Joe Friel has coached endurance athletes since 1980, including runners, triathletes, duathletes, road cyclists, mountain bikers, swimmers, rowers, Nordic skiers, and endurance horse racers. These men and women ranged from novice to Olympian and included national champions, world-championship competitors, elite age-group athletes, and those who simply wanted to be in better shape, and have included teens, students, senior citizens, business owners, lawyers, doctors, line workers, and professional athletes. He has a master’s degree in exercise science and is a recognized authority on training for endurance sports, having written nine other books on the subject and serving as a columnist for two national sports publications for a decade. He is a widely sought-after speaker on the subject of training and consults with national sports governing bodies on the preparation of athletes for world competitions and the Olympics. Friel is also the founder and president of two successful businesses: TrainingBible Coaching, a sports training company with coaches in three countries; and TrainingPeaks.com, a World Wide Web-based business that provides training tools for athletes and coaches.
