Fight With Me (8 page)

“I would enjoy that. Thank you.” I murmur.

I feel him grin against the top of my head and I straighten to look up at him. “Would you like to come to my place Tuesday night for my birthday? We can just stay in, watch a movie, or whatever.”

He frowns and brushes his thumb across my lower lip, sending electricity through me. “You just want to stay in?”

“Yes. I just want to spend it with you. I don’t need anything else.”

Nate leans down and kisses my lips softly, then rests his forehead on my own. “If that’s what you want, baby, that’s fine with me. I’ll bring dinner with me.”

I grin up at him. “Okay.”

“Are you sure you have to go?” he asks again while brushing his fingers through my messy hair.

“I’m sure. But I’ll see you in the morning.” He frowns and looks down at my lips, then back up into my eyes. My breath catches at the vulnerability I see there. “What is it?”

“Work’s just going to be different tomorrow. Thank you for giving me this weekend, Julianne. I’ve wanted it for a long time. I don’t think I want it to end.” I run my fingers down his stubbled cheek.

“Thank you, Nate. For everything. I had a great time.”

I step closer to him, wrapping my arms around his torso and rest my belly against his pelvis. I have to lean my head back to look up into his sober face. He continues to hold my head in those amazing hands, his fingers threaded in my hair. He stares into my eyes for a long time, a wide array of emotions passing over his face, and I’m mesmerized by him.

Finally, I lean in and kiss his chest again and rest my cheek against him, hugging him tight. He wraps his arms around my shoulders and rocks me back and forth, kissing the crown of my head and breathing me in.

“Drive safely on your way home,” he murmurs, making me smile.

“I will.” I pull away and reach out to grab my suitcase, but Nate waves me aside and lifts it himself. He takes my hand in his empty one and we walk through the apartment and down to my car. He stows my bag in the back seat and kisses me chastely.

“Call me when you get home.”

“Okay. See you tomorrow, ace.” I flash him a sassy smile, start my little car, and wave as I pull away.

Traffic is light on this Sunday evening, so it doesn’t take me long to get home. I unpack my suitcase and start a load of laundry and then grab my phone out of my handbag.

There is a text waiting for me.

I had a great time this weekend.

I grin and respond.

Me too.

After a few moments, he responds.

Are you home?

Yes. Home safe. Laundry in. What are you doing?
I walk into the kitchen and grab an apple and a bottle of water and settle on the couch, flipping on the TV to watch one of my reality TV shows.

Just working for a bit.

I smile as I picture him sitting at his desk, all sexy in his t-shirt and jeans. I’d love to distract him while he works. Yes, that makes the to-do list for the not too distant future.

You work too much.
I send the text and watch in fascination as a fight breaks out on my TV between two annoying housewives. I don’t know why I watch this shit. I’d never admit it anyone, and the only reason Natalie knows about my housewives addiction is because she shares it with me.

We will take this secret to our graves.

My phone chirps.
I wouldn’t be working if you were still here.

I grin.
No? What would you be doing if I were there?

He response almost immediately.
Kissing every inch of your amazing body.

Oh my. My face splits into a wide smile and I curl my feet up under me, as I settle in for some sexting with my man.

Only if I can return the favor. I would love to trace your tattoos with my mouth.

I love to trace your pussy with my mouth.

Holy fuck!

Mmm… you’re good with your mouth, ace.

The housewives are still screaming at each other on the TV, so I mute it. My phone chirps.

Come back here, and I’ll show you just how good with my mouth I can be.

Oh, I’m so, so tempted.

I thought you had work to do?

You are always more important than work, baby.

Damn, he can be so sweet.

I don’t really want to sleep without him, with or without the sex, but I need a little distance. This is so new. I don’t want him to burn out on me. And I have to get my head on straight for work tomorrow.

Ditto.
I reply. And then:
Heading to bed early to recover from the amazing sex this weekend, and to dream of you. Will see you in the morning.

Goodnight, beautiful. Sleep well.

But I don’t. I toss and turn most of the night, wishing I were with Nate.

Fuck, I have it bad.

It’s Monday morning. My long five mile run this morning before work did nothing to calm my nerves of going back to work after my amazing weekend with Nate.

I fire up my computer and while it wakes up, I go in search of coffee to try to wake myself up too. I walk into the employee lounge and standing by the coffee makers, pouring himself a cup, is none other than Nate. Fire surges through me, and it’s a shock to see him back in his sharp business suit, hair pulled back, looking all professional and… hot.

I’m thankful that his back is to me so I have a moment to paste on a neutral look on my face and approach him as I would have seventy-two hours ago.

“Good morning,” I say, proud of myself for maintaining a pleasant, normal tone. Nate turns to look at me, and there is a moment of heat in those gray eyes and then they go cold. He stirs his coffee, throws away the tiny red and white straws and nods at me, not meeting my eyes.

“Julianne.”

And with that, he turns on his heel and walks to his office.

I face the coffee, my back to the room, and close my eyes tightly. Okay, that hurt. I know I have to get used to it. Nothing can change for us here. But seeing the chill in his eyes, knowing I can’t touch him…
fuck.

I pour my coffee and head back to my own office to find an email from Nate waiting for me, asking me to compile some data on an account and ship it back to him asap.

Then I pull my phone out of my handbag to check for any messages and there is a text, from Nate, received two minutes ago.

Good morning. You look amazing in that black dress. I wanted to fuck you in the break room, but I think that would be frowned upon.

Oh my God! I giggle and my hurt feelings magically disappear.

You look delicious this morning. Almost forgot how hot you are in your suits. Of course, you’re hot out of your suits too, ace.

I missed you last night.

I sigh at this last text.

Missed you too. Did you sleep okay?

I bring up the internet on my computer to start the work Nate requested when my phone chirps.

No.

Oh.

I’m sorry to hear that. Do you have any available time around lunch? I’d ask Mrs. Glover, but this isn’t a professional request.

I dig into my research, and realize it’s been at least ten minutes since my last text. I frown, wondering if he’s going to respond when my phone chirps.

I just cleared thirty minutes at 12:30. Told Jenny I need a lunch meeting with you.

My desk phone rings.

“Jules Montgomery,” I answer.

“This is Mrs. Glover, Jules. Mr. McKenna is requesting a lunch meeting with you at twelve thirty.” She sounds polite and brisk.

“Thank you, Mrs. Glover. I’ll be there.”

She hangs up and I pick up my phone.

It’s a date.

Could the morning have gone any fucking slower? Every minute was excruciating as I sat watching the clock, wishing time would pass. Finally, at twelve twenty-five, I shut down my computer and lock my desk, grab my iPad and walk with purpose to Nate’s office.

“You can go on in, Jules,” Mrs. Glover smiles at me and I walk through Nate’s office door, thankful that there are no windows looking out into the reception area, and close the door behind me. I silently turn the lock.

“So,” I turn to face him and smile at him, enjoying the sight of him sitting behind his desk. His eyes are warm as he watches me cross the room toward his desk.

“So,” he replies.

“Just to clarify, you are not my boss right now.”

“Okay.”

I walk around his desk and he swivels in his chair so he’s facing me, looking up at me. A smile flirts at the corners of his lips and I can’t resist him. I lean down, planting my hands on the arm rests of his chair and kiss him, pushing my tongue past his lips, teasing him and pulling back, and suddenly he’s wrapped his arms around me and pulled me into his lap.

With one arm wrapped around my waist and one hand in my hair, he pulls me hard against him and takes control of the kiss. He’s kissing me as though he needs it, as though he’s dying of thirst and I’m the first drink of water he’s seen in days. It’s thrilling, intoxicating, and I wrap my arms around his neck and hang on for the ride. After long minutes of being in Nate’s arms, I remember what my original plan was for this lunch meeting and I stand up off his lap.

“Where are you going?” He grabs for my hand, but I pull it out of his reach and kneel on the floor between his legs.

“Not far.”

His eyes widen. “Julianne…”

“Shh,” I press a finger against his lips to silence him. “Just sit back and enjoy, babe. Nothing like a blow job to brighten up a Monday.”

I unfasten his pants and pull his large, hard dick out of his boxer-briefs and immediately wrap my lips around the head, teasing his apa with my tongue and Nate’s hips surge up in his chair.

“Holy fuck, baby!” He grabs my hair in his hands and holds onto me as I move up and down his beautiful cock, gripping him with my lips, sucking up on him and then sinking back down until I feel that metal in the back of my throat.

I moan against him and jack him with my hand while cupping his scrotum with my other hand. I’ve never felt sexier, more powerful, more in control, and I love it. I love making Nate mad with lust for me.

“Oh God, yes Jules… suck it… Oh my fuck, baby.” His naughty words urge me on and I move faster, harder, until suddenly he stands, picks me up by my shoulders, bends me over and is suddenly inside me. He grips my hair in one hand, pulling me back until it’s just this side of painful, and grips my hip tightly as he slams in and out of me, over and over, before grunting as his climax claims him, pulling me with him.

He slips out of me and steps back and I feel the wetness ooze down between my legs. Nate gasps. “That’s the sexiest fucking thing, baby.”

I grin and stand up, shimmy my skirt down, and kiss his chin as he tucks himself away and zips his pants. “Can I use your bathroom, please?”

“Of course, help yourself. He gestures to the door that leads into his private bathroom and I walk inside and clean myself up.

“Well, looks like we’ve got about ten minutes left of this lunch meeting, Mr. McKenna.” I saunter back into his office and find him standing at his window, arms crossed, gazing out at the view of the Sound and the Space Needle. I walk up behind him and wrap my arms around him, pressing a kiss to his back.

He covers my hands with his own and we stand there for a long moment until I finally ask, “What’s wrong?”

“Absolutely nothing.” He turns to me and presses a soft kiss to my cheek. “That was a nice surprise.”

“If you keep sexting me the way you do, I’ll give you a nice surprise every day.” I wink at him and he grins delightedly at me.

“How’s your day so far, baby?”

“Long. Yours?”

“The same. Better now, though.” He kisses me and sits in his chair, pulling me back into his lap. “I’m going to be in meetings the rest of the day, so I won’t see you until tomorrow.”

I wrap my arms around his shoulders and bury my face in his neck. “Okay.”

“Come to my place after work. You can stay with me tonight.” He’s rubbing my low back in a rhythmic circle and I want to purr.

“You have a late meeting, remember?”

“I want to come home to you.”

I lean back and search his sincere eyes. I don’t want to tell him no. Last night without him was horrible.

“I don’t want to sleep without you,” he whispers. How can I resist him?

“Okay,” I whisper back and bury my face in his neck again, enjoying these last few minutes with him before we have to go back to work. “I’ll be there.”

Chapter Nine

Today is my birthday.

I fire up my computer to get the work day started when there is a knock on my door.

“Come in,” I call out.

Mrs. Glover comes breezing efficiently into my office, carrying a large bouquet of colorful mixed flowers.  “These just came for you, Jules.”

“Oh, thank you!”  She places them on my desk and leaves my office, shutting the door behind her.  I greedily pull the small white card out of the bouquet and open it, praying they’re from Nate.

They aren’t.

Happy Birthday, baby sister.  Have a good day.  Love, Will

He’s sweet.  Will is the closest to me in age.  I pick up my phone and send him a text to thank him for the flowers then get back to work.

An hour later, there is another knock and Mrs. Glover comes back into the room carrying a large bouquet of pink roses.  “I think you should just leave your door open today, Miss Montgomery.”  Her tone is dry and full of humor and I laugh.

“Good idea.”

I read the card, knowing these are from Natalie.  She always sends me pink roses.

Happy Birthday, best friend.  We love you, Nat, Luke and Baby

Oh, that makes me cry.  I love them too.  I fuss over the pretty blooms and set the bouquet on the window sill behind me.
