About the Author
Like most little girls, I always wanted a horse. I actually had a pony when I was very young. His name was Toby, and he was too wild to keep. I sobbed when we sold him—until my dad promised me a Dr. Pepper.
As a small-town country girl, I have done enough farm-related chores to be glad I don’t have to do them every day. However, my parents’ small farm is one of my favorite places to be.
I am lucky enough to have an incredible group of friends who help me shop, give me advice, make me laugh and remind me of what is important. All of them are embodied in the women of Fiddler.
For as long as I can remember, I have loved to tell stories. Writing them down for others to read is the best job I’ve ever had.
That said, writing this book was scary. In addition to the normal sophomore “what if I blow it” jitters, this book pushed me out of my comfort zone. The subject matters were dark at times, and I wanted to make sure I was respectful of those topics while still writing a story about survival and hope. To tell that sort of story, with two very quiet characters, I had to learn new skills and write in a new way.
Every book teaches me a lesson about writing. This one taught me to get out of the way of the story.
(By the way, chocolate gravy is a real thing—and it is awesome.)
