Redemption Song (40 page)

So Ethan met Alaina’s eyes once more, and she nodded, understanding that their time was up. But there were something else in her eyes to accompany that, and it made both of them smile because they both understood that, this time, they weren’t parting to a future of ill feelings and depressing uncertainty. Their future, however unclear, seemed bright and welcoming with an array of endless possibilities. And as Alaina turned, rolling her dark purple suitcase toward the door of the terminal, only one parting phrase seemed appropriate.

“See you later, Ali.”

Alaina paused at the edge of the doorway, the air blowing her dark hair as she turned and flashed a smile that would remain etched in Ethan’s mind until he was able to see her again.

“See ya later, superstar.”

Acknowledgements

I would first like to thank God for the abilities He has given me to do the things I love and desire to do. I am so blessed to be given the opportunity to use these gifts to share His word with the rest of the world. My prayer is that this novel has, in some way, encouraged you or lifted you up to a stronger relationship with your Savior.

To my husband. Thank you for all of those times you helped me with the kids and took care of the house so that I could write. Also, for those countless conversations where I ramble on and on about the business of writing and publishing and you pretend to be insanely fascinated, even though I know it’s not your thing. Thank you for your love and support as I pursue dreams of my own. I hope this novel makes you proud.

To my mom. Thank you for your encouragement and your eagle-eye editing skills. I can’t imagine completing a novel without your help. Thank you for reading and rereading this novel over and over without ever losing your original enthusiasm.

To my sister. Thanks for your awesome musical guidance in creating the trailer to accompany this book. Love you.

To the women at my church. You guys are my lights on dark days. Your smiles and encouraging words spur me to be a better person in Christ. I thank you for all of your words of support and for test-driving this novel for me.

To my students. To all of those unnamed faces that inspired the characters in this story. You are so special whether you believe it or not. Know that God has a plan for you. I pray you grab hold of him and never let go. I promise; it will be a wild ride.
