Austin could not have been more proud of the boy. While he wasn’t Austin’s blood, he was beginning to feel like his son. And it felt damn fine to share his knowledge with someone, just like a shifter Alpha was supposed to. Marcus would be a great shifter one day and Austin was honored and excited to do his part in the name of that.
And then there was Dahlia. The light of his life. She fit into his embrace like she was made to be there, and their conversations kept winding on and on for hours without either of them boring of them. If anything, Austin could have been complaining about the lack of sleep he was getting – damn hard catching a wink when he can’t seem to think of anything other than fucking or talking with his mate! A happy problem to have.
That lovely sound of her laughter still filling the room, Austin went for another kiss. This time, he let himself linger on her lips, tasting her sweet mouth. She made him crave her with the slightest bat of her long lashes and the simplest things, like a glance thrown over her shoulder, or the way she looked right after she got up. Now, kissing her, he was a man fighting a losing battle against desire right away.
But something stopped him from going further. It wasn’t the fact that they were setting up Dahlia’s new workspace at Danni’s parlor. It wasn’t even that it might have been a bit difficult to hide their ravenous noises. It was her scent.
With a frown, Austin pulled back, standing up straight. He whiffed the air around her and Dahlia watched him with a curious glint in her eyes. She was smirking a little, like she knew something that he didn’t.
“That smell,” he started, his brow furrowing. “What is it? Is that…”
Austin trailed off, his eyes growing wide and the soft gold of his shifter flashing through his eyes. Dahlia bit her lower lip and nodded slightly, holding her breath.
“Yes,” she confirmed, without Austin even having to ask.
“You’re pregnant!?” he whooped, smiling deliriously.
“I am! At least, I think so. I feel the same way as I did with Marcus… And I know you were cats can smell it. I didn’t dare go and confirm it before… before you thought it was happening too,” she confessed.
A moment later, Austin’s arms were around her, hugging her against his hard body. Tears prickled his eyes and he shook all over, his heart pounding in his chest like he was running a damn marathon. Finally, he was getting everything he had ever dreamed of. It felt amazing.
“I love you,” he whispered into Dahlia’s ear, his voice wavering.
“I love you too.”
And Austin had never spoken truer words.

He ripped the passenger side door open and jumped inside exactly when she managed to get the engine running. With one smooth move, he grabbed the keys, twisted them and plucked them out of the ignition.
“Hey! The hell do you think you’re doing! Give those back!” she demanded, trying to grab for the keys and only managing to lean into Royce’s still-damp body and make his convictions on not letting her go all the more strong.
He could see that she was trying to avoid his gaze, her brown eyes looking anywhere but straight at him. She still had hints of that scarlet blush that had tinted her chest, neck and cheeks when she’d run out of the bathroom like an Olympic athlete. Royce had to admit, she could have had a career as a runner if she could move that fast when faced with one little uncomfortable situation.
“I’m not giving those back before you calm the hell down and talk to me, girl,” he said, cringing at his choice of words. Still, he had to roll with it. Keeping his expression stern, he looked at her expectantly. “You want to explain to me where you were running off to?” he asked, his thick Boston accent laying in hard now that his heart was beating fast and adrenaline was coursing through his veins.
“I… It was a mistake, okay? I don’t belong here. This is ridiculous! We don’t know each other. I can’t marry you! It’s fraud! I have a business in Dallas that needs me and I’m here, straight across the country, playing house with a guy who could be a damn psycho for all I know!” she rattled off, every excuse making Royce grin wider.
He shook his head with a smirk, relaxing a bit as he put his hand behind the headrest of Tiana’s seat and leant in closer, until he was firmly in her personal space with no intention of getting out of it.
“Calm. Down. Take a breath. Breathe in, breathe out. We’re two grown-ups here. You walked in on me taking a shower. I get that you enjoyed the show- ah, let me finish!” he said, raising his other hand and putting a finger on her lips to shush her as she started protesting.
Fuck.
Not a good idea. Now the only thing he could think about was her sucking it into his mouth. Still, he kept it there for added effect.
