away.

Was that one time last night with Jake responsible for all this? Did that one round make me pregnant? I wasn’t naïve. I knew that you could get pregnant from just one time with one guy. But I still couldn’t believe it.

The door opened, and I tried not to groan. It was McKenna. She glared silently at us.

“What’s going on? Why all the secrecy and locked doors?” she demanded.

“Nothing,” I rolled my eyes. She got even angrier.

“Don’t think you can get away with lying to me, slut. I can still get rid of you in an instant and no one would care. Though,” she said as she looked at Ada, “at least one of you isn’t totally dead weight. I like your new look, girl, it suits you,” she sneered.

As much as I wanted to throttle her, I knew that I’d be dead even sooner if I did. Seeing that she couldn’t get anything out of us, McKenna turned to leave.

“I’m retiring for tonight,” she announced loftily. “Ada, you’re to keep watch first. Then that friend you always drag along. I’ll be up to check on you.” I knew that she meant it; she never made any empty threats. She exited.

Chapter 10 – McKenna

Weird, the hallway usually was lit. Why was it totally black now? I turned on my flashlight and gripped my mini-pistol. For all I knew, there could be hijackers or soldiers invading us, and I had to fight. And what would Jake be doing?

Thinking about Jake made me almost lose control of myself. I mentally prepared myself for the worst. I tiptoed cautiously, keeping the beam of light ahead of my path. So far, nothing came up. I saw the door to our bedchamber was slightly ajar. I tapped it open, and stepped in boldly with my gun and flashlight pointed. If anyone showed themselves, I was ready to shoot and kill them.

Instead, all the lights in the room came on, which shocked my eyes. What I saw when my eyes adjusted was even more amazing. Flowers of dozen of breeds were strung over the room, crawling on the walls and floor. Petals lay scattered on the bed and floor. The temperature was warm inviting, and immediately relaxed me. I could hear music playing ever so softly. I strained my ears and recognized it as the Spring concerto of Vivaldi’s
Four Seasons
. It was my favorite of the four concertos.

I suddenly couldn’t move my arms. Someone had grabbed me by my stomach and put another arm on my forearms. It took me only a moment to know who it was.

“Bursting in here with a gun like you’re about to assassinate someone? What are you thinking? I know I taught you better than that,” Jake breathed smoothly into my right ear. He wasted no time kissing my face and neck, melting me in his embrace. I moaned softly and savored the pleasure. I dropped my gun and flashlight effortlessly. Jake moved his left arm up to fondle my breasts and throat, spending time lingering on my skin to render me even weaker. His lips continued to assault and explore me.

I turned and put a finger under Jake’s ruggedly stubbled chin. “You have no idea how much you scared me, turning the lights off and making everything so quiet,” I lightly scolded him. “I could’ve hurt someone, and the blame would be on you.”

I wasn’t expecting Jake to pick me up and carry me by my back and legs, and then toss me onto bed. I squealed and screamed with excitement and delight. No one, not even me, knew what Jake ever had planned. He climbed on top of me and made out with me. We helped each other out of our clothes and made love. This time, we went at a slower pace than most other nights. We took things slowly and explored each other’s bodies for hours. It was an opportunity to become more familiar with each other and relax.

When I woke up, Jake had just come out of sleep as well. He was yawning and stretching out, and the contented smile he had told me that he was still enjoying the love we made. We were both completely naked, with only our bodies and blankets keeping heat between us. The touch of our skin rubbing and mingling with each other was comforting and preserved the lingering passion that had peaked and was now gently fading.

I stayed quiet and stretched, looking around our refuge. During these rare times, I succeeded in feeling fully at ease, temporarily encased in the delusion that everything was right in the world and that nothing wrong could happen. Our bedroom was a cocoon that I wished we could remain in forever. Inevitably, however, we would have to leave and resume living in the imperfect place called the real world. I sighed ever so softly at that thought.

A buzzing noise came from the adjacent bathroom. I recognized it as the sound of the alarm clock reminding me that I needed to take my daily vitamins. Jake sometimes scolded me about adhering to the schedule so rigorously, but I ignored him on this occasion. Receiving a consistent intake of nutrients was important to me; it was what kept me so vigorous and beautiful and helped me run my life so successfully. I got out of bed to swallow the pill.
