Love In a Small Town (22 page)

"You're not going to do this to me again," she wailed. "I need you inside me, now, David."

He was so wild to possess her; the thought of her pregnant only increased his lust, but he couldn't take the chance. In seconds, he had the condom on and was ready. Out of control, he lifted her, sat her on the edge of the kitchen table, and plunged into her, the force of it making him grunt, and cry out. "Yes, oh God, yes. So much of you."

She wrapped her legs around his waist, pulling at him hard, so he couldn't move as she writhed against him.

"Lynn, honey. Slow down. I can't hold back. And I want to be sure you're with me. I want you to enjoy this, too."

"I don't care," she cried, holding him tighter. "I want all of you, David."

He lost it then, coming with a force that shook him, while her insides milked him greedily, and she screamed her release. On and on, he thrust into her, while he felt hot fluid from her body bathing him. Dimly, in the throes of the most intense passion he had ever felt or imagined, he was aware of what was happening.

He thought it was only a myth, but apparently there was truth to the story. Women did have wild, wet orgasms when they were loved in a certain way.

He held her, rocking her, crooning, "I love you, I love you," while she convulsed violently, and the storm passed.

The force of it left him weak. His knees collapsed. Cushioning her with his body, he let them both fall to the floor, where they remained, barely conscious, holding onto each other.

His woman. Gratification roared through him while she lay limp in his arms, whimpering in the aftermath of her intense release. Moving her legs tentatively, she made small noises of distress. There was wetness all around them—on her legs, and his—and an inordinately large puddle of wetness under them. He realized the puddle was Lynn's.

Smug with delight, he watched her as her mind cleared. First confusion, then wonder flashed on her face.

"What happened? I think I fainted. It was so…it was wonderful, but why is it so wet? Where did all this come from? Ohmigod did I…?"

He started to laugh, reacting to the release of sexual tension, but also mightily pleased with himself and amused at the expression on Lynn's face. "No, you didn't. There's nothing to be upset about."

She appeared distressed. Obviously, she wasn't reassured, but of course, as inexperienced as she was, she had no idea.

"Sweetheart, trust me. It's not what you think."

She eyed him suspiciously. "David, what do you know? What's so funny?"

He hugged her to him. "Honey, it doesn't happen often, but I think we, or I, found your G-spot. It causes a woman to have intense orgasms with a lot of discharge. I'm not laughing at you. I'm laughing because my ego has been given a large boost. Am I not a giant among men?" He added, with a devilish grin, "Do I get a 'Thank you, David?'"

She gave him a disbelieving glance, then looked around, confused. "We're on the kitchen floor."

"Well, there aren't any rules about where this can happen." He couldn't stop laughing. The strain of the last few days, once released, rioted out of control.

She looked at him, doubtfully. "Is that true? There's a G-spot?"

Delighted with her, he kissed her forehead. "I'd say you surely have one."

She giggled, catching his humor.

"What?" He grinned, waiting for the joke.

"A friend once told me that the anticipation of an affair is where the excitement lies. Once you get to the naked elbows and the knobby knees, the charm is gone. She forgot to mention the sticky part."

Startled at her risqué joke, he hugged her, deliberately wiggling her bottom.

"Oh, David. Stop that," she giggled.

He stood and saw a garbage container in the corner and got rid of the used prophylactic. Then he pulled her to her feet, gratified to see her stagger a bit. "I hope there's a shower upstairs with hot water."

She punched him on the arm. "Of course there's a shower. The house may be Victorian, but the owner isn't."

"Thank God for that, or we'd have to elope immediately for Gretna Green, and I don't have a clue where that is."

She beamed at him. "David Martin, you read Victorian romance novels."

"Even a little erotica. How do you think I knew about G-spots?" He sobered. "Are we okay now? I want this difference between us settled. I don't want to repeat the hell I've been through the past few days, worrying about you. I'm in love with you, Lynn, now and forever. I want you to be my wife. Sarah wants you to be her mom. Will you marry me?"

"Oh, yes, David. I love you more than I thought I could ever love a man, and I love Sarah." She laughed. "I even love Logan."

"In that case, we should make plans for Saturday. Sarah's going shopping with some friends and I suggest we go look for a ring and whatever else we might find. I've never been downtown. We'll make a day of it."

"Wonderful. I'll tell Violet. She'll be so thrilled. She thinks you're wonderful, too."

"I'll be by about eleven. We'll have lunch. Okay?"

"Okay."

He saw a calculating look come into her eyes as she said, "Tell me more about this G-spot. Once you've found it, is it easy to find again?"

"It takes endless practice. I'll explain in the shower, and then we'll try again."

"Oh, I do love and admire persistence in a man."

He took her in his arms and kissed her, vowing never to let her go. His mind reeled with what had happened here. Through the years, he had suspected there might be more inside him and more than he knew to the sex act, but he'd never come close to finding out what. He craved the nearness, the casual affection some couples had. He never had it with his previous lovers or saw it with his parents. He'd come close with his marriage, but even there a feeling of completeness was lacking. Perhaps, finally, he'd found it.

Lynn led the way to the shower in the master bath, but paused when David stopped to retrieve some condoms from his jeans.

"Wait."

"What's the matter?" he asked, worried. "You've changed your mind?"

She blushed. "No, it isn't that. It's about," nodding toward his hand, she said, "the condoms. If they're, uh, uncomfortable, or, uh." She couldn't go on with what she felt. Even as easy as she felt with David, this was too new for the words to be there.

David smiled, and kissed her fondly. "What you're trying to say is that if our loving results in a baby you wouldn't mind?"

"Something like that." She peered at him anxiously, then forged on. "I've dreamed of a home and children, though I doubted it would ever happen, and, well. I'm twenty-nine and . . ."

David frowned, teasing. "That old?"

She giggled. It was okay. She could say anything to him. "Well, each baby can take up to a year to happen and ten years is a long time."

"Ten? That many?" He hugged her, and let her bury her face in his shoulder while he explained. "Honey, remember on the way home from the dance? I told you then that what I felt was more than an attraction; that I wanted to be with you, with all the intimacy that entails. I said it again on the boat. We have something special together and the thought of you having my baby makes me crazy with loving you, and I know you love me. I want to marry you. Does that answer your question?"

She smiled at him. "Okay, let's get that shower," she said, and led him to the bathroom.

"Wow," David commented, when he saw the size of the bath. "Was this a custom job?"

"You mean because it's so big and has a tile seat?"

"Well, yeah. This hardly came with a house this old."

"You're right. When I bought this house I decided that, since this was probably the only house I'd ever own, I was going to have it remodeled to my taste. There's never enough room in a woman's shower to take care of all the things you do, like shaving your legs."

"And making love with your man," he added.

"Is that going to happen?" She turned the water on.

"Oh, yeah." He pulled her inside; closed the shower door.

"David." She looked up at him, her arms around his neck. He saw there were tears mixed with the water on her face.

"Honey?"

"I have to say something before this goes further."

His hold tightened. "It's too late to back out. I won't let you."

Pulling away enough to see his expression, she cried, "Never, my love. Never even think it. You're holding in your arms all the love one person can feel for another. I wanted you to know that I trust you."

"Lynn." His lips brushed over hers, seeking their place, conveying emotion that threatened to choke him. The kiss was passionate. He had found the love he'd been seeking his whole life. There wasn't any shame when he felt his tears mingling with hers.

Arriving home several hours later, he found Sarah waiting for him in the living room.

"Well? Did you get it all straightened out?" Apparently she figured out where he'd been.

He laughed. "How did you know Lynn called me and that's where I was?"

"I told Lynn to call you when Logan and I were at the shop this afternoon, and she's smart. I really like her, Dad. It's okay if you two want to live together."

"Live together?" The idea offended him. "Excuse me, my very liberal daughter. I'm a father with responsibilities. I don't have live-in girlfriends. I asked her to marry me and she said yes."

"Oh, Dad. That's wonderful."

"We're going shopping Saturday. We might run into you and the TAMs. I'll feel better when I get a ring on Lynn's finger."

"I don't think I'll be shopping too long. Logan is really upset with me because I'm going with Ashley, Madonna and Tiffany. I'm not going to make a day of it."

"Logan usually knows what he's talking about. Is there any dinner left?"

"Lynn didn't feed you?"

"Uh, our minds weren't on food."

"Okay. Hold on. I'll warm up the casserole." She got up and went to the kitchen, leaving him with a silly grin on his face.

Chapter Twenty-three

"What on earth are you going to do with that? What is it?" Lynn stared wonderingly at the object in David's hand, more than confused by the enthusiasm he displayed for the thing. He held a highly polished, hollow wood pole, about three feet long and six inches wide. It was painted with colorful, primitive designs of birds and animals.

Tourist shopping in Eureka Springs presented a wealth of choices and David had taken to it this sunny Saturday morning like a child in a toy store. In two hours they had managed to visit three stores. She had unleashed a monster. Who knew he had never gone shopping just for the fun of it, not needing anything, just browsing, with enough money to buy whatever struck his fancy?

"I've always wanted one of these. It's an Australian Aborigine musical instrument, a didgeridoo. I've got the David Hudson CD."

"What do you do with it? It's a hollow stick, or log, or whatever."

"You remember the funny drone noise in the music from the Australian Olympics? It was coming from one of these. Played well, you can get a tremendous range of sounds."

"I see." Forever patient, though unconvinced, she waited.

The sales clerk, an anxious young man, sensed an argument. "It's used sometimes as a percussion instrument."

"You're going to learn to play that thing?" Lynn couldn't believe he was serious. But then, this entire day was turning out to be beyond her imagination.

She'd managed to discourage the purchase of matching leather vests with images of motorcycles and
'Orange County Choppers'
hand painted on the backs. The larger-than-life Dr. Seuss hats were a near thing, but when they entered All About Men, where they were now, he'd gone out of control.

Within minutes the counter was over-loaded with a leather briefcase, a canvas Australian Bush Hat with a snakeskin band, leather gloves, a High-Tec, solar powered LED flashlight that never needs batteries, and a hand-held global positioning device. He had spied the thing he held in his hand now when he made a final check to be sure he hadn't missed anything. The didgeridoo was the final item.

"It makes primal sounds. Bedroom sounds," he added, winking at her.

She could feel her face heating. Not more than two hours had passed since he had teased her mercilessly about the sounds she made while he loved her.

When he appeared at her door this morning, ready for shopping, he carried her upstairs to the bedroom, where they made love in ways she hadn't imagined. She could still feel his tongue.

"Hey, sweetheart," his voice whispered in her ear. She came out of her reverie aware that his arm was around her shoulders.

"We can go home right now, if you want." His meaning was clear.

Embarrassed beyond reason, she hissed, "Just buy that thing and let's get out of here."

David handed his credit card to the delighted clerk, and while he waited, he blew into his new instrument, creating weird hiccups and groans—each one louder than the last. The bewildered expression on his face had Lynn in hysterics. He ordered the clerk to add the instructional CD to the shopping bag.

"Come on, mighty hunter," she said, laughing as she led him out the door, after he arranged to come by later to pick up the order. "Let's get you out of here before you decide you need a genuine kangaroo skin loin cloth to go with it."

"Loin cloth?"

"Never mind."

Their intended destination for the day was the custom jewelers up the hill. Many of the weddings performed in Eureka Springs had exquisite rings made by the jeweler who owned the shop.

"I know you'd like plain gold bands," David said to Lynn, as they entered the shop, "but, if you don't mind, I'd like roses engraved on them as a reminder of what made you decide to go out with me."

Lynn sighed. "I do like a man with a romantic soul. I'd love roses."

"And a diamond engagement ring."

"David, that's expensive. I don't need an engagement ring."

"I need a ring. I want one big enough to remind you and every man out there, every day, that you belong to me."

She smiled at him, more in love with him every minute. "Okay, but you pick it out."
