She smiled and let out a big breath. It seemed like that was exactly the answer she was looking for to me. “Thanks a lot, Marissa.” She looked past me, toward the office area. “I'm looking forward to talking to your husband some time, too.”
I laughed. “Well, we'll all have to chat next time you're over.”
She giggled. “Okay.” Suddenly, a car horn honked outside. “That's my ride. I texted them when I saw you drive up.” She grabbed her purse and gave me a nervous wave from the door. “Bye!”
I waved and said bye as well. Then I went to the office. My husband was in his office chair, and I straddled him immediately without saying a word. I leaned in to kiss him, and it soon became passionate. In a moment, I was lifting his shirt up over his head.
When he had a moment to speak, he gave me a wry smile. “Just us?”
“Just us,” I replied.
“That's just fine by me,” he said, drawing me back in for another kiss.

I
laid in bed that night, my mind racing. Being so attracted to this new girl was something that I wasn't used to. I did have a really good life. I shouldn't take this rejection to heart. Still, I did want Emily, and I had a feeling it'd be only a matter of time before I managed to convince her that she wanted us as well.

even days later, that next Saturday, I had almost entirely forgotten about my encounter with Emily. I hadn't talked to Charlotte either, but Kevin's project was entering its “crunch time” phase, and he would be working all weekend, even going late tonight. We had already decided to skip a Saturday date night this week.
Sex was the last thing on my mind, in fact. Jill was settled down for her nap and I was catching up on a week's worth of housework. I wasn't expecting anything to happen, so when my phone chirped at me, I lazily looked at it.

arissa? I need your help. Can I call?

I
didn't recognize the number, so I texted back.

I
t's Emily.

M
y heart seemed to beat a little harder for a moment. Of course I hadn't saved her number from the other night.
––––––––
O
f course you can call.

M
y phone started to ring immediately.
“Hello?”
She talked a mile a minute. “Marissa, I'm sorry to bother you but I have no idea who else to turn to. I missed my ride for my soccer game today.”
I paused. “And?” I guess I wasn't that young if I couldn't remember teenage problems.
“And, if I don't make it I could miss out on my soccer scholarship.”
I straightened up a little bit. “That is a big deal. Do you need a ride?”
“Please? It's only about a twenty minute drive from my house.”
The last thing I wanted to do was chauffeur around this girl due to her own irresponsibility, but then again this might be my big chance. “Um, yeah, sure. I'll be at your house in ten minutes.” I hung up.
Jill's nap was nearly over anyway, so I didn't feel too bad about having to wake her up. I quickly strapped her into her car seat and was on my way.

“T
hank you so much for the ride, Marissa,” Emily said as we pulled into the parking lot by the soccer field.
“I told you already, it's no problem,” I said. It was almost the truth. In any case, I was glad to have her gratitude.
“So... I can probably get a ride home...”
I couldn't let her get away that easily. “Nonsense, I'm already out here. The baby and I will play here.”
For a moment I thought that might sound weird, like I was gonna hang around and stalk her for a little while. To my relief, Emily looked relieved as well. “Thanks. I'll keep an eye out for you.”
She ran off to the game while I got Jill and put her in the little baby backpack I kept for her in the car. The pack was actually on my front, so she snuggled up against me as I went over to watch the game.
The stands had a few dozen high schoolers in them watching the game, probably the kids who just enjoyed going to these to show school spirit. I had never really understood that myself, but then again I had never been very into sports in general.
The game was definitely already in progress. I watched the athletic Emily as she ran around the field to the far side. Her coach, a lady in her forties, saw her coming as she rounded the last corner. She crossed her arms, clearly mad at her.
I watched as Emily came up, probably offering a litany of apologies. I had never even asked what the reason was why she missed her ride, but it hadn't seemed important at the time. She seemed to be pleading, then angry, all while the coach stood there shaking her head.
Eventually, she went and sat down with all the other bench warmers. Moments later, a girl went down on the field. As the girl limped off the field, Emily sprang to her feet again. Now she was arguing much more fiercely with her coach, who seemed to argue back this time before sending another girl on the field. I could understand just what was happening, even though I couldn't hear them.
I looked over at the bleachers. I could sit with a bunch of high schoolers there, but I'd have to keep rocking the baby anyway. Or...
Maybe I could help.
Jill started to squawk in agitation just as I decided I should make a move. I stood up and walked around the field to the far side, where the players of each team were. Just as Emily saw me walking up, the referee blew the whistle. A player got a yellow card. I didn't know a lot about soccer, but I knew that if a player got too many of those, they'd be thrown out of the game.
Emily switched her attention from me to the coach. “Coach, you've got to put me in now. If Kate gets another yellow card, she'll be out for the season!”
The coach kept her arms crossed. “You should have thought about how bad you wanted to play when you were sleeping in this morning.”
“Hi, Emily? Is this your coach?” I butted in.
The coach turned around. “Who are you?”
I made up a story quickly. “I'm Emily's neighbor. Did she tell you that she slept in this morning?”
“Yes, and-”
I cut her off. “She's just covering for me. I needed her to watch my daughter this morning. Do you have kids?”
She nodded. “One of my daughters is on the field right now.”
I nodded with a lot of exaggeration. “Uh huh. I'm sure you remember what it was like in your earlier days of parenthood. We're down to one car, and I had to drive my husband to work. I thought I'd be back in time, but I got caught in traffic. I was late, and caused Emily to miss her ride.”
The coach looked flabbergasted. “Is this true, Emily? Why didn't you tell me?” Emily looked at a loss for words. “Well, go on, tell Kate that she's out for the game. And next time be upfront with me.”
“Yes, ma'am,” Emily said, peeling off her jacket to get out on the field. She flashed me a super cute smile before getting out on the field.
I watched her get into position before the game started up again, then turned to the coach. “Once again, I'm so sorry. She's a very responsible young lady.”
The coach's hard facade seemed to break. “Aw, don't worry about it. You just take care of that little baby and enjoy the game.”
I nodded and smiled, then started to head back toward the bleachers. When I looked back over my shoulder at the game, I saw Emily looking at me and smiling before running off toward the ball.
I'd enjoy the game much more now,
I thought to myself.

“T
hanks for the save there, Marissa. I was about to flip out back there.”
I smiled. “No problem.”
Emily had met me in the stands. I could tell that she wanted to talk to friends, but instead she came straight over to me. “Do you want to get out of here?”
Jill was getting fussy, and that was exactly what I wanted to do. I nodded, and we walked back to the car.
“It's just about Jill's nap time,” I said. “Do you mind if I nurse her before we go?”
Emily shrugged. “Not at all.”
I opened up the car and sat down in the driver's seat, and Emily sat down in the passenger's side seat. As I opened up my shirt and let my nursing bra open, I saw her eyes flick to my breasts. She made eye contact again pretty quickly, however, and Jill latched on immediately.
“So, I didn't exactly sleep in today, either,” she blurted out. I got the feeling that she just wanted a conversation so that she didn't stare at my boobs.
“I figured. You seemed like you didn't want to miss this for the world. So what happened?”
She sighed loudly. “My parents. My overbearing parents. I swear that they would keep me locked up in the house forever if they could. I'm one of the only one of my friends who can't drive yet.”
It sounded like she was ready to rebel. “Sounds like they don't want you to live life very much. But a soccer game? That seems like the kind of thing they'd want to encourage.”
She scoffed. “They encourage it only so far as it gets me a scholarship. And after today, I've had it about up to here with their protective attitude. Can you believe that they wouldn't drive me simply because I had a game yesterday also?
'Two games in one weekend? I'm not sure we can allow that',
” she said in what must have been her father's voice.
It seemed difficult to believe, but I remember how strange my parents were about some things. “I'm sorry to hear it. Some of the best lessons you can learn are to not do what your own parents did.”
“You can say that again,” she said. She looked over at me again. Jill was just finishing up, practically falling asleep as she sucked, and I moved my finger to help her stop sucking. “You seem pretty cool. I can't imagine you ever acting that way with Jill.”
“I'm sure your parents thought the same thing about themselves at some point or another,” I said. “You'll be out of the house in August, though. Better to just deal with their rules than cause a confrontation you'll regret later.”
She sighed softly. “Yeah, you're right.” There was a pause. “One thing I am allowed to do is babysit, though.”
My ears perked up. “Oh yeah? Hold that thought, I'm going to put the baby in her seat.”
I stepped out of the car and opened the back door. Jill was almost asleep, and as I carefully set her in the seat, she nestled into it. She looked at me with barely cracked eyes, and I knew she'd be asleep before I even left the parking lot.
I sat in the car and started it, but didn't drive away yet. “I wasn't planning on going out tonight.”
“Oh. Well, maybe some other time, then.”
“No, no. Let me ask Kevin if he wants to make plans.”
“Oh, Kevin.” She sounded confused.
“Yes, my husband. He thinks you're quite pretty also.”
“Also? You think I'm pretty?” she asked.
I turned toward her. “I think you're gorgeous. I love your hair, you have a beautiful face, and I would love to feel how muscular your legs are. Maybe I can be the one that gives the massage next time.”
She leaned in. “I might like that.”
I figured this might be the only chance I got. I leaned in and gave her a quick peck on the lips. She awkwardly opened her mouth. I wondered if she ever kissed a boy before, let alone a girl. In moments, however, when my tongue caressed her lips, she eased into it, enjoying it more and more.
In just a few moments, I heard the baby start to fuss. I broke from the kiss. “Princess Jillian says that we have to start moving,” I said with a smile.
She smiled and giggled. “Of course.” She reached back and pulled a blanket over Jill. “You know I love babies, right? I didn't get a chance to play with Jill the other night, but I especially love little babies like this.”
As I backed the car up, I had a fantasy of little Emily, her belly swollen with a baby of her own, my husband's baby. I could feel myself get wet just thinking of it. “I love them, too,” I agreed.

E
mily fired texts off fast and furious the entire way home. I hoped she wasn't spreading rumors all over her school already. Probably just talking about the soccer game, anyway.
When I got home, my husband's car wasn't in yet. Jill was still asleep, too.
“I texted my parents and told them I was babysitting,” Emily said.
That was fast
, I thought. “Great! Let me get Jill inside and then I'll call Kevin.”
She didn't seem to react to that.
I gently got Jill out of her car seat. She always slept so soundly in the car seat, and I knew she'd be asleep for at least an hour longer. Emily got the front door for me and I brought her into her room, setting her down in her crib and making sure she was settled before heading back to the living room. On the way back, I texted Kevin.

E
mily is here and she's horny.

I
stopped at the bathroom and by the time I was washing my hands, I had received a text back.
––––––––
I
'll be home in fifteen.

I
laughed. Typical. I got back to the living room. Emily was sitting on the couch, looking nervous. I sat next to her and leaned into her. “Tell me what's on your mind, sweetheart.”
She smiled, then took a deep breath. “I've never kissed a girl before, but kissing you was exactly what I imagined it'd be like. I want to have a good time up in college, but I don't want to be nervous the whole time. And I don't want to act like I'm worried about my parents finding out, because I don't care if they do.”
I smiled. This was perfect. “Well, I can help you out with that. Kevin can too. We helped Charlotte out.”
She giggled. “I figured you had. She has been floating on Cloud Nine recently, and she told us she lost her virginity, though she wouldn't tell us with who. We figured it was a member of the boy's soccer team, but now I know.”
I giggled. “We've had a good time with Charlotte.”
