Heartsville 01 - Bookmarked (Piper Vaughn) (11 page)

“That much is true.” Shep smiled, tender and sweet, then reached up to cup Mark’s jaw. “And I think you’re loveable too.”

Mark turned his head to press a kiss into Shepherd’s palm. “Of course you do. You like my blowjobs.”

“I like your everything.”

“As you should.” Mark grinned cheekily.

Chuckling, Shepherd pulled away. He checked his reflection in the mirror before giving Mark a determined nod. “We should go.”

“Let me grab my coat.”

Bundled in their jackets and gloves, they left Mark’s apartment and strolled toward the downtown strip. It was snowing, fat flakes drifting lazily from the sky, and with the fairy lights and Christmas decorations adorning the trees and shops, the neighborhood looked like something out of a Thomas Kinkade greeting card.

Mark squeezed Shep’s hand as they approached Bella Rosa. Shep cast him a quick grin, returning the squeeze. The sight of him, smiling, cheeks flushed and snow in his hair, melted Mark’s heart and sent a surge of poignant fondness through his chest.

He pulled Shep to a stop and kissed him right there on the sidewalk.

When they broke apart, Mark laughed breathlessly. “It’s going to be a good night. Hell, it’s going to be a good
year
, as long as you’re with me for it.”

“This is where I need to be,” Shep said, repeating his words from the morning after Halloween. “I’m not going anywhere until you do.”

Mark yanked him close and kissed him again. “Then looks like you’re here to stay.”

The End

Piper Vaughn

Piper Vaughn wrote her first love story at eleven and never looked back. Since then, she’s known that writing in some form was exactly what she wanted to do. A reader at the core, Piper loves nothing more than getting lost in a great book—fantasy, young adult, romance, she loves them all (and has a two-thousand-book library to prove it!). She grew up in Chicago, in an ethnically diverse neighborhood, and loves to put faces and characters of every ethnicity in her stories, so her fictional worlds are as colorful as the real one. Above all, she believes that everyone needs a little true love in their life… even if it’s only in a book.
