“I’m glad all those people got a chance to see Archers Rest,” I said, “but I’ll be glad when they go home and it’s all quiet again.”
And then I heard a scream. Carrie came running over. “It’s a girl. Seven pounds, four ounces. Mother and daughter are doing fine.”
“And another quilter is born,” I said, and hugged Carrie. “Come by the shop tomorrow and we’ll finish Natalie’s baby quilt for her.”
“Deal. But it’s not the only quilt we’ll have to do quickly.”
“What do you mean?”
Carrie pointed toward Eleanor and Oliver, hugging tightly.
“Do you think?” I asked, but before she could answer I ran over.
Eleanor grabbed me. “I’m getting married,” she said.
“You asked her?” I looked to Oliver.
“She asked me.”
We hugged and cried and planned quilts for the next half hour, before Oliver and Eleanor headed back to the house to get ready for their pre-honeymoon trip to Paris. As I stood wiping the tears from my eyes, Jesse came up behind me.
“Everything okay?”
“Eleanor figured out who the ring was really for.”
“And?”
“I’m going to be a maid of honor soon.”
“What about being a bride? I know you think I’m scared, but . . .”
“One wedding at a time, Jesse.”
He laughed. “Okay. It would be too many wedding quilts to make all at once.”
“My thoughts exactly,” I said, settling into the arms of the man I loved, and surrounded by a town I loved almost as much. “But don’t get too comfortable. I’m going to start collecting fabric.”
