Remus (18 page)

Jenna cried against his chest and held him close. They hadn’t gotten them all. Agatha had meant what she said, and Jenna knew it wasn’t over. She would stop at nothing to hunt them down.

Chapter Eighteen

Rem walked into the briefing room, trailed by Magnus, Nyx, Jenna and a couple of Magnus’s people. He’d had time to think over what he wanted to explain and what he wanted to keep to himself. Titus, Major Carter and several of the other lodge hybrids sat around the main conference table, waiting patiently.

Gods and demi-gods. That’s what Harold had claimed, but Rem still wasn’t sure what the truth was himself. It felt right, when he was being honest with himself, but feeling wasn’t the same thing as knowing. He was certain if he related the gods story to Titus, the Luna Lodge alpha would laugh in his face and accuse him of playing games.

Rem felt the truth. He’d felt the stone with the essence of Atlas. Hell, it was part of him now, it seemed like. No, the Luna Lodge hybrids weren’t ready for the truth, at least not from him. They had the book now, and they could slowly decode the truth from that with time.

He’d gone back to the Horatius Group to get the book. Titus may have been an ally, but Rem still needed to be careful, and being careful meant making sure he had advantages over the other man.

He suppressed a grin. He’d give Luna Lodge what they needed to know to help defend themselves, and he’d give them the book. The rest he’d keep to himself for the moment. For now, they mainly needed to know about Agatha and the Inner Circle.

As all the new arrivals took seats, Titus nodded.

“Let’s get started,” he said.

* * *

Jenna leaned back on a couch in the corner of the room. It was the first time she’d been there since the gates came down, and the whole experience felt strange. It was like she’d never really been a part of the place to begin with. Things had carried on just like normal whether she was there or not.

It was nice having some glasses. She glanced over to her uncle, who had not only thought to bring them, but had been raising hell since she left him. Jenna smiled. He always had her back, even when she didn’t know it.

Her gaze wandered around the room. Magnus looked nervous, despite the small number of hybrids in the room. For now it was just a few of the Luna hybrid leaders—Titus, Sol and Lucius—asking the questions.

Jenna continued her sweep of the room, her attention landing on Nyx. Since they had split in the clearing, the other hybrid had been quiet and reserved.

She still couldn’t quite figure out why Nero had decided to show, and, even more so, that he had fought alongside them. Neither of the women had spoken about it, and Jenna just assumed that his assistance hadn’t meant as much as she thought since he clearly didn’t decide to go back with them. She couldn’t see much during the fight without her glasses, but he’d obviously saved her.

“And what about this Nero?” Titus said, as if reading Jenna’s thoughts.

Nyx looked over to her and shook her head lightly. Jenna frowned. She didn’t like keeping things from the others.

“He escaped,” Rem said from beside her.

She looked over at him and smiled. He had to have seen their exchange. She couldn’t really say why Rem did the things he did, but in this case, she was just going to be glad that it wouldn’t ruin the friendship she had started.

Besides, maybe Titus and the others couldn’t pick up on it, but during the questioning, she was sure Rem had held back a few times. Maybe it was her Vestal connection to him, or maybe she just knew him well enough.

Among other things, she noticed that he failed to mention his new tattoos. She didn’t quite understand the full significance herself.

Rem had explained to Titus that Magnus and his people were from a different project, but was otherwise short on details.

Titus nodded and scrubbed a hand over his face.

“What about Agatha?” he said.

“She escaped as well,” Rem said calmly.

Jenna trembled as she thought about the evil and calculating woman.

“She’ll be back,” Jenna said quietly and looked around the room. “She’ll be out for vengeance, and it’s all my fault.”

A tall, muscular man with long black hair looked over at her. His bright blue tattoos glowed a little as he spoke.

“If she seeks vengeance on you, she does it against us all,” he said. “We will protect you.”

Jenna blushed and looked away.

Titus pulled the thick book from the table and looked at the dark blue cover. They watched silently as he flipped through.

“Do you have any clue what it means?” he asked.

No one said anything. Jenna thought about history shows and the experts they interviewed.

“We need a linguist or something,” she said. “It’s all about breaking the code.”

Titus shook his head. “They would have to be someone we trusted,” he said. “Who knows what this books says about us? If someone translated it and then published it, well, we might not see next year.”

She sighed. He was right, but she had hoped to contribute somehow.

“Well,” Titus said and placed the book back on his desk. “I guess we should get to the important matters. I have secured the land and cabins you requested.”

Rem nodded, his eyes refusing to meet hers.

“Good,” he said and shifted forward. “It’s imperative that we leave as quickly as possible, especially now that Agatha and the Inner Circle are involved.”

“Now that we understand a little more about how the Horatius Group works,” Titus said, “that’s an advantage. We’ve taken the fight to them and seriously hurt them for once and killed at least some of their leadership, even if it wasn’t the top levels.”

Titus’s voice seem to grow distant as Jenna shifted in her seat, and her thoughts went back to Rem’s words. Leave? Leave to where? Why hadn’t he talked to her about this? She stared hard at the man she thought she knew well.

“All the more reason for me to leave,” he said. “If we’re less concentrated together, they’ll concentrate fewer resources on us individually.”

“You know you don’t have to leave,” Titus said and stared hard at him.

Her heart thumped in her chest as she waited for him to answer. She thought they were just starting to build something.

“And you know we can’t stay,” Rem said.

She felt the tears well in her eyes. Her throat clogged, and for a moment, she just couldn’t breathe.

“I…” she said. She stood. Rem tried to take her hand, but she shook him off. “I need to go.”

Jenna fled from the room and outside to her truck. She placed her head in her hands and let the tears fall.

All of these feelings, and he was just going to leave her? She just couldn’t understand.

She jumped when the driver door swung open to reveal Rem standing outside. Without saying a word, he scooted her over and sat in the seat. The truck roared to life, and she stared at him in shock as he drove out of the lot and down the road.

“What are you doing?” she said.

Rem glanced at her and then turned back to the road. The muscles in his jaw twitched.

After a few long moments of silence, she opened her mouth to speak but stopped at a familiar sight. They had pulled up outside the cottage she stayed in when she had been staying at the lodge.

He climbed out of the truck and slammed the door behind him. She jumped.

When he came to her side of the truck and opened the door, Jenna found her temper.

“I don’t know what’s—” she said.

Jenna yelped as Rem reached in the truck and slung her over his shoulder. He stomped over to her house as she struggled to get free. He reached the door, and she twisted hard. This time she was nearly free before Rem smacked her on the rear.

“Stay still,” he commanded.

She blushed as her folds became slick with her need for him. Jenna cursed herself for being so weak when it came to him.

Rem pushed open the door. When it was closed behind him, he placed her down hard on the floor.

“I can’t believe—” she began.

He sealed her mouth with a hard kiss, his mouth demanding against her. She moaned when his tongue slipped into her mouth and pulled him closer to her. The muscles beneath her hand twitched as she moved along the soft t-shirt.

Jenna pulled away, nearly out of breath, and glared at him.

“What’s the point?” she nearly shouted. “You’re going to move and leave me behind.”

Rem stared at her for a moment.

“Is that what you want?” he said.

“What?”

Rem rumbled and pressed her hard against the door. “Do you want me to go away and leave you behind?”

She just gaped at him, her mind not really working like before. It didn’t really matter what she wanted.

Jenna turned her head, and he nibbled her bottom lip.

She hissed when his mouth ran down her neck.

“Come with me,” he whispered.

She turned to look at him, still not quite sure he had said what she thought he had.

“What?” she whispered back to him.

Rem stopped kissing her sensitive neck and looked back at her face.

“I need you with me,” he said and kissed her mouth again. “Come with us.”

“I…” It was all so fast. Jenna didn’t even know how to respond. “My uncle,” she said quietly. “I can’t just leave him.”

Rem grinned at her.

“Then bring him,” he said.

Jenna took in a shaky breath. “Yes.”

The word had barely left her mouth before he was pulling at her clothing. He all but ripped off her clothes until she was naked. Jenna pulled his shirt off and tossed it to the side. She leaned forward and traced the blue pattern with her mouth.

“Jenna,” he moaned. His fingers gripped her hard. She sat up and placed a hand on the button of his pants. Under she could feel his hard cock. Jenna rubbed her hand over the hardness and smiled when he moaned.

She got to her knees and unsnapped the button. His hard length sprang out. and she stared up at him. She traced her tongue along the thick vein on the underside. Rem placed his hands in her hair and slowly worked himself in and out of her mouth.

Jenna worked her tongue around him, snaking along the sides.

“Jenna,” he growled and tried to pull her back.

She huffed and pressed closer into him.

In one swift moment, Rem was out of her mouth, and she was leaning over the back of the couch. His cock rubbed against her center, still warm from her mouth.

She cried out as he pressed into her with one hard stroke. Her inner walls squeezed as he started to pump into her.

As he pushed in and out of her, Jenna reached down to rub her aching clit. Her fingers slipped over his shaft as he continued to press into her.

“Rem,” she moaned.

His fingers gripped her hips hard, but his movements were as controlled as they were powerful.

Jenna pressed back against him hard as he moved, each time pushing him further and further inside her.

“Jenna,” he hissed and tried to pull away but stopped when her fingers slipped around his aching cock.

“More,” she moaned. “Fuck me more.”

His blood heated at her urging touch.

He pushed up into her hard. Jenna moaned loudly.

Ignoring the burning, Rem slammed up into her, his hard cock deep inside her. He pulled her hard against him, his cock still buried deep.

When Jenna started pushing back, he could feel his resolve slip. Slamming himself hard up into her, Rem closed his eyes. The sound of hot flesh slapping together filled the air.

Her insides started to quake around him.

“Come,” she whispered.

Her forceful words pulled him over the edge.

Rem panted as he released deep inside her.

He wrapped his arms around her and kissed the tender spots on her back.

Jenna pulled away and turned to look at him.

“Just a little more each time,” she whispered.

Rem grunted and turned the other way. He turned away quickly.

“So just to be sure,” he said and looked back to her. “You are coming with us?”

Jenna grinned and nodded.

“Together,” she whispered. “Always.”

Rem kissed her hard. As long as he had the woman he loved, he could overcome anything, even the entire Horatius Group.

Author Bio

Madison currently lives with her husband and two children in the Valley of the Sun in Arizona. After leaving the frozen tundra of the north, she was more surprised than anyone with how much she has enjoyed living in the desert. Seeing as she stated on more than one occasion before moving to Arizona how much she hated heat, it was an odd move, but it seems her hatred for sub-zero temperatures and ice has won out in the end.
