The Unexpected Series (Unexpected #1-3) (60 page)

N
oelle has been acting strange lately. More strange than usual which is saying something but the last week she has been on edge. Getting upset with the weirdest things and being sensitive. The only reason I’m enjoying it is because the woman can’t keep her hands off of me. Anytime Jason isn’t here or if I stop by her work she jumps on me like I’m her last meal. Yesterday she showed up at my work and bent over my desk begging me to give her release.

Again, not fucking complaining.

I return home early today hoping to finish up the remodel we started on our bathroom without any distractions when I hear the house phone ring. We normally only use it for a fax machine. Not wanting to get dust all over the carpet I listen as the machine picks it up.

“This message is for Noelle Decker.” The woman’s voice blares through the house. God I love hearing her name attached to mine. “This is Amy from Dr. Richard’s office. It is imperative that you call us to get the results back from your blood tests. We’ll be here until 6:00 P.M. today.”

I run through the bedroom not giving a shit about making a mess anymore and try to catch the lady on the phone. She hangs up before I make it. I slump down onto my elbows, putting my head into my hands.

My stomach drops. Dr. Richard was Alex’s doctor and all sorts of crazy things run through my head as to what could be so wrong that they want to speak to her right away.

I sit on the bed and don’t move until I hear Noelle enter the house an hour later. I listen as she replays the message and then mutters a “shit”. I look at the clock seeing it’s just before six.

The front door slams again and a few minutes later it opens back up again. She enters the room finding me on the bed. “Trent. You’re a mess. I’m going to have to wash those sheets.”

I watch her cross the room and kiss me, then take off her work clothes. She’s completely naked in front of me but my dick doesn’t want to move. She eyes me suspiciously but doesn’t say a word while putting on a t-shirt and shorts.

“Come on,” she says trying to snap me out of it. “I’ll help you with the bathroom before Mama D drops Jason off.”

She’s not going to tell me?

I take her out reached hand and decide to let it go for now. I’m sure she’s going to tell me, right?

I
didn’t sleep at all last night. I was tossing and turning most of the time. Noelle on the other hand zonked out early and didn’t bother to straddle me like she usually does. Jason woke us up around eight and with three cups of coffee in me I’m still not awake as we get to Erin and Walker’s house for Savannah’s first birthday party.

I can’t believe my niece is a year old. I remember trying to avoid Noelle at the hospital and now she’s my wife.

Erin opens the door, eyes trained on Noelle. Noe nods her head and Erin brings us both in for a tight hug before sweeping Jason up and bringing him inside. I look over at Noelle trying to figure out that little exchange but she ignores me and walks in.

The house was in full force. I think they invited everyone they knew. Savannah was severely spoiled, as usual, and is passed out from all the partying a one year old could handle. Jason is running around with the rest of his cousins burning off the sugar from the cake they all had.

Savannah’s cries come from the monitor and Walker jumps up to get her.

“I’ll get her. I need to give her one more gift,” Erin says practically running out of the room.

I shake my head at her. She always has some sort of gift for her.

“Erin! You are worse with gifts than I am,” Walker yells making everyone else here laugh.

“It’s technically a gift for all of us,” she yells back.

My mom smirks at Walker from the corner like she has a secret.

Apparently everyone has a secret these days.

Noelle climbs sideways into my lap and wraps her arm around the back of me, playing with my hair. It’s relaxing and I’m so tired I just might fall asleep like this.

Walker’s question has my eyes flashing open. “What did you get her?” He tries to reach for Savannah.

“A shirt,” Erin says setting her down.

Her cute little walk has everyone “ooh-ing and ahh-ing” but it’s her shirt that has us all gasping in surprise.

It says “Big Sister” and Savannah’s toothy grin shows how proud she is.

Walker jumps up; bringing my sister into his arms and swings her around.

“Are you serious? Tell me it’s true,” he demands from her.

I know he’s excited. All I hear about from him lately is his wish for more children. I can’t help but smile. They are great parents. I wasn’t sure about him at the beginning but he treats my sister like a queen and my niece like a princess.

Noelle and I have talked about children. We haven’t been using any protection and she’s off birth control. She says if it happens then it happens but I’d love for Jason to have a sibling sooner rather than later.

“Insanely serious,” Erin confirms for him and kisses him.

I can’t look at their display anymore.

“You’re going to be a big sister!” Walker says picking up Savannah and kissing her on her cheek.

“We’re going to be preggo buddies,” Erin says smiling while looking directly at Noelle.

Her body stiffens in my lap but she doesn’t turn to look at me but my heart swells. I hope this isn’t a joke. My entire life would be complete if Noelle was pregnant. Up until this moment, I didn’t know how much I wanted it. I want it. I want a baby with Noelle.

“See, Noe,” Walker interrupts. “I told you someone would sweep you off your feet and knock you up.”

“You’re pregnant too?” My mom asks her before I get the chance to.

She finally turns to face me and a smile I haven’t seen since the day we got married a month ago appears. “I’m pregnant,” she says as a lone tear falls down her perfect cheek.

I wipe it away. “Is that what the doctor called about yesterday?” I ask hoping all my fears will be erased.

“You heard that message?” Her eyebrows shoot up.

I nod, but don’t say a word.

“It is. The nurse didn’t know I already spoke to the doctor and forgot to give me my prenatal vitamins. She called it in and I had already picked it up.”

“You’re having my baby?” I ask again. “You’re making Jason a big brother?”

Her smile widens if possible. “Yes, I’m going to have all of your babies.”

The entire room fills with excitement as two new grandchildren are due to be born in September.

Everyone starts to clear out after congratulations are given to all of us and I run all of our things outside to warm up the car. Loud arguing comes from just around the corner.

“You disappeared, Hadley! You didn’t give me a chance to explain. To tell you it wasn’t what you thought,” a male voice belonging to Ryder says.

Why is he here?

“Bullshit, Ryder. You promised you would never hurt me. I was seventeen for Christ’s sake!” Hadley yells back. “I loved you!”

All of the sudden I hear a loud bang and I run around the corner. I find Hadley pushed against the garage door with Ryder’s lips and hands glued to hers. They stop, breathless, and look at me.

“I’m so sorry. I thought someone got hurt,” I apologize. “Looks like you’re just fine.”

I laugh and turn to go back inside leaving them to finish.

I find Noelle putting her coat on. “I just found Hadley being felt up by Ryder outside,” I tell her.

Her eyes go wide. “No! She has a boyfriend and she told me yesterday she hated him!”

I shrug. “I don’t know but that didn’t look like hate. It looked like pent up sexual frustration.”

Noe just shakes her head.

W
e arrive home late and I carry Jason’s sleeping body into his room. Noelle follows me and tries to help rid him of his coat. She is very protective of him. I’m almost kinda jealous.

“I hope it’s a girl,” I comment.

She looks at me confused. “Why?”

“Because he gets all of your attention. I’m selfish, I don’t want another guy around here stealing your heart.”

“There’s room for all of you in here,” she says patting her chest.

Jason squirms in my arms and wakes up crying for Noelle. Smiling, she takes a seat in the rocking chair that still sits in the corner and opens her arms for me to place him in, proving my previous point.

I leave the two of them alone. They have a nightly ritual now. She talks to him and twirls his hair around as she tells him all the stories I have told her about Alex then she sings to him just as he is about to fall asleep.

I step into our bedroom and flip on the monitor so I can hear them talk. She doesn’t know I do it but I love it. Sometimes she slips in a story about her and me that makes me laugh.

“...and your mommy, Alex, had the most beautiful brown hair. Nothing like my blonde hair. She would braid it all the time and she never had to wear any makeup. She was naturally beautiful unlike me who needs a few extra minutes in the morning,” she tells him and I can hear him giggle.

“And,” she continues. “She loved you so much. She left notes for all of us for after she went to be with the angels. She told me to raise you right and I looked up at the sky and promised her that I wouldn’t let you end up with a no good skank.”

“Skank,” Jason repeats and Noelle giggles.

I laugh out loud and quickly shut my mouth.

“I bet your daddy is listening. He doesn’t think I know he turns on the monitor but I do. Tell Daddy you love him really loud.”

I hear some rustling and then I jump when Jason screams, “LOVE YOU!”

Noelle snickers and then more rustling. “Alright, little man. Let’s get you to bed,” she says and then starts singing.

You are my sunshine, my only sunshine. You make me happy...”
Her voice filters through the house. She says she sounds terrible but she sings like an angel.

I lie on the bed and listen to her as she sings my son, our son, to sleep.

“Goodnight, big brother,” she says. “Soon you’re going to have a little sister or brother to take care of. I love you.”

It’s quiet and then all of the sudden Jason says, “Love you, mama.”

My heart fills with elation. Noelle has said she never wants to take Alex’s place, but I bet she is grinning from ear to ear right now.

She walks into the bedroom and runs straight to our bathroom. I hear her blow her nose and then steps out. Her eyes are red and from the looks of it she is happy just like I thought.

I motion for her. “Come here.”

She complies and straddles me on the bed. “I’m so happy,” she cries pushing away the last of her tears.

“I am too. You make me happy, Sunshine,” I declare shifting on the bed so she doesn’t know how affected I am by her position.

She grinds on my hard dick and her smile is laced with seduction. “You feel happy. Why don’t you lay back and let me be your undoing.”

“A
re you freaking kidding me?” I scream as another contraction hits. “How did Erin push out the twins?”

“It’s okay, Sunshine,” Trent says trying to comfort me. “The doctor said the epidural should start working soon.”

“That doctor is stupid. He probably didn’t put the needle in right. You would think with six kids at home he would have better aim,” I say calmly as the pain subsides a little.

He pushes a washcloth across my head and keeps an eye on the monitor. “Hmm.”

“I swear if you warn me when another contraction is about to start I’m going to punch you in the balls so you can feel what I’m feeling,” I threaten.

Sitting back on the chair next to my bed, he takes my hand in his and stifles a laugh.

“This is the only baby you’re getting from me, do you understand?” I ask.

I gained forty pounds and just as many stretch marks. I know I’m going to shit on this table for the crap, no pun intended, I gave Erin about it and if he thinks I’m doing this again he has lost his damn mind.

He smiles at me. “Yes, Noe. I do.” The look in his eyes tells me that won’t suffice.

The nurse walks in and checks me just as another pain shoots through my body. I try not to kick her in the face as she sticks her hand halfway up into me.

“Ten centimeters. I’ll get the doctor so we can get your little one out,” she tells me like she is giving me the time.

“NO!” I scream. “I can feel everything you’re doing. We have to wait.”

“We can’t wait, Mrs. Decker. I’m sorry.” Her annoyed tone evident.

I reach over for my husband. “Trent. I can’t do this. I can’t squeeze a bowling ball out of me when I can feel everything. I’ll pass out.”

I don’t know how Erin did it. Last week she not only pushed out baby Joshua but also baby Lilly moments later. Walker is one kid short of his dream. That bitch had the audacity to tell me she would do it all over again. That bitch’s epidural was also working.

Trent and I decided to wait until the baby was born to find out what we are having. I think it’s a boy but Trent desperately wants a girl. I’m not sure he is aware of all the girl stuff that comes with her. Fighting off boys, periods and hormones.

Boys seem easier. Jason is the model child. Even at three he isn’t bratty or spoiled. He seems to enjoy life, and I’m happy to live life again through his eyes.
