Tally laughed. “That might be one way of looking at the matter.” She rocked on her heels and glanced at the ship.
There on the deck, a trio of unruly children raced underfoot, scampering across the lines and weaving in and out of the sailors as the poor men worked to dock the ship.
“Poor Minerva,” Felicity muttered, shaking her head.
“Whatever do you mean?” Tally asked.
Felicity nodded at the ship. “Rounding the Horn with such children on board! Wherever is their nanny? Or their mother, for that matter?” She made a
tsk tsk
sound and shook her head.
Her twin, on the other hand, smiled at the boys’ antics. “Handsome children, don’t you think?”
“Rambunctious devils, more like it,” Felicity remarked. Then the duchess glanced at the children again.
Tawny hair, bright eyes . . .
No! It couldn’t be.
“Tally—” Felicity began.
“Hmm, yes?” her sister asked, waving at their father and Minerva, who had arrived at the deck rail. Minerva, smiling and looking elegant in a silk gown, leaned over and kissed one of the lads on the forehead, while her father leaned over and picked up the smallest one, holding him up to see London spread out around them.
“Is there something everyone neglected to tell me?” Felicity demanded.
“That our father and Minerva are bound to cause more scandal?” Tally mused. “Oh, dear, I do believe young Ellis is about to fall over the railing.” Quickly, Minerva tugged the boy back to safety.
“No, not that!” Felicity bit out. “That we have two—no, make that three—half brothers?”
“Oh, yes, I daresay we do,” Tally agreed.
“And why didn’t anyone tell me?”
Tally grinned and waved happily at her father. “I do believe Papa thought it best to wait and tell you when he was back in Town.”
