Fortunately she completely ignored me. “I’m also not very involved in the bdsm community right now, which you are. So what I want you to do is to start researching other products we could carry, especially puppy play, floggers, corsets…that kind of thing.” She seemed embarrassed, which surprised me. I had taken her for the kind of person who would chatter away about any topic with no boundaries at all.

I stared at her for a minute. What I really wanted to say was, “Are you sure?” and point out that the younger people would be better at surfing the net than I was, assuming they didn’t spend all their time browsing porn or playing games or whatever kids do online.

Instead I took a deep breath and forced myself to say, “That’s great. I’d love to.” After all, both Sir and sage knew about computers. They’d be able to help me.

When I got home, the two of them were in the living room. They both jumped a little and looked at me with identical “surprised innocence” expressions when I walked in. I was immediately suspicious, but too keyed up by my new job duties to spend much time thinking about it. I made a move to remove my clothes, but Sir stopped me.

“We have other plans tonight,” he said. “But tell us your news before you explode.”

I wasn’t exactly sure how he knew I had something to say, but Sir always had a way of reading my mind.

“Guess what I get to do?” I said, pretending to puff up my chest in pride. Their guilty looks changed simultaneously to curiosity. Really, sometimes I would suspect they were actually twins separated at birth if that wouldn’t have made it incredibly disgusting to watch them have sex.

“What?” sage asked, interested.

“I get to research products for us to carry in the store.” I couldn’t help feeling a little proud of myself, even though I still wasn’t sure I could handle the assignment.

Sir’s eyebrows went up. “Really?”

I wondered if he was considering, like me, whether I would flop at it, and my spirits went down a little. I gave him a helpless-little-girl look through my eyelashes and said, “Sir, can you show me how to do that?”

sage rolled her eyes a little, but Sir laughed and squeezed my shoulders. “You won’t have any problems with it, but yes, I’ll get you started,” he said. “Now go do whatever you need to do to get ready to go out.”

I looked between him and sage in surprise, but she gave me an enigmatic smile. “You don’t need to change,” she told me, picking up a bag I hadn’t noticed on the floor and patting it. “I’ve got everything you need.”

I didn’t think it was a normal dungeon night, but I suspected that was where we were going. We stopped to eat first, and I told them all about the store, Debi and Tina, how I wasn’t sure I was going to get along with them, and the funny things Geri did. I felt a little guilty about it, but I suspected a lot of her quirks were for the purpose of being noticed and talked about, so I thought she probably wouldn’t mind too much.

I tried all the way to The Keyhole to coax Sir into telling me what was going on, but he shook his head and smiled. When we got to the club, there were only a few cars outside, so it definitely didn’t look like a normal night. sage carried a large bag, which she pushed into my hands as soon as we got in the door.

“These are for you.”

Sir nodded when I looked at him, so I took the bag into the bathroom and opened it to find all the puppy gear I’d collected over the last couple of months: ears, tail, knee pads, “paw” gloves, as well as a see-through beige bodysuit that sage must have bought. I put it all on and looked in the mirror appraisingly. It might have been a little vain of me, so I would never have said it in front of sage, but I really looked good in my puppy gear. Not that she had any interest in puppy play, but I knew she was sensitive about being a little heavier than me. I tried not to talk about clothes or sizes or anything like that around her. She was certainly pretty, with her thick dark hair and almost black eyes, and definitely much more intelligent than me. But she seemed to have an inferiority complex about not being tall, blond, and skinny. I know those are supposed to be the perfect traits, but anyone who is tall, blond, and skinny can tell you that’s not the only thing you need to be happy in life. There are thousands of gorgeous blond actresses who have learned that it takes a lot more than that for success. sage had a lot going for her, including looks, but she just didn’t seem to believe me when I tried to tell her that.

When I came out, I stopped at the doorway to the dungeon and saw that the whole room had been taken over by puppies. The floor was covered with foam padding and there were stuffed toys and cushions everywhere. The puppies were rolling balls back and forth with their noses, tossing them in the air, playing tug of war with rope toys, and bouncing around sniffing and pawing each other. As I looked closer I realized it wasn’t just puppies. There were kitties too, judging by the meowing, and what must have been a bird in the corner. She had a red bodysuit with wings made of bright multicolored feathers edged in purple. She flapped her arms and pretended to be terrified of the human kitties that were prancing around and trying to play with her, or stalking her with their bodies low to the ground, arms and legs moving in ultra-slow, focused motions that the bird and I both watched in amazement. I gave a huge sigh. I was home.

I glanced at Sir, who stood next to me, looking amused. sage was in her normal place at his left elbow, hands clasped behind her back, waiting for instructions. They both still wore street clothes. Surprisingly I felt a little self-conscious about my puppy gear, which I had never worn in public before. But the excitement at being in a room full of human pets was just too much for me to worry about it.

Sir nodded at me. “Go on,” he said, “and be sure to play nice. Puppies and kitties don’t always mix well. I’ll be right here on the side, but I want you to have a chance to interact and get acquainted.”

I only hesitated a split second. I dropped to all fours, rubbed my face against his knee to thank him and, after he bent down and patted my head, scampered into the play space.

Chapter 3

It was sheer heaven. Several of the other puppies, none of whom I had met before, came trotting over on their knee pads and mittens. We sniffed each other and got up on our hind legs to bat playfully with our front paws. When one of them tried to get his front legs onto my back in a show of being dominant, I knocked him off and turned away, glancing toward Sir to see if he was going to react. I had to admit it was something a real dog would do, so I wasn’t terribly offended, but I just didn’t want to go there, especially with Sir watching. If he interpreted it as humping and decided this was turning into a sexual playtime, he might not let me come back, and I really, really wanted to do this again. My thoughts were fortunately interrupted by being hit in the head with a soft plush ball that someone had thrown. I gratefully allowed myself to sink into puppy space. I tossed it back and then chased it myself, mock-fighting with the pup who’d thrown it and wrestling with some of the others in greeting.

I saw Sir sitting off to the side of the dungeon, chatting with some of the other trainers. sage was on a cushion between his feet, her top unbuttoned. It looked like Sir was stroking her breasts. Whatever he was doing, she was certainly enjoying it. Her head was tilted back and she had a dreamy smile on her face as his hand moved slowly over her chest, occasionally stopping to pinch a nipple, making her gasp.

I went back to playing, pushing thoughts to the back of my mind. It wasn’t that I didn’t want to think about them, but it wasn’t time to think at all. It was playtime, and I was a puppy. Puppies don’t analyze human relationships or wonder who Master’s favorite is; they just play. I was starting to get really good at ignoring my human thoughts when I was in puppy space. sage called it a form of meditation, and she might have been right. I was beginning to notice that whenever I came out of puppy space, my head always felt a lot clearer, like I had cleaned a lot of the junk out.

I saw that someone had set up what kind of looked like an obstacle course at one end of the room, so I headed over to check it out. There were hanging things to bump with your nose or your head, baskets with balls to toss into them, and stuffed animals for tug-of-war. I didn’t think I could bring myself to pick up the toys with my mouth, although I made a mental note to bring my own clean toys next time. There was even a maze set up and even some tunnels and ramps like they have in real agility training. Allen and Tim, a Daddy/boy couple that we knew from the club, were doing some kind of training off to the side. Allen, the Daddy, would give a hand signal and Tim, the puppy/boy, would run off and do one of the events in the obstacle course, then come back and sit in front of his Daddy, waiting for a reward. Allen would lean over to rub his head and put some kind of treat into his mouth, then stand up and give him another hand signal.

I sat and watched them, a small group of pups gathering around to join me. As silly as it might sound, we were captivated by the communication between them and the fun they seemed to have. Allen held a treat up high, and Tim obediently lifted himself on to his knees, hands bent in front of him, and danced and hopped a little trying to get it. It was very cute. I had a vague, doggy image of me and Sir having long training sessions, full of clever tricks and lots of treats. Allen let the food fall into Tim’s mouth, and they both dropped to the floor and rolled around. Allen said, “Who’s a good boy, then? Are you a good boy?” while Tim rubbed his face all over Allen’s head and chest and wiggled his rump to make his butt-plug tail wag.

Another puppy nudged my shoulder. I turned and saw Kylie, another submissive that I knew, bouncing in the direction of the tunnels and ramps, obviously wanting to challenge me to a race, or maybe a chase. I jumped up and took off after her, both of us giggling in what was our equivalent of tongues lolling, and we ran as quickly as we could on all fours through the tunnels and up and down the ramps. Kylie knocked me off one of the ramps into a bean bag sitting next to it, so I jumped up and chased her through the tunnel, pretending to snap at her legs from behind. When we emerged, she ran to the swinging ball and knocked it toward me, so I whacked it back and we batted it around with our heads until I started getting dizzy. I bumped her hip with my shoulder to show I was done playing, and went to find a nice soft pillow to curl up on for a minute.

When I did, I looked over at Sir and sage. They were deep in conversation this time, and sage looked excited. I wondered what they were talking about, but I wasn’t ready for human thought again, so I turned to watch the other animals playing some more. The bird was flapping her way across the room now, squawking loudly, three cats hot on her tail. A bark escaped my throat, and I scrambled to go after the group, slightly surprised at my own excitement but not taking the time to analyze it. When the bird got to the obstacle course, with the rest of us close behind her, she did a quite impressive jump for someone in so elaborate a costume and landed on top of a table, where she tried to poke us in the eyes with her feathers. I was turning my attention from her to the kitties when I heard Sir call my name sharply. My head snapped around, and I huffed indignantly before vaguely remembering his warning from before about playing with kitties. I ducked my head and shifted my attention back to the puppies.

After some more frisking and rolling around, I dropped to the floor and lay there, panting a little. I was still in puppy space but the small human part of my brain wondered what it was about us that made us love pretending we were animals. There was something about putting on ears and tails and clamoring around on all fours that somehow satisfied something inside.

Sir was leaning over me, stroking my side and shoulder, and I realized I had dozed off. He let me lie still for a minute, coming back to myself, before he helped me out of the knee pads and mittens and other puppy gear. In some ways this was the best part of the experience, when Sir lovingly pulled off the equipment and massaged my legs and hands. I reluctantly allowed myself to turn back into a human as he ran his warm hands all over me, sensually but not quite sexually. I luxuriated in his touch, rolling to one side and then the other to encourage him not to miss anything. Before I was quite ready, he laughed and held out a hand, his sign for me to get to my feet. I sighed, knowing the evening was over, and followed him and sage out of the dungeon.

She handed me the bag again, and I went back to the bathroom to change into my normal clothes, feeling a little sad.

Six months ago I would never even have dreamed of putting on puppy ears, except maybe as a Halloween costume. But I had been forced to be a puppy for a day, and from then on I was completely hooked. I had worried about what Sir would think about this new fetish of mine, but he actually enjoyed watching me prance around, and he had bought me the outfit and some toys. Even sage made me cookies shaped like dog bones on weekends when Sir planned to let me indulge in puppy time.

As we walked to the car, I was struck by a brilliant idea. I turned to sage. “I know what you need to do!”

sage looked at me in surprise and even Sir’s eyebrows went up. They stopped next to the car, waiting.

“You need to package those dog biscuits you make,” I said excitedly, “and we can sell them at the store!”

I watched as the idea sunk in with both of them. sage looked a little dubious, but Sir’s face was thoughtful. Neither said anything, and they both slowly got into the car, considering.

sage and I usually took turns sitting in the front. She had let me sit there on the way to The Keyhole, so I climbed into the back now. It had taken me a little while to get used to trading off. For a long time I had been in the habit of thinking of myself as Sir’s only girlfriend as well as his slave, and it kind of bugged me at first to have to sit in the back seat. But I was getting used to it, and tonight I wanted to stretch out and relax on the way home anyway.
