Second Sight (18 page)

Chapter 34

Three days later, Zach sat in the porch swing on the patio, sipping beers with Ella as she watched the sun set. Savannah laid at their feet, quietly snoring.

After Joe left, Ella had been very upset, and he’d decided he couldn’t do anything for her except hold her. She’d needed to work through her feelings by herself.

The next day, she’d said she felt better, and today, she seemed to be back to normal. They’d shared a quiet day reading, Ella interrupting his book a few times to tell him about hers. She loved to share her knowledge.

Although he had thought of little else but taking her to the bedroom and getting her naked, he kept his distance, figuring that when she felt up to it, she’d let him know. He’d seen them in the mirror this morning, their naked bodies tangled up on the bed in complete bliss, and he hoped it happened sooner rather than later.

“I wish you could see it,” she said, her voice quiet. “It’s beautiful, all the reds and pinks … just gorgeous.”

He smiled, recalling the sunsets he’d watched when he’d had his sight, and a little twinge of sadness crept in. It had always been his favorite time of day, no matter where in the world he had been, and he missed it.

Suddenly, she gasped.

“What’s wrong?” he asked, his heart skipping a beat.

“There’s a … oh my God … it looks like there are whales out there!”

He relaxed, and smiled at the excitement in her voice.

“I need to go get the binoculars,” she said as she ran inside.

A moment later, she came back and stood almost in front of him, her body partially blocking the sun from his face. If he reached out, he knew he’d grab a handful of that fine ass of hers.

“I was right. Those are grey whales.”

He acknowledged she spoke, but he still thought about her butt.

“Grey whales live off Alaska, but migrate to the coast of Mexico for the winter. They like to breed in the warmer waters. They populate the Korean waters, as well.”

Uh-oh. Ella was educating him.

“They have these parasites and other organisms living on them, so it looks like they have crusty rocks all over. They are one of the world’s longest migrators, with their round trip being over twelve-thousand miles. Can you imagine that? It looks like we can see a pod of three, but maybe four,” she added in a murmur. “They are so huge, like the size of a bus.”

He tried to ignore his body’s reaction to her lecture, but he couldn’t. His cock engorged, and he shifted in his seat. He loved it when she rambled on about things, the sound of facts spilling from her lips as intoxicating to him as fine wine.

“They were once in danger of becoming extinct,” she continued. “Thankfully, they were put on the endangered species list here in the United States. They’ve repopulated nicely, though, and I believe they were removed from the list in 1994, but I could be wrong about that. It may have been 1995.”

Okay, game over for him.

He reached out with his good arm, grabbed a handful of her butt, just as he thought he would, then snaked his arm around her waist, pulling her down on top of him, bruised thigh be damned. His lips immediately found her shoulder and neck.

“Zach!” She laughed. “Where did this come from?”

He chuckled, pushing his hips upward. “Does it matter? You know I love it when you talk dirty to me, telling me all sorts of facts the average person doesn’t know.”

She sighed and leaned her head back against him as he continued to pepper her neck with slow kisses.

“My original plan was to keep my distance from you, but you make that impossible,” he whispered.

“Really?”

“Yes. Nothing turns me on more than a smart girl. You know that.”

She tried to get up, but he held on tight. She wouldn’t be going anywhere anytime soon.

“Let me up, silly.”

He reluctantly let go, but became pleasantly surprised as she straddled him, her arms lacing around his neck.

“So I caused this?” she asked, grounding her hips into his erection.

He groaned. “Yes. Yes, you did.”

“Talking about whales?”

She kissed him deeply, and he sighed at the taste of cold beer as she pressed her chest into his, feeling her hard nipples through her thin shirt. He snaked his good hand up her back and lust tore through him when he realized the little vixen didn’t wear a bra.

Cupping her breast, he squeezed it gently, and he placed his hand over Ella’s heart, feeling it beat wildly below his palm.

She kissed him for a few more minutes, running her fingers through his hair, her hands slowly tracing down his biceps and over his chest, carefully avoiding his wound. His erection grew painful, the need for release agonizing.

He broke their kiss. “Are you going to screw me here, or somewhere else?”

She laughed. “You want it that bad, huh?”

He shook his head, dead serious. “No, Ella, I
need
it. I need
you
that bad.”

She got off him and took his hand. “Well, then, we better take care of business.”

As she led him through the house and up the stairs, Zach smiled at his fortune. When he’d first met Ella, he never in a million years would have seen them together.

She pulled off his shirt as he scrambled to get his pants out of the way. Moments later, they lay on the bed, moving together in perfect harmony.

He could only hope his visions in the mirror, his second sight, held many more moments as perfect as this for them.
