The Valentine Date: Long Distance, Billionaires and Former Bad Boy's Collection (4 page)

“What?"

"It was calamari." He admitted.

It was Ivory's turn to turn even paler than she already was and she reached for the bottle Darius offered her.

He forgot to tell Jesse no seafood.

"Sorry." He said as he watched her gulp down the bottle. "I forgot about today and Jesse picked the food up"

He would never intentionally order seafood.

Ivory choked and Darius winced. He really should have put reminders.

"You forgot?”

Darius winced again. Whatever she yelled, he deserved, but he wasn't expecting her to say, "Thank god. I forgot too.”

“I’m sorry I-wait-you did?”

Ivory shrugged.

"At least, it's not a birthday or our anniversary." She laughed, her brown eyes sparkling in the moonlight. “A plus for the effort, though." She tugged on his tie, pulling him closer.

"At least now I don't feel too bad that I only got socks as a present.”

"I like socks," Darius agreed as he pulled her small body towards him, running his fingers through her hair and then froze. “Shit."

"What?" Ivory asked, confused as he jumped up.

"I think I killed your present.”

She watched Darius run towards the car. "Killed?" She asked and then she gasped, "No way!" She squealed getting up, "You got me a dog! You did, didn't you?" She said, feeling guilty about just getting him socks.

Grabbing her shoes she ran after him, but she didn't hear barking.

Darius was busy searching for something in the back seat.

"It's not a dog is it?" Ivory frowned realizing she couldn't see anything.  The socks were enough for him.

Darius looked over his shoulder, raising an eyebrow.

"Are you ever going to forget about that dog?”

“Never!"

Darius finally found what he was searching for and pulled it up from between the seat. Somehow it was a miracle the small pouch didn't burst.

"You can name him 'dog' if you want.”

Ivory looked over to what he was holding and raised an eyebrow herself, smiling.

"A fish?”

"Not just any fish, a fighter fish.”

She had to admit, it was gorgeous. Silver, the tail glistening in the moonlight, and it was a surprise that it was still alive.

She took the packet from him, raising it to her eyes to have a closer look at the elegant angel like fish before her and smiled.

"I like it." She admitted, "I'll name it Hound.”

That was the closest she'll ever get to a dog...for now.

The air turned chilly and she looked over her shoulder.

"We should get the picnic-," her sentence was cut off as she heard Darius groan, "Stupid tide."

She couldn't even make out where they were sitting before as the water was now towards the very edge of where they were standing. Of course. Just their luck.

Ivory laughed, shaking her head as she wrapped her hands around his neck, going on her tippy toes.

"You tried, I tried, time to call it a night.”

"Agreed wifey." Darius bent down to kiss her. "We'll remember next year.”

"Deal."
