Oryon (Tornians Book 3.5) (13 page)

For several long moments Oryon just watched her, then he held out his hand, waiting.

Isis handed him the vial.

Oryon stood, then walked over to the fire. He tightly gripped the mantle with one hand while the other fisted the vial. “My vow.” He Looked at her with hard eyes. “But I demand your vow in return. If it
is
the will of the Goddess that you conceive, then you will immediately see Healer Asa and the Healer Rebecca. You will do whatever they tell you. No matter what! I cannot lose you Isis!”

Isis opened her mouth to argue, then realized she could not. She would be demanding the same thing if somehow the situation was reversed.

“My vow.” She crossed the room to his side. “And you will
never
lose me, because I will always be here,” she said placing her hand over his heart.

Covering her hand with his, Oryon threw the vial into the fire and placed their future into the hands of the Goddess and prayed she would be merciful.

Epilogue

“Are you going to be?” The whispered words, so close to her ear sent a shiver of excitement through the Goddess as her mate’s arms encircled her, pulling her back against his hard frame.

“Going to be what?” she asked softly sinking into his embrace.

“Be merciful.” Kissing her shoulder, he looked down at the couple she had been watching so intently. “They have always been two of your favorites.”

“Yes, they have been, and yes, I’m going to be. Perhaps more so than either expects.” The Goddess smiled as the idea grew. “Oh yes, I’m going to be
very
merciful.”

“Hmm, well I think you should show
your
mate some mercy first. Come
rest
with me my love,” he coaxed, and laughing the Goddess allowed herself to be led away.
