I nod back. “You better not be walking around in jocks or anything in the morning. Got it?”

He roars with laughter.

“Onto it Mischief”

I smile. “I’m happy for you.”

He smiles back “Me too.”

“Well, I am going to wash my eyes out. Night
Daddy, keep it down.”

“Love you kid.”

“Yeah, love you too, you stupid old fool.”

CHAPTER FOURTEEN

I wake up screaming, and this time I am not alone. Travis is shaking me and calling out my name. I tremble and shudder, forcing my eyes open and forcing the memories away. I swallow but my tongue feels like a dry chunk of wood. Travis has his arms around me; I can hear his frantic heartbeat in my ear. He strokes my hair and whispers soothing words into my ear.

“Mischief, it’s ok, it was just a dream.”

“Trav?” I croak.

“I got you, it was just a dream.”

I pull back and blink away the sleep in my eyes. The lamp is on but the light is dull. I look at Travis and run my eyes over his disheveled hair.

“That is
why you don’t sleep at my place?” He whispers.

“I have them
every night Trav; I don’t want to keep you awake.”

God Mischief, you wound me.”

“I care.”

“I care too, shit Mischief, you are having nightmares every night?”

“Since Jeremy shot himself in front of me.”

“Fuck…”

“It’s ok
Trav; I have learnt to live with it.”

“You shouldn’t have to live with it.”

“It’s ok.”

He takes my hand and presses his lips over my palm. Then he rests it against his cheek.

“Lay down.”

I blink a
Moment “Pardon?”

“Lay down.”

I do as he says and he lays down beside me, propped up on his elbow looking down at me. Then, he opens his mouth and he begins singing. I feel my skin breakout in goose bumps and my heart speeds up. His voice soothes me, takes me to a place where nothing matters. It takes me to a place I went so many times as a child, when I was afraid, he was there just like he is now, and he always sang me the same song.

“Don’t cry Mischief.”

“She was awful to me Trav.”

“She isn’t very nice then is she?”

“She is my best friend and she called me a tattle tale and said she wasn’t my friend anymore.”

Travis strokes my hair, he is fifteen and probably has better things to do but he has his arm around me in our
tree house, while I cry about Lillian.

“She was just mad that you told on her.”

“I didn’t want to get into trouble. Chief would have been cranky with me if I lied.”

“She will get over it, I promise.”

“Who will I play with?”

“Me
, of course.”

“You are all grown up now Trav, you don’t want to play with me anymore. You just want to hang around all those girls.”

He laughs.

“I always have time for you
Mischief.”

“Will you sing me a song?”

“Does it make you feel better?”

“Yes.”

“Then of course I will.”

He begins singing a song that he always sings when I am sad, I snuggle closer to him and already, I feel better.

You are my sunshine, my only sunshine,

You make my happy when skies are grey,

You’ll never know dear, how much I love you,

Please don’t take my sunshine away.

~*~*~*~

When I wake in the morning it is dark and Trav is sleeping soundly beside me. I slip out of the bed and pull on my clothes, then lean down to slip on my shoes. I walk downstairs, the house is dead quiet, and everyone is asleep. I step out the front door and breathe in the fresh morning scent. I begin walking down the path when I spot my car, and gasp. It is covered in spray painted words that read “Leave him bitch or die.”

I stare at my poor VW for what seems like hours. I am furious, who the hell does that sort of thing? Honestly? I know exactly who, this Travs
Angel stalker who can’t seem to get the hint that he doesn’t want her. Seriously. I turn on my heel and walk back inside just as Chief is coming down the stairs.

“Mischief, what did I tell you about going out by yourself?”

“Some asshole spray painted my car!” I snap.

“What?”

“Go look.”

He goes outside and comes back a
moment later, shaking his head.

“Someone doesn’t like you and Travis being back together.”

“Someone who leaves fan mail and threatening letters every day, I am going to find this girl and sort her out.”

“Popular girl you are Mischief.”

“Seriously, I came back to get away from this shit. Now I have a mental biker and a psycho fan after me. Honestly!”

“What’s happening?”

I look up and Trav is coming down the stairs, shirtless and looking sleepy.

“Your fan spray painted my car.”

“What?”

“I walked out this morning, and she has spray painted it. It says leave him bitch or die. I told you those notes weren’t
nothing Trav.”

“You fucking serious?
What kind of freak show would do that?”

“Someone who clearly is a little obsessed with you.”

“Clearly.”

“So what do we do?”

“I will go over my phone records at work and security, see if I can find out who this is.”

I sigh and rub my head.

“This is just crazy, all of it.”

“I will sort
Demon, Travis will sort the crazy fan, don’t stress yourself over it.” Chief says.

“Don’t stress, don’t stress?
Seriously.”

“Come on now Mischief, it will be over soon.”

I nod, putting my hands up. I turn and walk out of the room, wondering how the hell I am supposed to not stress about it. I feel nauseous, ugh, I need time out.  I pull out my phone and text Reagan.

Hey girl, h
ow is the moving going?

I got it all done, the apartment is all yours now.

Woooooo!

Right?
How are you feeling?

Trav’s crazy stalker spray painted my car.

What? Are you serious? That crazy knows where you live?

Apparently
so

Creepy c
ome around to the apartment, I will give you your keys.

And sob as I shove you out the door?

I haven’t cried yet, but I think I am going to now…thanks.

See you soon x

Yep, later x

I close my phone and turn, grinning from ear to ear. Travis has just walked in the room behind
me; I leap into his arms with a squeal.

Whoa, what did you do with my cranky girl?”

I laugh. “
Reagan is finally moving out, the apartment is all mine now!”

He huffs.

“Not happy about that Mischief.”

“Aw Trav, you know I am excited.”

“Why won’t you come live with me?”

“You know why.”

“I don’t know why.”

“We need to do this slow
Trav; I don’t want to ruin what we have.”

“Come on Mischief, you know I don’t like it.”

I grin and stroke his face. “You will just have to deal with it Mr. Phoenix.”

He rolls his eyes and tugs my
hand; we walk out of the room and back to his house next door.

“I’ll get your car fixed.”

“That girl scares me Trav; she is clearly on a mission. An ‘eliminate Violet’ mission.”

“She won’t get near
you; I am going to find out who the fucking crazy is and end her.”

“Oh are you now?”

He grins, lifting my hips and depositing me on the kitchen counter.

“I am.”

“Scary rockstar”

He leans in and drags his lips across mine.

“You know it, baby.”

“Don’t
I ever!”

CHAPTER FIFTEEN

“Chief, get your fucking ass out here.”

I hear the voice bellowing from next door, I rush out the front door to see
Demon and his entire gang in Chief’s front yard. My blood runs cold.

“Yo
Demon, looks like the party just got a whole lot better.”

I see them turn to look at me, just as Chief walks outside.

“Mischief, fucking run” He bellows.

I am frozen to the spot, I can’t move.
Three men begin walking over and I run, I bolt down the stairs and towards my car. I am close when one grips my arm; I swing around and scratch his face. He leaps back hissing and swearing at me. I turn again, but the second man catches hold of me. I scream and kick out, connecting with his shins.

“You little fucking bitch.”

“Just get her you no good fuck heads.” Demon bellows.

I kick out again
missing the third man. He holds up a gun and I consider running anyway. I feel my eyes swing towards Chief and I see him standing, surrounded by men. He could die, this could be the last time I ever see him. So, I let the man drag me over and drop me in front of Demon. He grips my arm and shoves me down onto the ground.

“Well well, it’s about time we got you both together. See, we have been waiting too long and I’m quite sick of waiting. I want you dead Chief, and I want your daughter to suffer unimaginably.”

“Let her go.” Chief snarls.

“No, that isn’t going to happen.”

Demon walks over and plants a boot into my ribs, I scream and roll but it doesn’t protect me, he brings a second boot down.

“Fucking stop!”
Chief roars.

“Just one more

He grips me by my hair and lifts me to my
feet; I clench my eyes shut as he drives fist after fist into my face.

“NO!” Chief screams
“Fucking stop.”

“Hurts
don’t it Chief? When someone takes something precious from you.”

“Fuck it
Demon, kill me just don’t hurt her.”

“That won’t be fun, now will it?”

I open my eyes, and my vision is blurry. My head swims as I try to regain my bearings. I can see Demon; he is holding me by my shirt. Chief is being held back by two men, who are both holding guns to his head. Where is Jasmine? Where is Travis? Where are the club members? Demon lifts his gun and presses it to my shoulder.

“Do you think it would hurt, if I shot her here?”

“No!” Chief croaks, his eyes so full of fear it frightens me.

“No? I think you are wrong Chief.”

He pulls the trigger and I feel the bullet tear through my shoulder, nearly the exact same place where Jeremy shot me. I scream so loudly my throat closes in and I gasp for air. Chief is screaming and bellowing, begging for them to kill him to let me go. I crumble to the floor and Demon’s boot presses into my shoulder, shoving me down onto the floor.

“See Chief, I am going to kill you, but you are going to watch her die first. Then I am going to blow your fucking brains out and leave you both to rot on this front lawn but not without a show first.”

I hear another shot, and I see Chief’s body crumble.

Daddy!” I scream hoarsely.

Blood pours from his chest and his head droops

“Please, stop.” I whisper.

“Soon, little Mischief.”

I close my eyes and all I can see is my
Father, in my mind, in my heart. I think about sitting with him last night, laughing and joking. I don’t want to lose him; I don’t want him to die. Why is Demon here today? Why did he have to do this now? We weren’t ready, we weren’t prepared and now I could lose everything.

Demon
crushes his boot harder into my shoulder and I scream again, pain rips through me causing me to gag and shudder violently. Then, I hear bullet after bullet fire off. I cover my face, so sure they have killed my Father, but then I hear a familiar voice.

“Mischief
, stay down!”

I feel the boot on my chest release and
Demon’s body comes crashing down beside mine. Blood pours from his mouth, and half his chest is blown out. I clamp my eyes shut and swallow furiously. Burning pain is shooting through my body. I feel a hand clamp over my arm and I open my eyes to see Chief on his hands and knees. Blood is pouring from his chest and his face is deathly pale.
