MOON DIAMOND ENTERED DRACULA’S PENTHOUSE where Trixie was on the floor growling as she consumed a large piece of cooked Salmon and an even bigger piece was waiting for Zacharia on the table. The Master was prone on the sofa reading a Popular Science magazine on his kindle, having blurred to let the Siamese in and then back to the sofa in less than a second. Moon Diamond looked disgusted at the sight of the Bobtail.
“Zacharia, did you learn anything?”
The Siamese jumped up on the table and started to eat the salmon which was greatly appreciated by both Moon Diamond and Zacharia.
No not really. I Got Palmer to talk to me although he finds it particularly strange talking to a cat.
Dracula cracked his own neck which made a loud crunching sound, not from stress but out of habit. “Has detective Palmer come up with any serious leads?”
I don’t think he has anything substantial. He might need an actual witness to solve this thing. Unfortunately it looks like someone’s walking around right now that will soon have no head. That must be a difficult thing to deal with, knowing that it’s his job to catch the killer and if he doesn’t someone else will die.
“Yes our own mind can sometimes be our worst enemy. Notice anything different about the mother of your kittens?” Dracula smiled behind the tablet.
Zacharia glanced at her briefly but continued to eat; Moon Diamond was thoroughly enjoying his meal.
Why is she so big so soon?
“The cats inside her appear to be growing at an accelerated rate; she’s not going to take eight weeks to have those kittens.” Dracula sat up. “Only a guess but I imagine she’ll have them within the next few days.”
Moon Diamond’s stomach was full and he couldn’t eat anymore. He commenced to groom himself as Trixie went over and lay in front of the big screen. The Siamese jumped off the table as he thought he’d heard something, he approached Trixie and listened.
Meow, meyoo, meow.
Dracula, I can hear the kittens meowing but how is that possible.
The Master nodded. “Yes I can hear them too. I imagine they’re meowing in their heads and you can hear them, which means they’ll be able to communicate with you mind to mind. Now that should be interesting.”
Maddening is what popped into Zacharia’s mind. The Siamese turned and looked up at Dracula.
Can’t you just find her a good home?
Dracula shook his head. “Certainly not. The birth of these kittens will be something I’ve never seen before. Will they possess characteristics of a vampire? I think we should keep them.”
You need to rethink that. Do you really want to have this place full of cats? This could strain our relationship.
“If you being a cat hasn’t strained our relationship then we shouldn’t have a problem getting beyond this. That would make an interesting chapter in one of Piers Anthony’s books on my life: The Cat Period.
Moon Diamond placed his ear to Trixie’s stomach and listened; he felt one moving inside her. Life was getting too damn weird.
Dracula smiled. “Oh isn’t that cute.”
I don’t have to put up with this. I’m going to get my own apartment.
Dracula went back to the magazine. “Really?”
Moon Diamond growled.
No probably not. I’ll just ignore them. What have I done to deserve this?
“God has a sense of humor doesn’t he. Or she.”
