It was already after eleven so I grabbed a flashlight from a kitchen drawer, took my keys and hurried out of the apartment. There was no way I could go to sleep without that puppy under my pillow. I got to the car and threw the passenger door open. Things like this didn’t happen to me. Winning never happened to people like me. I was still in shock.
My numbers were up! Fuck yeah!

I almost broke open the damned glove door to check inside. The indoor car light was on but wasn’t bright enough, so I shone the flashlight to see the receipts and papers stored inside. There was the vehicle manual and a mini tire gauge that I had hidden away, but between the receipts and other papers, I couldn’t find the ticket.
Where’s my fucking ticket?!?

I pulled everything from the glove compartment and put it on the seat. The flashlight shone on the items, as I slowly rummaged through the pile – one by one – ever so slowly to make sure. Still...I saw no ticket.

“Think...think...” I mumbled, pulling back from the car and shining the flashlight in the back seat and in the door storage, and every nook and cranny of the car. The lottery ticket was nowhere to be found.

Suddenly, I had a sinking feeling in the pit of my stomach. There was only one explanation as to why the ticket was gone.
