Signing Their Rights Away (40 page)

The U.S. Constitution was written by fifty-five men in one hundred days. This book had just two authors, and thus it took much longer. We are indebted to quite a few people for making it happen. This book would not have been possible without the encouragement and thoughtfulness of our editor, Jason Rekulak, and his colleagues, who include David Borgenicht, Brett Cohen, Melissa Monachello, and Eric Smith. Copy editor Mary Ellen Wilson whipped the prose, “olde” and otherwise, into shape. Designer Katie Hatz created a beautiful volume and keepsake. We are honored to have Robert Carter’s amazing illustrations grace this volume. Lastly, we must thank our family, friends, and colleagues who patiently endured trips to graveyards, libraries, and historic sites or, worse yet, had to listen to overly enthusiastic verbal descriptions and view photos pertaining to those trips undertaken during the writing of this book. Though most of these people contributed in some way to this project and its predecessor, we are solely responsible for any errors and omissions. You may direct questions or comments to our website:
