“It won’t work between us. Now, I have to prepare for my afternoon hearing.”

“Are you saying the fuckin’ wasn’t good? ’Cause you sure acted like it was great.”

Crimson colored Cara’s cheeks. “No, I’m not saying that. It
was
good… very good, in fact. I’m saying that this can’t go anywhere. You get it; you’re the fuck-em-and-leave-em guy, remember? What’s the big deal?”

Hawk narrowed his eyes and his jaw twitched. “Yeah, no big deal, babe. You were a great fuck, now on to the next slut.”

She winced and her eyes glistened. Grabbing his jacket, he walked out of her office without a backward glance. Hawk knew he’d gone too far with that slut comment, but she pissed him off. They had shared something that afternoon, or at least, he thought they had. After all this time, she ended up being another bitch who wanted to fuck a biker for the excitement. He figured she was different, and he thought they had forged something between them other than lust.
Fuck, I was way off-base on this one
. The worst part was that since he’d tasted her pussy and felt his cock inside her, he couldn’t walk away. She was in his blood, and to him, she was his woman.

He could never let her go.

Cara watched Hawk
leave, tears wetting her cheeks. She felt cheap and played. She couldn’t believe he’d said that to her. His words were like daggers in her heart, but she didn’t expect anything more from him. Although, it was for the best, and her common sense told her this. She had hoped he cared about her a little, but in the end, it was like she’d feared it would be—just another fuck for the badass biker. Cara’s worst fears were realized, and she cursed herself for giving in to her desire. It would have been better never to have tasted him, to have felt his touch on her skin. She didn’t want to be another slut he fucked, but after what he’d said, she never wanted to see him again. Hawk was exactly what she thought he was—an asshole—and she was well rid of him.

Chapter Sixteen

“Y
ou fucked him?”
Sherrie shouted into the phone.

“Yeah,” Cara groaned.

“How was it?”

“Awesome.”

Sherrie squealed, “I
knew
your sexy biker wouldn’t disappoint you. I’m so jealous.”

“He was amazing. He was rough and sexy, but also gentle. I’ve never had an experience like it before. You were right about taking the moment, and I’m glad I did. Now, I can move on and get back on track.”

“What are you talking about? You’re going to see him again, right?”

“No, it’s time for me to move on. It was great, but now I have to concentrate on my work and Luke.”

“Cara, what is the matter with you? You have a great guy who’s totally into you and gives you mind-blowing sex, and you want to
end
it? You want to fart around with Luke, who gets hard every time he sees your dad and thinks about his money? You’re way off on this one.”

“Luke isn’t that bad.” Cara giggled. “Anyway, Hawk and I have been lusting after each other since we met at Rusty’s, and now I’m just another babe he’s screwed. I know you want to make more out of this, but there isn’t anything there. It was lust, and now we move on.”

“I don’t know if we’re talking about the same guy, but he doesn’t see you as another notch on his belt. He has feelings for you. Can’t you see that?”

“That isn’t what
he
said,” Cara whispered.

“What do you mean?”

“He told me I was just one more slut he’d fucked,” Cara said, her voice breaking.

“And you
believed
him? What did you tell him
before
he said that? Did you say the crap you just told me about this being the only time, and it’s just lust and all that?”

“Maybe I said
something
like that.”

That’s
why he said that shit! He was pissed, and you hurt his feelings. He probably didn’t mean it.”

“He shouldn’t have said it, and he
did
mean it. I need to move on.”

“Cara, don’t close yourself to deep feelings. Explore this thing with Hawk.”

“There’s nothing to explore.”

“I know you too well, Cara. I’m your best friend. I just knew that if you ever got together with Sexy Biker, you’d sabotage any hope of a relationship with him. You have to get back on track with life. You gotta let a man into your life in a deep and trusting way.”

“I have. I’m going to the charity ball with Luke next Saturday. Hawk is out of my system, and I’m moving on.”

“Of course, you’ll go with Luke. He’s not a threat because you don’t have any deep feelings for him.”

“I’m glad you can read my mind and know all my feelings.”

“I just wish you would throw caution to the wind for once in your life. Just let yourself
feel
instead of always
analyzing
how to live your life.”

“Hawk was a one-time thing. It’s over. Gotta go. Later, Sherrie.”

Cara hung up the phone. Patting her forehead, she tried to wipe Hawk’s image from her mind, which wasn’t an easy task because the sex had been so mind-blowing, and remembering the things Hawk had done to awaken her body made her stomach lurch and her cheeks burn. Nothing in her lovemaking with Trevor even compared to what she had shared with Hawk. She almost lost her mind when his warm tongue licked her pussy; no man had ever done that to her. Trevor had been a selfish lover. He’d wanted her to suck him, but he’d never go down on her.

She had to stop thinking of Hawk and how deliciously wicked their sexual encounter had been. He exceeded her expectations, she’d give him that, but it was time to get back on track with her life. A thriving practice took a lot of time and energy, so she wouldn’t have time for him—not that he wanted to be with her, as he’d made very clear. Anyway, Hawk didn’t have a place in her life, and she didn’t plan on being his favorite slut to fuck whenever he wanted; no, his touches, his kisses, his cock inside of her had to be pushed back to the corners of her mind. Life was about beginnings and endings, and this thing with Hawk had reached its end. Luke would be her focus, and her life would return to normal. It just had to.

“I gotta call
that lawyer of yours and see if she wants to join the payroll. She did a damn good job,” Banger said.

“We don’t need any bitches on the payroll. Les is just fine. He does what he’s told, and he doesn’t argue all the time. He’s the perfect lawyer for the club,” Hawk answered as he reached for his beer.

“What changed your mind? A few weeks ago, you were all for her taking Les’ place. Did she tell you to go to Hell?” Banger laughed.

“It’s better to leave women out of the business aspect of the club. Women are for fuckin’, and that’s about it.”

“Whatever, we’ll take it up at church next week. You goin’ on the run?”

“When?”

“A few brothers are leavin’ in a couple of days. I’m thinkin’ of goin’, but I don’t want to leave Kylie alone. She’s had some lovesick fuck hangin’ ’round the house too much. I think I’ll have to set him straight.”

“Kylie’s a good girl. She knows what’s up.”

“I don’t want no boys ’round her. She’s too young.”

A few weeks before, Kylie had turned eighteen and was in her senior year at George Washington High School.

“She’s not that young anymore. Next spring, she’ll be outta high school,” Hawk said.

As Banger cleared his throat, he glared at Hawk. “She’s too young to think about getting serious with any boy. This isn’t open for discussion.”

Smiling, Hawk threw his hands up in defeat, knowing that when it came to Kylie, no one could tell Banger anything. Sometimes, Hawk felt sorry for the constraints Banger put around Kylie’s life, and when she’d come over to his place to use his computers, she did a lot of complaining about her dad. Hawk could understand some of her issues, but he told her all the time how lucky she was to have a dad who cared about her. She’d had a great mother, too; Grace doted on Kylie, and when she died, Banger did a damn good job playing Mom and Dad, even though it had been tough. Just recently, Kylie shared her desire to leave, and she swore Hawk to secrecy. Although, she didn’t have to worry about him telling Banger her plans; he knew the president would go ballistic because Banger never wanted her to leave his safe haven.

“I would like for Kylie to learn how to cook better. I loved the spaghetti sauce that lawyer made. Shit, she knows how to cook. You think you could arrange to have her teach Kylie how to make tomato sauce?”

“My case is over, and I don’t think I’ll be seeing her again. No reason to, you know?”

Pushing his stool away from the bar, Banger stood up, patted Hawk on the back, and smiled. “Like I said—when you talk to her, see if she can help Kylie with some cooking.”

Grunting, Hawk swiveled back around, laying his elbows on the bar. Staring at the beer bottle in his hand, images of Cara bent over her desk, pussy and ass ready, flitted in his mind. He needed to see her again. Fucking her was better than he had imagined, and he was sure he had just melted the tip of the iceberg. Pretending their fucking didn’t mean anything was a crock of shit, and she knew it. As he stroked her pussy, he felt her body shake from desire, and when they held each other’s gazes, an intimate connection passed between them, something he’d never experienced before with a woman. There was no way he was going to stay away from her, but he’d give her some time. Before long, she’d be yearning for his lips on her tits and his cock in her pussy.

He could wait. She was worth it.

When Cara got
to the office, Asher met her at the door and whispered, “Very mean-looking badass in your office.”

Cara’s heart leapt; Hawk had come to see her. As her insides quivered, a huge smile broke out over her face.

Noticing her expression, Asher jumped to rein her in. “No, it’s not Hawk. It’s another biker, and he doesn’t look friendly.”

Curious, Cara walked into her office and saw a lanky man sitting on one of her leather chairs. Dressed in blue jeans, black boots, and a leather cut with a 1% patch, his uneven brown hair fell around his shoulders in layers. As he blew a smoke ring in her direction, his dull brown eyes raked over her body.

“This is a non-smoking building,” she said.

“Good to know,” he said as he continued to blow smoke in her direction.

Ignoring him, Cara asked, “May I help you?”

“Not really. I’ve come here to help you.”

Staring at him, she raised her eyebrows.

“I hear that lovely nose of yours keeps getting into places where it doesn’t belong.”

“Who are you? I have a ton of work and a client coming in soon, so what do you want?”

“I’m Viper, president of the Deadly Demons Nomads.” He extended his hand to Cara. Not taking it, she went behind her desk and sat in her chair.

“And why are you here? Do you have a problem?”

“I do. I have a pesky amateur who is playing cop and making all sorts of unnecessary noise. My brothers tell me to slice her throat, but I’m not an animal, you know,
sweetheart
?” His words shimmied up and down her spine. Telling him to get the fuck out of her office didn’t seem like the best approach at the moment, though.
