“Drive straight!” Joshua admonished as she attempted to get back on the path.

“I am,” Rene laughed.

“No, you aren't, we have to stop. Stop!”

Rene stopped the cart and swapped seats with him. “I have never met anyone who drives a golf cart that badly,” he told her as she grinned up at him.

“Well I tried,” she replied. Joshua raised his eyebrow as if to say, “Really? Because it was that bad.” Rene could not help but laugh. Once he was behind the wheel, they were able to make it to the golf course without further incident.

“At least we arrived with our limbs intact,” he teased as they got out of the cart and grabbed their bags.

“Whatever,” Rene said as she walked to the first tee.

Joshua hit his ball with no issues at all; however, it was a surprise to both of them when Rene hit the ball on her first attempt. Screaming with glee, she jumped up and down with excitement.

“It was a fluke,” he told her as she glared at him.

“Don't ruin it, Josh,” she replied as he narrowed his gaze at her.

The game continued with Rene getting progressively worse. Despite doing her best to mimic his moves, she could not seem to hit the ball. Coming up behind her, he placed his hands on her hips, as she looked up at him startled.

“You need some instruction,” he told her as he held her against him. Pushing her feet farther out, he adjusted her body so that she was in the proper stance. Wrapping his body around her, he held her hands on the club, as he showed her how to swing. Together, they brought the club down and hit the ball, but it did not go far. Sagging against him, she looked up at him as he smiled at her. “Now, try it again, without my help.”

“Try what?” she asked him as he looked at her bemused.

“To hit the ball. The way I showed you,” he told her patiently.

“Is that what you were doing?” she asked as she rubbed her head. “I don’t recall. Maybe you need to do it again,” she answered as she gave him a sidelong look. Joshua’s eyes darkened as he moved behind her. Rubbing up against him, “I think I might like golf more if we could play like this,” she told him cheekily as he laughed.

Chapter 12

The day could not have been more perfect, Rene thought as she dressed for dinner. Since her arrival at the palace, this was the first time that Joshua spent the entire day with her and she could not believe how much fun she had playing golf. Granted there was a lot of grabbing and fondling going on, but given all the security guards and staff surrounding them, Rene was too shy to do much else.

Sliding into her only cocktail dress, she shimmied her hips as it fell gracefully around her. Twirling around, she had to admit that she looked good as she slipped her feet into a pair of wedges. Muna had helped her with her make up as Maria swept her hair into a chignon similar to how the queen wore her hair. Looking at herself in the mirror, she was surprised at how mature she looked.

As she walked out into the corridor, she found Joshua waiting for her. He smiled, as he looked her up and down. Walking up to her, he reached for her hair and pulled the pins loose as her hair tumbled down around her shoulders.

“Hey! Maria worked hard on my hair,” she complained as he ran his fingers through it.

“I prefer it down,” he told her as she blushed. Taking her arm, they walked out to the waiting car.

The restaurant they went to was very beautiful and elegant. While large, in size, there were few tables spread about the room allowing its occupants some privacy. Small chandeliers graced the ceiling over each table as the crystals twinkled in the light.

The staff were dressed completely in black with the exception of red bow ties. They all bowed when they saw Joshua enter. A few patrons were already seated and they turned when they saw the staff bow. Quickly rising to their feet, they too bowed as the couple was escorted to their table. This was the first public outing they had together since coming to Al-Qalta and Rene could not help but notice how everyone treated him with such respect.

“This place is beautiful,” she said as she sat down.

“It’s my favourite,” Joshua replied. The waiter handed them both menus and Rene's eyes widened when she saw the prices. The cheapest dish was equivalent to $100 and that was not even including all the extras.

“What do they have in their dishes, diamonds?” she asked.

Joshua laughed. “They are prepared by the best chefs in the Middle East.”

Shaking her head in wonder, Rene realised how very different their worlds are. In the US, she would never have considered coming to a restaurant like this. The thought of it overwhelmed her. Unable to decide what she wanted, she had Joshua order for the both of them.

Twirling her wine glass, “I met your mother in the garden two days ago,” Rene said to him before taking a sip of her Chardonnay.

“Really? And?” he prompted.

“Nothing. We said hello and she left.”

Joshua raised his eyebrows. “That's it?”

“I know, right? I expected another intense interrogation.”

“She must have had other matters to attend to.”

Rene shrugged her shoulders. Whatever it was, she was glad that his mother had not stayed to speak to her. As the staff brought out their food, Rene’s mouth watered. Everything smelled so appetising, she could not wait to dig in. It was the perfect ending to her day; great food with the man she loved.

“Can you handle your wine this time?” Joshua asked her as the waiter refilled her glass.

“I handled it fine last time,” she replied with a grin. She knew he was remembering their time at the hotel and how quickly she became intoxicated. He raised an eyebrow as he looked at her.

“Admittedly, I don’t mind if you do get a bit drunk if it means the night ends the same way. So, please, go ahead.”

Rene smiled and shook her head as she reached out and touched his hand. She traced circles with her thumb on the back of his hand. His jaw clenched and his gaze grew more intense as he kept his gaze fixed on her face. Rene felt like crawling over the table and kissing him.

After drinking wine and flirting over dinner, when they returned to her quarters, they both were ready to tear each other’s clothes off. Joshua unzipped Rene's dress and watched it fall to her ankles. He groaned as he looked at her in her pink lingerie. He pulled her closer to him and started kissing her as she fumbled with the buttons on his shirt. Joshua kissed her as if it had been months since they had last touched.

Pushing him back, Rene panted as she tried again to unbutton his shirt. Taking her hands and placing them over his erection, he pulled his shirt off as she released the clasp on his belt buckle. Walking her backwards, she tumbled onto the bed as he followed her down.

Balancing over her, he looked into her eyes as he touched her face. Turning her head, she captured one of his fingers in her mouth sucking on it as his eyes darkened. Leaning down to kiss her, she nipped at his lower lip as she sucked on it causing him to groan. “If you keep that up, there will be no foreplay,” he told her as she skimmed her nails down his chest.

“Maybe we should skip the foreplay tonight,” she told him as she lifted her head to lick his nipple.

“So be it,” he told her as he pushed her legs apart. Sliding her panties to the side, he found her ready for him. Entering her swiftly, he began to plunge in and out. Lifting her legs to his shoulders, she lifted her hips and met him thrust for thrust as he moaned.

She fit around him so well, it was as if they were made for each other, he thought as he sped up. Grabbing his arms, she held onto him as they bounced on the bed. Within moments, he felt her begin to spasm, as she squeezed his forearms. His own orgasm struck as he continued to thrust into her. Calling out her name, he collapsed on top of her, careful not to crush her as she thrashed around beneath him. When they were both spent, he rolled to the side, taking her with him, as he held her tightly in his arms.

The next morning, Rene and Joshua were both awakened by a knock on the door. They looked at each other in confusion as Rene groaned. She hated being woken up. Joshua rubbed his face and yawned.

“Your highness, I am sorry to disturb you,” Rene heard Muna's voice.

“Muna, what's going on?” Rene called out.

“His highness, Prince James, is looking for Prince Joshua,” Muna replied. Joshua and Rene looked at each other.

“Is there anything wrong?” Rene asked.

“He said he must speak with him.”

“Okay, thanks, Muna.”

Joshua got out of bed and searched for his phone in his trousers. He fished it out and switched it on. There were dozens of missed calls and messages from James. Joshua grunted and listened to the voice messages as Rene watched his face go from expressionless to worry. A dark shadow appeared to come over his face.

“Is everything okay?” Rene asked him as she ran her hand through her hair.

“I have to go. I am late for a meeting,” he replied. Tapping a contact number on his phone, he put the phone to his ear.

“Hi,” he spoke into the phone. “I know... yeah.... okay.... keep them there.... I will be there as soon as I can…yeah... James I know...bye.” His conversation with James was short.

“You have to go?” Rene asked. She really hoped that he would say no.

“Yes, everyone is angry because I am late,” Joshua replied.

“I thought you had returned to the palace because you had completed your business.”

“No, it was only meant to be for the night.”

Rene sat up fast. “WHAT!” she demanded. She thought Joshua was back because he missed her. She was so happy to be there with him. Everything was perfect but she was being delusional.

“Rene, what?” Joshua looked confused.

“Seriously, so you came back for a fuck?”

Joshua whipped his head in Rene's direction and stared at her with his eyes wide open “Watch your language!” he barked. He did not looked pleased by Rene's choice of words.

“That is how it appears. I thought that you came here for me but you just came here for the night.” Rene laughed sarcastically. She shook her head and got out of bed. She grabbed her robe and fastened it tightly around her.

“You knew that I had work to do, let’s not do this again.”

“Do what Joshua? I really tried to hold back but I can't anymore.”

“I do not have time to talk about this right now. I am already lat-”

“You never have time!” she shouted. She was so upset and angry; she could feel her cheeks turning red. She started fanning herself. He was only here for a night? She felt used.

“I have work to do,” Joshua's tone was serious and flat as he dressed. Walking up to him, she took his face in her hands and searched his eyes.

“When we first met, you had come to the hotel because work was stressing you out. Obviously you need to work less,” Rene said to him. He had been stressed and wanted to get away from it but here he was now spending all his time in the office. It did not make sense.

“I love my work. Everyone needs a break from time to time,” Joshua replied. Rene bent down, picked up his suit jacket and helped him put it on.

“We were so happy at the hotel. Don't you see that you are happier when you are not at work?”

“Rene, stop,” Joshua said. “I have to go. I have no choice.” Rene growled in frustration.

“You are a prince for goodness sake. You can delegate the work to others, you don't have to do everything by yourself.”

“I can do whatever I want to do and how I want to do it,” he told her coldly.

“Do you even care about me at all?” she asked.

“Why do you have to make this about you? My work has nothing to do with you!” he shouted. That was the loudest he had ever raised his voice at her. He took a deep breath, “I have an important meeting to go to and you are delaying me. I need to go,” he said but this time he had lowered his tone.

“I know how this will end. I just thought… Just go, GO!” she shouted and turned away. She did not want to see his back again.

Joshua threw the doors open with so much force the frame splintered before he stormed out of her bedroom. She was hurt by his callous behaviour. It seemed as though he did not care about her and she was angry at herself for following someone she had only known for a short time.

She hated that she had fallen for him so quickly and now he was breaking her heart. She had not thought everything through. It should have been nothing more than a fling. Rene dropped to the floor and started sobbing.
