“Let me look at you,” he said.

She began unzipping her flight suit. When she looked up she was surprised to see him looking at her face instead of her body.

“Tell me you accept my claim, that you are my woman,” Matek demanded.

She swallowed reflexively. Being told by some ruler she didn’t view as having authority that she belonged to Matek was one thing, but actually having him claim her was another thing entirely. She wanted to deny him, but couldn’t.

“I’m—I’m your woman.”

He pulled her into his arms. His mouth was close to her ear, and she could feel his warm breath on her neck, ruffling the strands of hair, tickling her. She heard his sharp inhalation, and it only fueled her desire.

He gripped her hips and buttocks with a violent passion that drew a gasp from her lips as he pressed her against him. He turned her head so that his lips found hers. As he kissed her he pushed the flight suit off her shoulders, and kept kissing her on the mouth, hard. He pulled the garment lower until it dropped to pool around her ankles.

Briz was having a hard time keeping her breathing steady. She wanted this. Her body came alive under his touch. All her nights of wondering what it would be like hadn’t prepared her for the reality of Matek.

He tweaked her nipples, and she cried out against his mouth. He pulled back, and her eyes fluttered open just in time for her to see him drop to his knees. His hands slid down her body, and she closed her eyes again.

The way his light touch tickled her, combined with his breath against her stomach, made her squirm. She’d never felt so alive before. Then he touched the apex of her thighs, and she flinched. She squeezed her thighs together.

“Shh, open for me,” he requested.

She felt heat fill her cheeks. When she slowly opened her legs heat pooled there too.

“So wet and beautiful,” Matek whispered. “You’re trembling. I will not hurt you.”

His fingers parted her intimately. The light touch was amazing. Forcing herself to be bold and just feel, she relaxed, a little, as his fingers heightened her desire. Those digits swirled in an amazing motion, and she stood on shaky legs.

He rose up again, his fingers doing all the work as his free arm supported her. If he hadn’t been holding her, she would have collapsed on the floor. Matek looked deeply into her eyes, and she forced herself not to look away.

She shivered as he pulled her close. His mouth dipped down to her right breast and he kissed her nipple reverently before drawing it into his mouth and sucking hard. He made every inch of her body feel adored.

She wasn’t afraid of him, but the new sensations were overwhelming. He knelt between her legs again, and when his mouth touched her intimately her eyes opened wide and she gaped at him, stunned. Pleasure soon replaced her shock, and she moaned. She bit her lip to keep herself from crying out as she watched his dark hair between her thighs. When he pulled back a disappointed gasp left her automatically.

She didn’t protest when he used his hands to guide her hips down so that she sat on the bed. He’d managed to navigate effortlessly.

“Lay back,” he said.

She obeyed, and Briz wasn’t the obeying type. Then he began using his mouth again in that wonderful way, and she let her mind focus on nothing outside of pleasure. Her body trembled with sensation. He made her feel wonderful.

Something built inside of her until she shattered. Her moans came out in a primal growl deep in her throat as she came for him. She was his, right down to her soul. She belonged to him more than she could even explain. That epiphany hit her just as she reached the most intense moment of orgasm.

She laid on the bed, panting, slightly confused by the intensity of what she’d experienced. When she’d come back down out of the stars and collected her scattered thoughts she sat up enough to lean on her elbow.

Matek stood, and she watched him strip. His erection was impressive. She didn’t know what to do. He stood next to where she sat on the bed. Raising her leg he kissed her instep. She lay back and looked up at him. His hands caressed her leg before he repeated the process with her other foot and leg. Matek hooked her knees over his shoulders and crawled onto the bed. She gazed up at him as he loomed over her. Her body was still contracting with little aftershocks from her earlier orgasm.

She cried out in pain when he entered her.

His eyes widened. “You’re innocent?”

A flush heated her face, and she turned away from him.

Matek turned her head to look up at him. “I am honored.”

His fingers worked their way between their bodies, and he caressed her clitoris. The wonderful sensation built again, and when he started to move inside of her the wonder grew until she was making mewling noises she couldn’t control. He never stopped caressing her, even as he pumped madly inside of her tightness.

When she shattered against him her passion was louder and more vibrant than anything she’d ever experienced. The pleasure burst into a kaleidoscope of perfection as she closed her eyes tightly. His groan joined her cries, and she kept coming until he collapsed beside her. Spent, she allowed him to take her in his arms and cradle her head against his damp chest. The fine, dark hair tickled her cheek as he breathed. She listened to his heartbeat.

“You are mine. I think I’m falling in love with you,” he said.

“Matek, we hardly know each other. I don’t need pretty lies. That was very nice.”

He made an unhappy sound deep in his throat. “I will never lie to you.”

She didn’t move. Happiness she couldn’t explain bubbled up inside of her. She didn’t know why, but she believed him.

Epilogue

The sky was such a wonderful blue. Pregnancy hormones made Briz feel everything more. Her mother said she was feeling like this because she was feeling with two hearts, but Briz knew the science behind her mood swings and was glad she’d be back to normal soon.

Her child was due in less than a month. She’d let her mother talk her into keeping the child within her body instead of having it incubated safely in a hospital. When she had trouble sleeping or moving she wished she’d just gone to the hospital during her third month of pregnancy like a sensible Metrician woman.

Matek and her father were arguing. The closer she came to her due date the more out-of-sorts the men in her life seemed. Guilt for her husband’s abandoned quest tormented her. She saw pain etched on his handsome face when he didn’t know she was watching. Matek claimed he’d given up on revenge, but she knew the desire was still aflame inside him.

“They worry for you. Your father almost lost me, and he’s afraid for you. Matek loves you very much and seeing you uncomfortable bothers him,” her mother said as they sat together in the prayer garden, watching the men.

She’d given into her mother and had started daily prayers again. If the ancestors really did bless those who remembered their names, she wanted her baby to have all the protection possible.

“I miss Xev. I wish he hadn’t decided he had to leave us,” Briz muttered.

“He feared for his life, but more so for us. The people who would kill him would not want witnesses. I miss him too. I’ll always be grateful to him for talking to his father and convincing him that letting Matek claim you would look much more benevolent than killing you both, basically committing genocide times two, on top of what was happening to the colonists. Paki had no idea how reviled he’d made himself across the coalition with his treatment of the Talorian people until his son told him.”

“Do you think the king was happy to see Xev alive?” Briz asked.

“I do. Losing you would be terrible. I’m sure Paki felt the same way when he thought his son was dead. I still hope Xev will come back one day, maybe once his father is dead and the threat is diminished.” She rubbed Briz’s belly. “You should go upstairs and rest. Don’t be foolish like I was while pregnant and overdo it.”

Briz started to rise, but before she could her husband was at her side, helping her up. They’d had a real wedding once her father had calmed down and they’d arrived safely back at Metricia. She’d discovered she was pregnant and knew it had happened during that wonderful first night.

She’d left home thinking she never wanted to marry and have a child and returned claimed and pregnant. Her mother must have really prayed hard to get her wish. Briz would never admit it, but she was glad. Belonging to Matek made her happier than anything, even piloting a new ship. When her child was old enough she’d be back to flying, but for now love kept her content to stay on the ground.

“How are you feeling? I wish I’d forced you to have our child incubated,” he grumbled.

“My mother would have ordered my father to murder you. I’ll be fine.”

Matek frowned. “I’ll feel better once we’re in the city, near the hospital.”

“Is that what you were fighting about with my father?”

“Yes. He wants to bring a doctor here, but I want you in the hospital.”

“My mother almost died in the hospital giving birth to me, and he’s been distrustful of them ever since. I agree with you. We’ll go, but I think we have at least another week before you should feel nervous.”

“You’re mine. I’ll worry.” His stubborn tone held a trace of grumpiness.

Briz chuckled. “I’m not even going to argue with you. I am yours.”

And she was. She might be a modern woman, but she was claimed by her pirate and no other fate would have made her this happy.

Chapter 1

Bones crunched beneath Angela Raden’s boots—whether they belonged to humans or clones she couldn’t be sure. The thick soles were designed to safely tread upon the two hundred degree terrain on Planet US-2, but now she had to wonder if they crushed the bodies of her fallen comrades. The last time she was on this hellish planet, Angela was beaten to the brink of death by savage rebels meant to make up the United States’ clone army. Now her mission was to bring back any survivors that might have escaped the wrath of the brutal rebels. This time around, Angela would die before she surrendered.

She glanced around the dry, red landscape and the ground shuddered beneath her feet. The low rumble could only mean one thing—a sand snake.

“Watch yourself,” a deep voice warned. Rogue, a seven foot tall beast of a man, pulled their mission captain, Elara Roberts, closer to his hard body. “They get hungry this time of day.”

Elara tipped her white cap up and glared up at the male, her auburn hair in a long braid down her back. “Watch where you put those hands, soldier.”

“I’ll put them where I please.” Rogue’s strong hands grabbed Elara’s ass and hauled her into his arms. She smiled brightly, the unfiltered happiness making Angela glance away.

The loving, passionate kiss that broke between them left a sour taste in Angela’s mouth. Rogue wasn’t just a man, but a clone. His company of rebels had taken over the ship Angela had been on for the first mission. His men killed everyone on board—except her and Elara. Rogue may have saved her life in the end, but Angela wouldn’t be thanking him any time soon.

Angela glanced toward the happy couple. “That’s enough. We need to find cover before the sand snake decides it’s lunch time.”

Rogue set Elara down begrudgingly, his fingers lingering on her curves as long as possible before they journeyed on. He pointed west. “In that direction there are some underground tunnels that will lead to some well shaded caves.”

“I know,” Angela grated. As the mission geologist, it was her job to know every nook and cranny of the planet, but she had a unique qualification for the mission at hand. It was why the US military had insisted she participate in this mission. Her qualification? She wanted revenge against the clones that had almost killed her.

She strode in the direction where she knew Rogue’s claims to be true. So far they’d been on the barren planet for two weeks, and instead of survivors, they’d found only the dried bones of the humans that had inhabited the planet.
