Doubt (The Connected Series Book 1) (2 page)

“I know. I would rather I didn’t have to, but things are still…
unsettled
and I need to be there to oversee and sort some things out,” he sighs, reaching for his glass “It won’t be for as long this time, I promise.”

“That doesn’t make it any easier Doug.” I sound like a grumpy, sulking child, and I hate that.
Pull yourself together Sophie, its work.

“You’re right, it doesn’t but after this trip, hopefully things will be more settled, I will know more about what is going on and I won’t need to go back for a while.” he pulls my chin up so he is looking me in the eyes, “And maybe the next time I have to go, you can come with me...” he breathes, his eyes hopeful.

“We’ll see…” I say, turning to check on dinner again. We’ve had this conversation before, I can’t just up and leave at the drop of a hat like he can, and his visits are never really planned. I have to work, if I don’t work, I don’t get paid.

“Dinner is almost ready, could you lay the table?” I ask opening the drawer where the place mats are kept.

“Sure.” he sounds uncertain now, like he doesn’t understand my reaction and he regrets bringing this up now.

If I’m honest, I regret him bringing it up right now, we’ve only been back together for an hour and a half, I just wanted to spend the evening catching up and being together, now all I can think about is the fact he will be leaving again soon. I serve dinner and we sit, together, enjoying the food, the champagne and the candles while
Otis Redding
croons in the background. It’s just what I need right now. I decide to forget Doug’s forthcoming trip and enjoy him while he is here.

“I’ve got chocolate mousse in the fridge, and fresh strawberries if you fancy it?” I look up at him from under my eyelashes and smile. His eyes darken and he reaches over to take my hand in his.

“You do, do you...” his thumb is making circles on the back of my hand. The touch lights the fire deep within me and my muscles tighten in deep, dark places. My breath hitches and I groan just a little.

“Yes.” I croak, “I do.” his eyes are hooded and focused on my mouth.

“Then I guess it would be a shame to waste it...” he moves a fraction closer so I can feel his breath on my face “Shall I get it Sophie?” he whispers, so softly I instinctively move closer.

“Yes...”I whisper brushing my lips against his.

I close my eyes and when I open them, he is gone. I can hear him in the kitchen, opening the fridge and getting spoons. I take a sip of my champagne to try and calm myself. Before I know it, he is back with the bowl of mousse and strawberries.

“I thought we might try something.” he smiles. It’s a confident smile, a smile that tells me, he isn’t talking about the mousse.

“Okay...” I falter when I see him reveal a black silk scarf from behind his back.

“I want to try this.” he grins, holding the scarf in his hands, running the material through his fingers “But we don’t have to, I just thought...” I inhale, surprised by just how much I want to try this.

“No, I want to try it.” my breathing is getting faster and there is a persistent ache in my sex that is becoming more difficult to ignore. “So... how does this work?” I ask, leaning forward to grip him by the hips.

“Well, usually, someone can’t see and someone can.” he teases me, grinning wickedly. I roll my eyes.

“I know that!” he laughs and lowers his lips to mine.

“Well, I thought, I would blindfold you...” he murmurs against my mouth,

“Ooookay.” I manage to whisper, my voice sounds husky, strained.

He takes my hand and stands me up, facing away from him. He comes to stand behind me and sweeps my hair to one side, leaning down he kisses my bare shoulder and trails kisses up my neck, pausing just under my ear, the one place guaranteed to bring goose bumps to my skin.

“Ummmm” I lean into his touch, relishing the feel of his lips on my bare skin. Slowly, he raises his hands and the scarf and places it over my eyes. Everything goes black.

One thing I hadn’t thought about was that with one sense taken away, your other senses are heightened. I can suddenly hear everything. The distant click of clock hands, the hum of the fridge, my fast breathing, Doug’s heartbeat. And I can smell so much more, the fruity smell of the champagne, the sweet smell of the strawberries, the unmistakable smell of Doug. It makes my mouth water. Fastening the scarf behind me head Doug kisses below my ear again.

“Is it too tight?” he whispers.

“No, it’s perfect.” and it really is.

The silk against my skin feels cool, sexy and the lack of sight makes everything seem more exciting. I know what everything around me looks like, but suddenly, not being able to see adds a new dimension to my surroundings. The carpet under my naked feet feels softer and more welcoming. I become aware of the song change and I groan.
Lenny Kravitz
. There has always been something about Lenny’s voice that I find incredibly sexy; his deep, rough voice sends shivers down my spine. Doug leans in placing a kiss to my mouth, so light, I’m not even sure I didn’t imagine it.

“I’m going to remove your clothes” he whispers, breathing close to my neck.

I am immobilised, in a trance, waiting for his next move. He slowly unbuttons the shirt I am wearing, his shirt; it smells heavenly, of him. As he undoes each button he kisses the skin it reveals. Slowly, one by one until all the buttons are open, with a move, so gentle, he pushes the shirt open and off my shoulders revealing my naked breasts to him. The air feels cooler than before and my nipples instantly stiffen, and then his mouth is on me, his tongue circling one erect peak, biting down gently then soothing with his tongue again.

“Oh... god... Doug!” my legs feel like they are about to give way and I grip him, holding onto him to keep me standing.

“I know, baby, I know.” his strong arms wrap around me, lifting me effortlessly onto the table. I gasp, the wooden table is cold under my bare skin.

“It’s cold.” I laugh arching my back so less of my body is in contact with the table.

“You won’t even feel it soon.” he assures me. And pretty soon, he is right.

The table is unforgiving under my back, but it does make moving easier, one firm push and Doug has me exactly where he wants me. I can feel him at my feet. Slowly he raises my ankles and plants a kiss on either side.

“Raise your hips.” his tone is strong, clear, dominating.
Hot
. I do as he asks and he slowly removes my knickers, peeling them slowly down my thighs.

“You’re so gorgeous, you know that.” he leans forward and plants a kiss at the apex of my thighs, I arch my back, leaning into his touch and whimper as he moves back, just out of my touch.

“Doug, please.” I hear his soft laugh, but he doesn’t come closer.

“You have to wait.... It will be worth it.”
I

ll have to take his word for it, won

t I
? I roll my eyes, not that he can see.

It is completely silent; there isn’t any music,
nothing
. Then I feel something cold on my stomach, it feels wet. It is a surprise and I flinch. Then there is heat, unbelievable heat. The music starts to play once again,
Paradise
- how fitting. The coldness, I realise, is the mousse.
Wow
. The smell is delicious, Doug’s tongue is even more so. He laps and kisses my stomach where the mousse is and the mixture of cold and hot and sticky does strange and wonderful things. He moves so he is over me and leans closer, I lean forward to meet his lips and am greeted with a strawberry, I groan as I close my mouth over the ripe, juicy fruit and take a bite.

Strawberries and Doug, there couldn’t be a more delicious combination could there? I am wrong, strawberries, Doug and chocolate mousse, now
that
is a combination that is amazing. He slips his tongue into my mouth and I respond immediately, grasping his hair, pushing my tongue into his mouth, groaning with pleasure. I lock my legs around his waist pulling him to me.

His hands travel down my body and find the ache between my legs, with each stroke, the need is getting greater, I need this release, It’s as if my whole life depends on it, Doug sensing my urgency and need unlocks my legs, licking and biting his way down my body, I feel his hot, stiff cock pressing against me.

“Doug, I
need
you inside me, now!”

“Not yet, I told you, you have to wait.” I groan in frustration, which quickly turns into ecstasy when I feel his tongue circle my clit. I groan and grind myself into his mouth.

“You taste better than the mousse, baby,” he breaths on me then returns to his delicious torture.

I can feel the pressure begin to build, my whole body starts to heat. Doug slips a finger inside, closely followed by a second, all the time continuing to lick and suck on my clit. I feel him open me up and feel the strangest sensation, its wet and soft and I can feel something running down the length of my opening, I gasp as I feel Doug licking and sucking me.

“Strawberries and Sophie. Ummmmmm, better than strawberries and cream.”

I realise what the strange sensation is, Doug has placed a strawberry just inside me and is both eating
me
and
it
at the same time. It’s unexpected. It’s weird and I have to admit, it’s
hot
.

He continues his torment of my clit humming as he dips his tongue inside. I feel the pressure build and build and as
Chris Martin
finishes the song I explode, gloriously over and over, my whole body trembling. Calling out, what I think was,
Oh. YES!

Chapter Three

I am just alert enough to feel Doug climb on top of me and slide his way in.
Fucking hell
, without the ability to see, the feeling is exquisite, like nothing I have ever felt before. I can feel everything, more than I have ever felt before. I cling to him, unable to stop myself.

“Oh Soph,
that
was incredible,
You
are incredible.” he leans down and kisses me passionately.

“That. Was. Amazing.” I croak kissing him back.

I feel him picking up pace as he chases his own release. I lose myself in him, to the sensations, to the darkness, to the beautiful song playing. I grab his face and press my lips to his, kissing him I pour all my emotion into it. The love I feel for him is like nothing I have ever experienced before. I can feel him getting close, gripping my hips tighter, his thrusts going deeper; it heats my blood and covers my whole body in a layer of sweat.

“I love you.” I growl, desperately trying to hold onto the pressure I can feel is ready to explode again.

“I love you more than you can ever know, Sophie”

And with that we both come yelling each other’s name, clinging to each other, Doug burying his face into my neck. The strains of
Halo
lingering in the air.
You're everything I need and more, it's written all over your face Baby, I can feel your halo, Pray it won't fade away.

***

After laying on the table, sticky and sated, Doug is the one who suggests getting cleaned up.

“I haven’t had my dessert yet.” I pout. He throws his head back and laughs at me.

“It’s not funny, you had yours, now I want mine.”

I sit up, grabbing the bowl of mousse and dunk a few strawberries in it. With a spoonful, I very deliberately, open my mouth closing it over the mousse and strawberry, groaning at the light, fluffy texture and the bitterness of the chocolate. As I bite into the strawberry, my mouth is filled with its juice and the memory of earlier come floating into my brain making me blush.

“This is
soooo
good.” I dive in for another and grin at Doug.

“I agree. But are you going to share?” he raises an eyebrow at me.

“Did you share earlier?” I question him, smirking.

“As it happens, I did. You tasted the chocolate and you
definitely
had your lips around a strawberry if I remember correctly?” he grins wickedly at me and my mouth pops open.

“I cannot believe you just said that.”

“Believe it, baby.” he says swooping in and stealing my spoonful of mousse.

“You’re lucky you’re cute Mr Roberts or I would be kicking you
out
right now.
Don

t
mess with a girl and her chocolate!” I swat his hands away from my spoon and load up another. It really is delicious.

“I hate to bring this up, but I am absolutely knackered and I have an 8.30 meeting tomorrow morning, would you mind if I showered and went to bed?”

“I have to be out by 8 too.” I smile, licking the last bit of chocolate from it.

“Let’s go then, up!” Doug stands and holds his hand out for me. With a sigh, I take his hand and walk into the bedroom. We shower together then fall into bed.

“How are you still even awake?” I look incredulously at Doug who, although already lying down looks perfectly awake.

”Sugar rush.” he smiles.

“Well, no more sugar for you. Sleep.” I slip under the covers and turn off the light.
