“Before we get started, I just wanted to share some news with y’all.”
I stared down at Angie—the love of my life—and grabbed her hand. She couldn’t contain her smile any easier than I could. She stood up, wrapping her arm around me. I shifted Simon in front of me.
“I would like y’all to meet Simon Caleb Harris.”
“The adoption went through?” Ellie asked, clapping her hands together with excitement.
“I’m officially a dad.”
I could see the joy on everyone’s faces. Paul hopped out from his chair, stealing Simon from me. “Come see Uncle Paul, little man.”
I wrapped my arm around Angie and kissed the side of her head. She peered up at me and said, “You always seem to melt my heart.”
I kissed her lips yet again. I could never get enough.
“I’m not done trying yet.”

To complete a book is an amazing experience. To finish a series is no less than an accomplishment. I couldn’t have gotten to this point without some amazing and inspiring people.
Considering the amount of life interruptions I’ve had since I published
Watching Fireflies
, my first thanks has to go to my surgeon. Thanks for not letting my pancreas kill me. The people who threatened to lock me in a cave in order to give Caleb a book appreciate my working guts.
This whole crazy writing journey introduced me to some awesome people who I now call my dearest friends. I cannot go a sentence more without thanking Alex Rosa and Len Webster. Jane Austin brought us together and we stayed for the pina verdes. #Tripod … it’s a way of life.
Many thanks to Janet for letting me yap out a story line about Mexican drug lords over lunch.
My amazing beta readers have been with me from the beginning. We’re not stopping anytime soon, so keep up.
To Josh … thank you for making me a better writer. I think I owe you a dozen donuts now.
Every reader I’ve met at signings who buy my books and take my picture make me shake my head in disbelief. The emotions that surge through me just from making you smile is the reason why this whole writing thing worth it. Thank you for your incredible support and motivation. I will not stop. My next book will always be my best book. You will get nothing but my absolute best. I thank you from the bottom of my heart.
This series may have come to an end, but it’s the end of the beginning.
“Happiness is a butterfly, which when pursued, is always just beyond your grasp, but which, if you will sit down quietly, may alight upon you.”
Nathaniel Hawthorne
Bestselling author Jaycee Ford grew up chasing street cars around the city of New Orleans. After doing a four year stint at Louisiana State University, she earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in History and fled for the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains. New Orleans beckoned her home again where she put her love of the foothills into a series of romance novels. In between writing, she’s found behind her desk at a top rated law firm … or still chasing street cars.
