How The Cookie Crumbles (21 page)

“Are you having fun?” Jake asked, leaning in close and talking right into my ear.

“I am,” I laughed. “I’m having the best time!” I turned to look at him and found him staring at me, with a half-puzzled look in his brown eyes. Impulsively, I leaned forward and kissed him softly on the cheek.

Jake grinned. “When you’re all happy and relaxed like this, you’re so….” he shook his head like he couldn’t find the right words but he sat back and squeezed my shoulders.

We danced a little more, but things were winding down. Tolly seemed to be pretty cozy with this bleached blonde who looked like she was about 30, so we took a cab home. The driver was droning on about the great mileage he got from his Prius as we made our way home. I had had a great time, but now all the dancing and liquor was catching up to me. I closed my eyes and leaned back against the seat. Jake was quiet too, holding my hand and looking out the window.

“Turn up here,” Jake instructed the driver, at the gate.

The cab driver turned around, “Isn’t this… oh wow, you’re Jake Cookson! Sorry, I didn’t recognize you, man. Great place you got here.” When we arrived, Jake tipped the driver generously. “Hey, thanks. Here’s my card. If you ever need a taxi, call me, day or night.”

Jake kept holding my hand as we walked up the staircase. I tripped on the top step and he instantly wrapped his arm around me.

“Watch out, little Frankie. I think maybe you had a little too much to drink.” He chuckled.

“I didn’t,” I protested, but I probably had. Suddenly, I felt a little nervous. The fact that we were on an official date seemed to have changed things between us, and raised Jake’s expectations. I had a good time at the bar, but now I just wanted to get into my bed. But I had a strong suspicion that was what Jake wanted too.

He unlocked the front door and disarmed the alarm, then asked me if I wanted anything to eat or drink.

“No, I’m good.”

“I wouldn’t mind a snack,” Jake confessed and I went to the kitchen to make him a sandwich. I sat at the breakfast bar as he ate, but I only had a glass of water.

“Jake, thanks for this whole weekend, and everything,” I told him. “I had a great time tonight.”

He raised an eyebrow. “Night’s not over yet, Frankie.”

“Well, I think it is for me,” I confessed. “I’m pretty tired.”

He slid off his bar stool. “I’ll walk you home.”

“Yeah, I think it’s okay. I can manage a flight of stairs by myself.”

“Frankie baby, you never know. I would never forgive myself if anything happened to this beautiful bod.” He ran his hand down my back and rested it on my ass for emphasis.

“Jake, really… I’m fine.”

He slipped up the stairs beside me. I stopped in the doorway of the guest bedroom, and turned to say goodnight. Jake leaned one arm against the doorframe, so I couldn’t get inside. There was an awkward silence.

“So babe, I haven’t had my goodnight kiss yet.”

“On a first date? I don’t know,” I hedged.

“But it’s not our first date. I mean, we’ve known each other a long time.” His voice was all soft and persuasive and he had this tiny smile. “We’ve kissed before too, and you really liked it.”

“What makes you think that?” I honestly wondered.

He leaned in really close; I could feel the heat of his breath on my cheek as he spoke into my ear. “The way your body responds to me. You fight it, Frankie, but I think you’re really into me… and this.” He bent down and kissed me. His mouth was hard on mine, and demanding. He sucked hard on my tongue, and pulled me in so close I could hardly breathe. I suddenly felt how strong he was, the sense that he was an athlete and physically superior to me. My relaxed mood vanished and was replaced by a nervous feeling in the pit of my stomach.

He kept kissing me and lifted me up like I weighed nothing, and then we were both on my bed.

“Jake… please… I don’t know about this….”

“Don’t forget, Jake is always right,” he said, and then kissed me again.

Jake

When we got back to my place, I figured that this was finally it. I could tell Frankie was into me, and I had waited long enough for this. She was a little drunk and lot relaxed. I kissed her and we ended up on the guestroom bed, making out. I was feeling her up, and her body felt so good. Her tits were soft and natural, and her ass felt great. She seemed to be into it, but when I started working on the buttons of her shirt, when she put a hand up to stop me.

“Jake, stop, okay? I’m not really ready for all this,” she whispered to me.

I kissed her neck, and told her, “That’s why foreplay was invented, gorgeous. To get you ready.” Then I went to slip my hand into her top, and I was halfway in when she grabbed my wrist.

“No, stop please. I mean it.” Frankie looked at me sternly.

“What’s wrong, Frankie?” I asked her, as we lay side-by-side on the bed, keeping one arm wrapped around her and one hand nestled between her warm breasts. “What are you so afraid of? We’re just going to have some fun.”

“Jake, really, I want to take things slow, that’s all. Don’t pressure me.”

“We can go slow, I like to take my time too,” I told her, and I kissed her lips again. She tasted yummy. “Babe, I don’t like to brag but… I think I could make you feel really, really great.”

She started to laugh, “You’re so funny, it’s like you have none of the insecurities normal people have.”

“I just know what I’m good at, hockey and… this.” I stroked her breast through her little black top, running a thumb over her nipple, which immediately got hard. C’mon, she really wanted this as much as I did. As far as I knew, she hadn’t been laid all summer.

She twisted away from me, and sat up on the edge of the bed. “No, Jake. Sex is more important to me than it is to you,” she said over her shoulder as she did up her shirt.

I groaned and reached around her waist, trying to pull her back down. “C’mon Frankie, relax and come back here. We don’t have to go all the way, we can just fool around a little.”

She kept her back to me and shook her head. Then she got up and opened the door. “Good night, Jake. I had a lot of fun tonight, but this is not happening.”

I lay on the bed and sighed. I had a boner and she was so hot. What exactly was her problem?

“Okay Frankie, give me a chance to win back my $20 bet. We’ll make out for ten minutes, and if you’re not turned on by then, you win. Double or nothing.”

“You’re nuts. Good night.” She didn’t move one inch.

“Babe, look! You’ve got me all excited. It’s not good for my health to be all worked up and then nothing.”

“God, Jake, do you think I’m 16 years old? I’m not falling for that crap.”

“One kiss, come here and give me one kiss. Then I’ll go, promise.”

She sighed, but she walked over and leaned down. Lame-o, she was trying to go for the cheek kiss, but I moved quickly and pulled her on top of me and Frenched her, then flipped over so she was under me. The bed was a little soft and pillowed around her. She protested a bit, but I kept kissing her and touching her until I felt her responding to me. I whispered to her, “You’re so hot, Frankie. I can tell you’re into it too.”

She looked up at me and then pulled my head down and whispered into my ear, “You’re right Jake, I do want you. I can feel your cock and it feels all big and hard and nice. I’d like us to do it all night long. Can you do it that long?”

“Oh yeah, I can be whatever you want me to be,” I assured her.

“I just wanna, you know, wash up, so you can go down on me,” she said, her eyes closed. “You like to go down on chicks, right?”

“Yeah, I love it,” I told her. I wanted to taste Frankie.

“Okay, I’ll be right back.”

I let her up, and then she slipped out of the room. I got undressed and then lay on the bed. Finally I was going to get to fuck Frankie. I’d been looking forward to this so long, and I knew she wanted it. She was so weird; she seemed really hot in some ways, but kind of scared in other ways. It was great that she was finally giving in to what we both really wanted.

I smiled and thought about what we’d do. First for sure, I’d like to go down on her; I liked the noises that girls make when they get all tuned on, those noises excited me. I figured that Frankie would be all quiet, the kind of girl that held everything in and then came in a big burst. It would be fun to really make her come big, I felt like she’d fight it, but when she actually let go maybe she’d be a wild woman. And then we could be doing it all weekend too, it’d be fun to fuck her outside, like on the dock or in the woods. Now that we were finally getting to have sex, it was going to be great.

She seemed to be taking a long time to get ready. I heard a car door close right outside, and I jumped up, looked out the window and saw a cab backing out of the driveway.

Shee-it! Was that Frankie leaving?

I pulled my jeans on and called her on her cell.

“Hey Jake, thanks for everything but I have to go.”

“Frankie, what are you, nuts? Why are you leaving?”

“I’m leaving because you have no clue what ‘no’ means. You’re kind of a creep.”

“But your suitcase is still here.”

“I’ve got my purse and I’m going to a motel for the night. I’ll pick it up in the morning and arrange to get back to Kingston.”

“Oh, c’mon! I’m sorry babe, come back and I’ll be good, I promise.”

“Yeah, I think I’ve heard enough of your promises tonight.” And she hung up.

Damn it. I got dressed fast, ran out to the Rover, and took off. It wouldn’t be too hard to figure out where she was staying, since I thought there were only a couple of motels in town. I drove out to the highway and found the closest one. As I pulled into the parking lot, I thought I could see someone in the light of the lobby. I parked out front and dashed in. Frankie was there, filling out some form. I pulled it out of her hand and tore it up.

“C’mon Frankie, I’m taking you home.” The desk clerk gave me an alarmed look, and I smiled at him. “I’m sorry, my girlfriend and I had a fight, and now I came to apologize and take her home.”

“I’m not going anywhere with you,” Frankie replied, and she turned back to the clerk. “Sorry, we’re going to have to start again. And I’m not his girlfriend.”

“Please, I’m sorry and I really mean it. Come back with me.”

She turned and gave me a disgusted look. “You never give up do you? N-O, no.”

Man, what was it going to take here? Well, despite her tight-ass ways, I knew she had a sense of humour.

“Honey-pie, please, one little mistake and you can’t forgive me? I swear, the dwarf and the sheep meant nothing to me.”

I watched her closely. The corner of her mouth twitched and then she started to laugh. The desk clerk was looking at her and then at me like we were both loonies, not quite sure what to do.

“Sorry,” she said to him, “He is a pervert, but for better or for worse, right?” And she put her arm through mine and we walked out to the car. I opened the door for her and she got in, looking up at me, and then she started to laugh again.

Grinning, I started up the car and started backing out.

“Seriously Jake, were you not born with an embarrassment gene?”

“I’ll do whatever it takes to win the girl,” I told her.

“In this case, it means letting me sleep in my own bed, alone.”

“You have my word.”

She snorted, “Like that’s worth anything. Look Jake, you just can’t force this stuff. If and when I’m ready, I’ll let you know. But it’s not now.”

“Okay. But Frankie you’re so cute. You can’t blame a guy for trying….”

“I can blame a guy for not listening when I say no.”

“Yeah, and that’s why sheep are better,” I told her with a grin.

And she started giggling again.

27. Family Ties

I woke up from a deep sleep with that sense of complete disorientation, and no idea where I was. I looked up at the wood-beamed ceiling and stretched in the bed. Jake had been a perfect gentleman when we got home the second time, or at least as close as he could be. Still, I checked under the sheet. I was wearing my nightie and I seemed to be intact. Then I heard a light tapping on the door.

“Hey, sleeping beauty! Time to get up.”

“Wha’ time is it?” I wondered elegantly. Possibly I had drunk too much last night.

Jake peeked in. “It’s ten. Look, my mom just called. She’s dropping by at lunchtime.”

“What?” I sat up in bed and Jake opened the door wide.

“Shee-it, Frankie. Is that what you were wear to bed…?” His voice trailed off as he contemplated the possibilities. I had on a Grecian style slip of coral red nylon, with tiny pleats and a complicated tying system, circa the 1960’s. It still had the original tags on it when I found it at the famous United Church rummage sale, and Chloë and I had theorized that some Kingston bride had purchased it for her hubby and then chickened out.

I yanked up the sheet to cover myself and he sighed.

“Lucky I’ve got one of those, y’know, photographic memories.”

“Or I’m lucky you don’t have x-ray vision. I’ll get up, once you’re gone.”

“I made coffee,” he offered, and then shut the door.

Really? I got out of bed, found my robe and went to the bathroom and cleaned up a little. In the kitchen I found Jake with coffee for me, plus a box of Eggos. Not exactly up to Chuck’s level, but nice. Jake didn’t seem to need to chat at breakfast which was fine with me, I needed a little time to really wake up. I looked up and met Jake’s eyes.
