Worth Taking The Risk (14 page)

I’m startled. Was it me or Mitch just said something nice to me out of the blue?

Hmm. I think I’m over reacting.

Melissa glared at me. “Mitch has no time for foolish girls like you. He’s mine so don’t interfere.”

I wanted to yell at her but decided to ignore her, nothing pisses her more.

Chapter 20

I never expected that having dinner with the Gaynor’s would be fun.

Mitch’s face was redder than a tomato. I never expected to see him embarrassed about anything but here he was with his head bowed and eyes glued to his plate.

“Oh and remember that time when he was twelve and ran out of the house naked?” Richard laughed.

I chuckled. “Why would you do that?”

Mitch looked up to me, embarrassment and something I couldn’t place flashed in his eyes. “I thought the house was on fire!”

I bet my face made a big question mark. “What?”

“Now I remember.” Emma chuckled. “He was going to take a shower-”

“Mom!” Mitch whined.

“What? You shouldn’t be ashamed of that. Anyone in your place would’ve done the same thing.” she paused to think about it. “Well a normal kid would’ve grabbed a towel or something…”

“God you’re embarrassing me!” Mitch looked away from his parents to stare at the wall.

Melissa stared at him intently. What a creep.

“Like I was saying, he was about to take a shower when the fire alarm went on. Next thing you know we hear Mitch screaming his lungs out shouting ‘fire. Fire!’ running down the stairs and out the door.”

I couldn’t stop myself from laughing. I was laughing so hard that even Mitch turned to look at me with amusement. “God I would’ve loved to be there when you were twelve.”

“Shut up, its not that funny.” he crossed his arms faking to be pissed, his lips turning into a small smile.

“We couldn’t make him go out of the house for two weeks. All the neighbors heard and saw him.” Emma chuckled.

“I’m going to my room.” Mitch got up, was almost out the place when he stopped to look at me. “Girl?”

I turned to look at him with an eyebrow raised. “Yes?”

“Hope you brought that dress, I’ll like to continue painting you.”

I glared at him and he smirked. “Of course.”

He left and now Melissa is glaring at me.

“Mitch is painting you? That’s fabulous!” Emma smiled.

“He hasn’t asked for a model in a while, and let me tell you he is very picky with them.” Richard smiled and looked over at Emma.

What is that supposed to mean?

-*-

I woke up with the sun hitting my face. I’m sure I closed the curtains.

Slowly, I opened my eyes…

I’m going to jail! Reason? Murder of a teenage immature girl named Melissa.

She’s smirking and finished opening the curtains.

“Could you get any more immature?” I snapped and got up, grabbed some underwear and went inside the bathroom.

A cold shower will help with the frustration.

Once I was finished I put on my underwear and came out of the bathroom. Melissa was seating on her bed reading something, she glanced at me and scowled.

“What’s up with those tattoos?”

“None of your business.” I replied and went to take out something to wear from the suitcase.

It’s sort of hot here. I grabbed the red shorts and put them on, now I need a shirt.

“That’s stupid. You know you wont be able to take them off?” Melissa was now staring at me.

“That’s the point.” Hmm, maybe the white shirt Ambrose designed for me. It had all sorts of pictures in the front with band names and on the back said: A & K FOREVER. It was childish but I loved it.

I grabbed some sandals and then began to dry my hair and then proceeded to straighten it. I’m not wearing make up today.

“Why aren’t you wearing make up?” Melissa asked a bit panicked.

Jeez, its not like I look hideous without it.

Slowly I turned to look at her, she had way too much make up on. “I’m not desperate to get anyone’s attention.”

“Look Mitch and I belong together. We are both rich and good looking it’s only right to stay together. Plus our fathers have been friends since forever. don’t come here trying to be something you’re not. A low life like you shouldn’t even dream of being with a guy like Mitch.”

It stung, of course it did, but I wasn’t about to show weakness with this girl so I ignored her.

I went downstairs and saw Emma arguing with Mitch.

“I’ll drive then!” he snapped.

“What? No! are you out of your mind? Why don’t you wait until tomorrow?” when she saw me I swear her eyes shined brighter. “Keller could you take Mitch down town? He needs to buy something and it cant wait.”

“Of course.” damn I wanted to eat something.

Emma handed me the keys. “Thank you so much.”

I nodded and smiled.

“Hurry I don’t want Melissa tagging along.” Mitch said and quickened his pace.

“What’s up with you today?” I asked him once we were in the car driving away from the cabin…In the middle of the woods. A bit creepy and amazing at the same time.

He didn’t answer though. After a few minutes he snapped: “Stop the car!”

I did, immediately, then turned to him. “What the hell? You want to give me a heart attack or something? Jesus don’t ever do-”

My rambling was cut off short by his familiar soft lips pressed against mine, his hand soon on my neck pressing me harder to him and deepening the kiss and, and…everything went black.

Chapter 21

“Are you sure you’re okay?”

Mitch asked for the fourth time. We were at this small store and I was waiting for Mitch to finish getting what he needed.

After the kiss I’d fainted for some odd reason, am I sick? I shook my head to take the thought out of my head.

“I’m fine, are you done?” I asked impatiently.

Mitch scowled and nodded. We paid and got inside the car.

“Damn, I’m stopping for gas.” I murmured.

Mitch didn’t say anything and kept texting, for some reason that annoyed me.

I got off the car at the gas station, there was a guy standing beside the gas and his face lit up when he saw me, or more likely a client.

“Hello there.” he smiled and waved.

I gave him a smile of my own. “Forty.”

He frowned and nodded. I leaned against the car and waited.

“You aren’t from around here.” he didn’t ask.

“No, just on a weekend trip.” I smiled and answered anyways.

“Well if you need a tour I’ll be happy to give you one. I’m Rick.”

I heard the car’s door open and I saw Mitch get out, with a bit of difficulty. And he was stubborn enough to want to drive here alone? He’s an idiot most of the time.

“She won’t be needing a guide, bud.” Mitch told Rick with a deadly glint in his eyes.

“Hey man no problem.” Rick raised his hands in defense and then Mitch turned to me.

“Ma said we need to be there now. Family is arriving like damn ant army.” Mitch winced.

“Do I have to change?”

“Yeah, and don’t feel bad if they look down at you. They do that with me all the time, just ignore them.” Mitch shrugged.

“Great, maybe I should stay in my room and wait for everyone to leave.”

“Not a chance, I think Ivy is there already. I need someone to stick with.” Mitch looked really disgusted when he said that name.

“Ivy?”

“Yeah the senators daughter, I don’t know how she got here but the chick is a freak.”

“How about Melissa, she’s sure eager to spend time with you.” I was surprised that my voice held so much venom.

Mitch scowled. “Don’t leave me with a bitch. Come on, I’ll even stop being a jerk for the rest of the day.”

I raised an eyebrow. “No, you’ll stop being an ass for the rest of the weekend. You can be an ass to Melissa but you’ll be nice to me and I’ll keep Ivy away from you no matter what.”

Mitch looked me in the eyes for what seemed like an eternity then he groaned. “Alright, I’ll play it nice for the weekend.”

“No rude comments, no making fun of me, no slamming doors on my face or anything like your usual self.” I pointed my finger at him.

“I’m not that much of an asshole.” there was amusement in his eyes.

I rolled my eyes and patted his chest. “This is going to be fun.”

Someone cleared their throat, it was Rick. “Um, I was done ten minutes ago.”

“What? Why didn’t you say so?” I asked a bit annoyed.

“You two didn’t stop talking and it’s funny seeing you both.” Rick chuckled. “Here’s my number, call me if you change your mind uh…”

“Keller, and sure thing.”

Mitch grabbed the piece of paper before I could, he glared at Rick. “I said she wouldn’t be needing you and I meant it so fuck off.”

Rick chuckled and nodded.

“What was that for, I thought we made a deal.” I said and got inside the car.

“Yeah but that doesn’t apply other people just you.”

I turned the engine on and drove off. “Give me the paper Mitch.”

“No.”

“Why?”

“Because I don’t want to.” and god help me he’s pouting.

“That’s a childish answer.”

“You would know.” then he surprised me again by laughing. “That’s considered an insult I take it back. But if you don’t keep Ivy off me I’ll insult you like a sailor in front of everyone.”

“Bossy. Now seriously give me the paper.”

“I’m not messing with you, I’m not going to give it.” and he ripped the paper and threw it out the window.

“What is wrong with you?”

“I don’t like the idea of seeing you with another guy.” he said in a low voice, but I heard. Oh yeah I heard.

It’s a miracle I didn’t crash because that sounds like a damn confession to me. Alright not really but my heart is freaking racing!

The drive to the house was awkward and silent.

We got off the car and got in from the kitchen door, avoiding the visitors. Each of us headed to our rooms, receiving strange glares from his parents and Melissa. The chick even followed me to the room and locked the door behind her.

She’s wearing a white dress with a red belt and red heels and her hair straightened, her face covered with a bunch of make up. Well lets be the complete opposite.

I started taking my clothes off and grabbed the strapless black dress that reached mid thigh, managed to pull the zipper up without help. Then I went to the bathroom and started curling some of my hair then pulled it up into a sort of messy bun. Then I grabbed my black eyeliner and did a thin line and it made my eyes look really big, I placed a bit of lip gloss on and was ready to go.

“What happened?” Melissa finally spoke.

“I don’t know what you’re talking about.” I grabbed my shiny black heels and put them on.

The tattoo on my thigh was half way showing and the one on my neck was fully exposed. I hope his family isn’t against this type of stuff.

“You said something to him.”

“Stay out of my life Melissa, don’t come whining to me. If you have something to say go to Mitch, he’s old enough to handle it.” with that I was out the door.

I went to Mitch’s door but he didn’t open up so he must be downstairs. I walked down the stairs slowly, I didn’t wear heels as often as before.

The living room was filled with people wearing fancy clothes. We’re in the middle of a forest, cant they look a bit casual? I mean I was really comfortable with what I was wearing before.

I avoided people, even though some looked at me confused. Probably wondering who I was. I went straight to the kitchen and saw Emma talking to a lady around her sixties, Richard was nowhere to be seen, Mitch was leaning against the wall looking bored.

His face brightened and his eyes shined when he saw me, suddenly I felt naked. We wouldn’t stop staring at me!

“Now who is this lovely lady?”

Slowly I turned to the old lady. “I’m Keller, Mitch’s babysitter.”

“Anne, Mitch’s grandma. Its good to hear someone is taking care of him.”

Mitch groaned. “That sound so bad. Why don’t you say you’re my friend or something? I feel like a little kid.”

I rolled my eyes at him. “Deal with it.”

“If It wasn’t for the deal you’ll be buried twelve feet under.” Mitch came to stand beside me.

“What deal?” both Emma and Anne asked at the same time.

“She’s is going to keep Ivy away from me and the only way to do that is saying that she’s my girlfriend. In return I have to play it nice for the rest of the weekend.” he said calmly.
