My Life With The Movie Star (20 page)

“How’s Dan holding up?” Grayson asked. Grayson and Dan had grown quite found of each other, despite Dave getting hurt due to the chaos of our past. I was glad that Grayson could mesh back in with my friends and that they were almost as quick to forgive him as I was.

“Tomorrow I have hair and makeup in the morning. Can you take care of yourself?” I asked.

“Of course I can, love. Not that taking care of myself is fun,” Grayson teased. “Do we have any time this weekend?”

“We have time after the wedding on Saturday night. Until then, I’m Lisa’s,” I said.

“I will enjoy any time we have together. I guess this will give me a chance to learn my lines for the next
Texas High
movie.”

“How many are they going to make?” I asked, surprised that they were starting work on the third one while still finishing the second.

“There are five books, but the last book is big. I will be in
Texas High
movies for the rest of my life it feels like,” Grayson said with a yawn.

As soon as we pulled into my drive, my cell phone started ringing off the hook: it was Lisa. I was sure something was not working out just as it should, and I would have to be the one to calm her down.

“Hey, Lisa,” I cut her off before she could spend hours telling me what the problem was. “Let me drop Grayson’s stuff off and get changed, and then we will be on our way to the rehearsal.”

“Please hurry! I’m having a panic attack!” Lisa shrieked.

“This is going to be a long forty-eight hours,” I moaned to Gray. “We should have gone on vacation instead of this. I swear, I am never getting married.”

“Never want to get married, huh?” Gray laughed and flashed me his sexy smile. “Never say never, love.”

We got dressed and rushed over to the church where the rehearsal was taking place. I was late, so Grayson dropped me off in front and went to park the car. I quickly found where everyone was. I had forgotten that Dave was a groomsman. I looked over at him, and he flashed me a quick smile.

“O
kay
, let’s get everyone paired up,” said the minister. “Who’s the maid of honor?”

“I am, sir,” I answered politely.

“Great. Who’s the best man?”

“I am,” Dave said.

Great, I thought to myself. How did I not know he was the best man? Had I forgotten to ask such an obvious question, or had Lisa fibbed the truth again? My guess was she had fibbed so that I wouldn’t be freaking out also.

“O
kay
, everyone else line up by height and let’s get moving on the rehearsal,” the minister barked at us.

I went to the back of the line with Lisa. Grayson had already come in and found a pew to sit in.

“You owe me,” I whispered to Lisa.

“You knew he was coming. It’s not like you have to walk down the aisle with him … just back up it,” she said.

All in all, I couldn’t be too mad at Lisa. She did what she did to protect me. The rehearsal went off without a hitch. The only uncomfortable part was when Dave walked me back up the aisle. He reminded me of the last promise he had made – that if Grayson ever left again, he would be more than happy to step in.

That night, I was wrapped up warm and cozy in Grayson’s arms. I loved feeling him wrapped around me. My room might be much smaller than his, but our life in Port seemed more real – less like a dream.

“I’m so happy right now,” I said as I rolled over to face him.

“I’m so happy too,” he said. “Abby, I love you. I hope you know that.”

“I love you too.” I snuggled into him again, thinking about how busy the next day was going to be, and fell asleep.

I woke up before the alarm went off and got up to make myself presentable enough to go and get my hair and makeup done.

Lisa was already at the salon before I got there. That must be a first.

“Hey, are you excited?” I asked.

“I feel like I’m going to hurl,” she said.

“Everything will be fine. Don’t worry about anything,” I said in my most reassuring voice.

“Is Grayson having a good time?” Lisa asked “Does he mind Dave?”

“Why would he mind Dave? Nothing happened between us,” I stated.

“It obvious that Dave likes you. I just wondered if that made Gray a bit more jealous?”

“Gray has nothing to be jealous of,” I said. “Now let’s change the subject. I’m just so happy to have Grayson here with me I couldn’t care less about anyone else.”

“Do you think he’s going to ask you to marry him?” Lisa asked.

“Lisa, I’m not even going to worry about that now. I have no idea, and I’m not going to push him into that. We have a great bicoastal life at the moment. We’re having so much fun, and we have plenty of time to settle down.”

Thanks goodness Lisa’s hair dresser was ready for her. I expected such leading questions from my parents, but not from Lisa. I guess it’s true what they say about married people; they want everyone else to get married too.

After our hair and makeup was finished, I raced home to pick up Grayson. He was dressed in a sexy suit and had done his hair like Scott’s.

“I love it when you have Scott-hair,” I teased, knowing he hated it that way but did it for special occasions because he always got so many compliments.

“You look beautiful too love,” Gray said. “Your dress is actually quite lovely -, not like some of the bridesmaid dresses I have seen in the past.”

He was right; Lisa had picked out a cocktail length black dresses. They always tell you that you’ll wear the dress again, but this time I knew I would. I loved the dress, and it made my boobs look fabulous.

The ceremony was, of course, beautiful. I felt tears well up when they were pronounced husband and wife. I got to climb into the limo for a ride over to the reception hall.
Grayson would join us over in a bit. This gave me a few seconds to talk to Dave.

“Did you get the job in Atlanta?” I asked.

“No, I didn’t. That’s
okay
; I have had some other things come my way.” He smiled at me to let me know it was still
okay
. “You do owe me a dance.”

“Of course I do. The maid of honor always has to dance with the best man,” I replied.

“How are things with the movie star?” Dave asked and made a horrible face when he said the word “star.”

“Grayson is fine,” I said. “He really does love me and feels bad for what happened.”

“It’s nice to know he feels bad,” Dave said with a hint of sarcasm. “I hope he realizes that he was more to blame for the mess than you and your dumb friend.” Dave looked out the window.

I sat back in my seat, not sure what to say to him. I could tell that Dave had fallen for me a few months ago, much more than I had for him. We barely had one real date. The only thing I could hope for was that he would someday meet a fantastic girl and fall for her instead.

The limo pulled into the reception hall. I was the first one out the limo and began looking around for Grayson, but Lisa immediately pulled me along to go take bridal party pictures, which of course took forever. Finally, I was able to go find Grayson.

He wasn’t hard to find; I just had to look for a group of teenage girls. Lisa had lots of younger cousins and relatives, so Grayson was stuck in his own photo line. He was extremely gracious to his fans, and he knew that he owed this to Lisa.
Once the crowd had been pulled away by their parents, I went to greet him.

“Hey, beautiful,” he said. “It’s not fair to the bride that you look so good.”

“You don’t look bad yourself,” I said, teasing him.

“Do we get some time together tonight?” Gray asked.

“Of course we do. Remember, once the reception is over I’m all yours.”

“Where are Lisa and Dan going on their honeymoon?”

“Hawaii! I’m so jealous … I have always wanted to go,” I said.

“Well, that’s funny,” said Gray as he pulled something out of his coat pocket. “I just might have two tickets to Hawaii right here.”

“How did you know that’s where they were going?” I asked.

“Dan told me. Of course, these are for different dates, but I didn’t want you to miss out on anything,” he said with a smile. “Plus I would love to see you in a bikini.”

“I knew there was a reason why I love you.” I reached up and gave him a passionate kiss and snuggled my head into his chest.

“We need to go find our seats for the dinner,” Gray said. “Don’t you have to give a speech?”

Crap, I had forgotten that the maid of honor and best man gave speeches. I sucked at public speaking and would have to keep mine short and sweet. Luckily, Lisa did not have a large bridal head table. I was able to sit next to Grayson during the meal. We sat through the subpar steak, and it felt like the dinner dragged on forever. Finally, Dave got up and made his speech. Then it was my turn.

Dave walked over and passed the mic off to me. I got up and walked out into the room.

“Hello, everyone. I’m Abby Smith, Lisa’s best friend. We have been friends since I moved to Wisconsin. She has
been my rock and has gotten me through
some
hard times. We have also had some wild and crazy fun times as well. Dan, you need to take care of Lisa and treat her like the princess she is. Congrats guys!”

I walked back over to Grayson who told me I had done well.

Once dinner was over, it was on to the dancing. I had been to so many weddings single; it felt fantastic to have a constant dance partner for once. Grayson and I had a blast. I ended up catching the bouquet, which of course meant I would be the next to get married.

I said goodbye to Lisa, who would be gone for two weeks. We had never been separated for that long, and I wasn’t sure how I would survive.

Grayson and I got back to my place, both starving. I threw a frozen pizza into the oven, and we both cuddled on the couch. Thor sat by our feet, on the floor.

“You know I love you, Abby,” Gray said.

“I love you too, Gray.”

I felt like my life was perfect and complete. I didn’t need a ring and a large wedding to have my Happily Ever After. I had it right here and now. I loved Grayson, and he loved me – and that made everything worthwhile. I had no idea what my life had in store for me in the future, but for the present, my life was complete. I couldn’t ask for anything else.
