FOREWORD

There have been many books released on the subject of faith in the last twenty years. The Lord has been challenging the church in this area because “without faith it is impossible to please God.” There are still areas of unbelief in the church that must be challenged. Emerson Ferrell has always thought outside the book. He has been able to look at scripture and challenge us to think in a fresh way.

The Holy Spirit is our teacher. He is faithful to teach us the important truths we need to know in order to fulfill the will of God. He anoints men and women to minister and give the church knowledge and understanding. Emerson Ferrell has spent quality time praying and fasting to unlock the secrets of the word of God. This book is the fruit of that time spent. With the help of the Holy Spirit he has written a new book that will help the reader break free from the bondage of unbelief. Consider what he is saying, and the Lord will give you understanding in all things.

Emerson Ferrell has a desire to see the church walk in the supernatural. Signs and wonders are one of the marks of the apostolic calling. There are many who claim they believe without showing any proof. The problem is often with our way of thinking. Religious spirits affect the way we think. Jesus was not “religious” enough for the leaders of his generation. He was anointed. The anointing affected the way he thought and ministered. The same is true today.

Allow the anointing upon this book to challenge any thinking that is hindering you from walking in the fullness of power and authority. I pray that you will be released apostolically to do the greater works of Jesus Christ.

Apostle John Eckhardt

INTRODUCTION

The world has become a place of increasing uncertainty. It is rare to see a television newscast whose lead stories do not contain death and destruction. The appetite for increasingly sensational news is the diet of the world. The media is shaping the reality of the world, while maintaining that it reports the truth.

If there were one word in a universal vocabulary most frequently used to validate our behavior it is, “believe.” Most people commit themselves to a life style and “way of thinking” based on that word.

Each of us must determine the origin of our belief. In other words, are we influenced to believe according to someone else’s interpretation or our own? The answer to that question will require answering another question. If reality is the result of our belief what is the substance or source we use to determine that reality? The substance is the inner material, which forms the outer condition.

Our most important decisions are determined typically by information we believe or do not believe. The age in which we live is full of information. In fact, this century has been called the “information age” because of the variety of ways we are exposed to data.

Perhaps, no other word in the world is more critical to a Christian’s vocabulary than the word “believe.” Our beliefs influence our decision to pursue a structure or person. That is why the term “believer” predominately refers to Christians or other religious organizations.

One of the purposes of this book is to expose our minds to a new understanding of the word, “believe.” The Holy Spirit is capable of changing the common to the supernatural if we give Him free access to our preconceived ideas.

In the fifteenth century, people believed the world was flat. This belief instilled fear in all those who wanted to sail the oceans or explore new lands.

We are all guilty of building a belief system around false information. Thousands of Muslims believe they will not only go to heaven, but also be rewarded for killing those who do not share their belief. Terror grips the world because of this insane belief.

The world is looking for answers to solve this crisis without recognizing the consciousness it promotes will only create problems, not solve them. In other words, Adam’s sin has spread throughout mankind in the form of lawlessness and pride, which produces a consciousness of sin, sickness and death.

Belief in anything or anyone is one of the key dynamics in motivating, mobilizing and establishing groups of people throughout the earth. Another dynamic, which reinforces belief, is reward. It is common knowledge most people will change their belief if it does not satisfy their desires.

All Christians assume they believe “in” God. The Bible says something very important to consider in James.

You
believe
that there is one God. That’s fine! The
demons also believe
that, and they tremble with fear.

James 2:19 GW

Human Beings and demons alike are capable of believing. The big difference between demons and man is God causes demons to tremble. When is the last time we trembled at the knowledge of God?

This book is designed to change your hopes and dreams into reality. The power in believing God from a position of experience will alter your consciousness. You will become one with the word believe and faith in your life and vocabulary. Fear will no longer steal your faith and create doubt in your life. You are about to enter the transformation of your mind from theory to reality.

SECTION I

CENTERS OF BELIEF

CHAPTER 1

TO BELIEVE OR NOT TO BELIEVE?

The life you live today is the result of what you believe. The majority of the people who will read this book consider themselves to be Christians. But does your life demonstrate why your belief is superior to someone who does not believe in Jesus Christ?

My purpose in writing this book is to change the condition of your life. The first step in achieving this goal is to connect your believing with faith.

DEFINITIONS OF BELIEVE

Believe is defined in two different ways. The first describes how the Bible uses it, while the second is a secular definition and most commonly used by both Christians and non-Christians alike.

To accept as true or real, to credit with authenticity
; to have
firm faith
, especially religious faith; to have confidence, or trust; to have
confidence in the truth
; to regard (something) as true or real;
to trust
what one has seen or heard and to have an opinion; think.

• In popular use and familiar discourse, to
believe often expresses an opinion in a vague manner
, without a very exact estimate of evidence, noting a mere preponderance of opinion, and
is nearly equivalent to think or suppose.

In light of these definitions we all must evaluate our use of the word “believe” especially as it pertains to “faith confessions.” In Charismatic circles, many proclamations are made such as “I am believing for my healing, car, finances, wife…”

These kinds of “faith confessions” imply using our “words” of faith to manifest an earthly desire from the promises of God found in the Bible.

For example, someone may be taught to repeat the following scripture found in Psalms 37:4 that says,
I delight myself in the Lord and He gives me the desires of my heart.
If one repeats his prayer of petition reciting the above verse as support for his request, according to the “faith teachers,” that person is more likely to receive his requests.

The faith messages are very popular in most Charismatic and Pentecostal Churches. Below we will explore two different translations of the most common definition of faith in the Bible.

Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.

Hebrews 11:1 KJV

Faith assures us of things we expect and convinces us of the existence of things we cannot see.

Hebrews 11:1 GW

Most teachers make the distinction between Bible hope and secular hope. Bible hope implies assurance and confidence but the secular world uses hope with uncertainty and doubt. I think this is true.

Unfortunately, many in faith churches to maintain “a good confession,” use the word believing in context most identified with the secular definition (equivalent to think or suppose).

Most people “believe” for a tangible difference in their condition to occur after “making faith confessions.” If this does not happen they are taught not to make a “bad confession,” by saying anything contrary to the desired change.

If someone “believes” for a salary increase or healing without any results, that person is cautioned not to make a “bad confession.” In other words, it is considered a lack of faith or “bad confession” to comment about the lack of a physical manifestation.

If the condition has not changed, they are to continue to “believe” for the results they prayed for by “faith” and not to be persuaded by feelings or physical appearances. On the other hand, if or when the desired result occurs, they are to “believe” it was because of their “faith.”

The problem is the people are trained to focus on the visible world instead of the invisible. The invisible world is the home to faith and principles or formulas learned by the mind in the physical realm will not work there.

Jesus understood believing was the key to receive all things.

And all things, whatsoever ye shall ask in prayer,
believing
, ye shall receive.

Matthew 21:22 KJV

And all things, whatever you make request for in prayer, having faith, you will get.

Matthew 21:22 BBE

Whatever you ask for in prayer with
faith
, you will receive.

Matthew 21:22 NRSV

Believing with the mind and having faith from the spirit are two different things.
