‘Thanks,
you’re my favourite boyfriend ever.’

‘Glad to
hear it, see you later.’ He kissed me and I stood in the shower and watched him
dry himself, his muscles flexing and scrumptious. I washed my hair when he
disappeared I stepped out of the shower, dried off and took my pill and brushed
my teeth. I found his hairdryer in the bathroom cabinet and took it out to his
bedroom. He’d already left and put one of his fresh white shirts out for me to
wear along with my white lace French knickers and my black legwarmers and bra.

I padded
downstairs feeling refreshed. There was a hot vanilla latte waiting for me and
a plate with fresh strawberries and blueberries. I opened the oven to find two
crispy croissants waiting and sat at the dining table with my feet tucked up on
the chair as I balanced the plate on my knees and enjoyed eating. There was no
rain today, no sun either, but it looked crisp and dry and not as cold as
yesterday. I washed up and headed down to the cinema to pick up our discarded
clothes, glasses, bottles and pizza boxes making a few trips up and down until
it was tidy. I did the remaining load of dark washing and headed back to the
lounge with the cream throw and my iPhone and curled up in the corner of the
sofa and put on the TV. As I checked my phone I saw I’d one text message from
mum.

Hi Mia,
hope you’re ok? I’d like to talk to you about your plans for half term and
Christmas, so if you can give me a call today that would be lovely. Gerry sends
his love, as do I. Mum xx

I dialled
her number, better to do it now or I’d be busy with Gabe later and forget.

‘Hello?’

‘Hi mum it’s
me, Mia.’

‘Hello
sweetheart, you’re ringing early.’

‘I’m spending
the weekend with Gabe and he’s just gone out food shopping. How are you?’

‘Good, very
good, though it’s odd getting used to you not being at home.’

‘Have you
heard from Georgie? I’ve texted her a few times and not heard back.’

‘Not this
week no, with all the crazy shifts these nurses do, I think she loses track of
time.’

‘Well tell
her I’d like to talk to her, to catch up, when you next speak to her. So what’s
up? You wanted to talk holidays?’

‘Well I was
hoping you’d come and stay Saturday to Tuesday in half term. I know you’ll need
to do some study so I don’t want to put any extra pressure on you.’

‘Mum I’d really
like that.’

‘Obviously
bring Lexi too but also Gabe, I want to meet him properly.’

‘Mum are
you sure?’

‘Yes, but
we’ll have to be sneaky and pretend he’s staying in one of the spare rooms, I
don’t think Gerry will entertain the idea of his little girl having sex under
his roof.’

Mum
.’

‘Please
darling, I remember what it was like to be a teenager in love, I was at it like
a rabbit and just because you get older the desire doesn’t always wane,’ she
laughed.

‘I’ll put
the phone down if you carry on mum. Ok I’ll ask him. So what about Christmas?’

‘I hope you,
Lexi and Georgie won’t be offended but Gerry and I’d like to go away, we’ve
seen the most amazing cruise around the Caribbean.’

‘Mum of
course I’m not offended. It’s not like I can keep coming home every Christmas
for ever is it?’

‘Well I’m
worried about what you’ll do. You and Lexi have never been interested in
learning to cook and I hate the idea of the two of you sitting alone without a
Christmas dinner.’

‘Mum don’t
worry we’ll be fine. Gabe’s an amazing cook so I’ll make sure he teaches me.’

‘It means I
won’t see you for your birthday either Mia.’ I heard her sigh heavily.

‘Mum it’s
ok, these things happen when you leave home. Maybe you could come up and visit
one weekend before you go?’

‘I’d love
that.’

We chatted
for about half an hour before she hung up to try and get hold of my sister. I
sent Lexi a text.

I’m
missing you. Are you ok? What are you doing? Or do I want to know?? Mum wants
you and Gabe to come home with me for a few days for half term, but it looks
like it’s just you and me here for Xmas x

I went and
made myself a normal instant coffee, as his machine looked far too complicated
and sat on the sofa enjoying some mindless viewing until I heard the gravel
crunching, ran to the front door and opened it. He was standing there with his
keys in his hand and looked startled.

‘I missed
you, welcome home.’ I flung my arms around his neck and kissed him.

‘You’re so
sweet and looking very sexy in that outfit,’ he purred as his eyes lingered on
my chest. Just seeing him again had made my nipples peak and lift the material
of his shirt. He followed me in and we headed to the kitchen where he unpacked
his rucksack and put a fresh chicken, some potatoes and carrots, sweet potato
and fine French beans on the counter. He handed me my bottle of mars milk and donut
and walked over to the freezer and put something in and turned and grinned at
me.

‘So, how
you fancy watching how a roast dinner’s cooked?’

‘I’d love
to, in fact I need to.’ I hopped up on the countertop next to the hob. ‘Can I
talk to you while you cook?’

‘Of course
you can.’ He pulled off his sweatshirt and I made an appreciative noise as his
grey t-shirt rode up and I got a flash of his torso. ‘Are you getting horny
again baby?’ he grinned.

‘Maybe,’ I broke
eye contact and blushed.

‘Well I
need to get this chicken and the potatoes in before we do anything Mia, so
start talking.’

‘It’s about
your plans for half term, do you have any?’

‘Other than
wanting to take you to Edinburgh for a few days no. Why?’

‘I just
spoke to mum and she wants me to go down the first Saturday and stay until Tuesday.’

Four
days?’

‘Yes.’

‘God that’s
going to be hard if we can’t even make it past two days apart,’ he frowned.

‘She wants you
and Lexi to come too, if that’s ok?’

‘Are you
serious? I thought you were against meeting the parents, it was one of your rules.’
He looked so excited, it was adorable.

‘Which I
told you I was forgetting about except for you sleeping with anyone but me, besides
we’ve both already met them anyway. Is it too much? Too soon to ask?’

‘It would
be too much to ask me not to see you for four days, so yes I’m more than happy
to come. Do I need to prepare for a grilling?’

‘I don’t
know, but you need to set up in the spare room, Gerry’s not keen on us sharing.’

‘I have to
sleep without you?’ his face fell again.

‘We can
sneak you into my room in the night.’

‘Thank god.
Well count me in. I’d like to book some flights and a hotel for us to go up to
Edinburgh, so we could go Thursday and come back Sunday. I’ll need your passport
details.’

‘I could
ring you with them. What details would you need?’ I felt my stomach churning. I
was sure he was going to need my date of birth.

‘Passport
number, expiry date, full name, date of issue, place of issue and your birthday.’
He rattled the list off like someone who was seriously well travelled. I sighed,
there was no way I could keep putting this off. He looked at me with a curious
expression. ‘Ok what’s going on?’

‘I don’t
know an easy way to say this Gabe.’

‘You’re not
going to tell me you were born a man are you? As I may just had to stab myself
with this potato peeler,’ he said, brandishing it over his heart as he smiled.

‘Gabe it’s
not funny, I really need to tell you something.’ I clenched my fists and looked
down at my knees, my stomach flipping and not in the good “
I’m in love with
this guy
” way. He put down the knife and wedged himself between my legs,
tilting my chin to force me to look him in the eye.

‘Mia, you
can tell me anything. What’s wrong?’

‘It’s about
my birthday and I’m sorry, I’m
really
sorry.’

‘Baby what?’

‘It’s
Christmas eve.’ I bit my lip and reached up to touch the side of his face as he
flinched and took a quick sharp breath and remained silent for a while, as if
mulling it over.

‘Have you
been worrying about telling me?’ he finally asked quietly.

‘Yes,’ I
whispered.

O baby
,
why didn’t you tell me earlier instead of worrying? It makes it better for me.’

‘How can it
make it better for you? I can’t bear to think what you must go through each
year thinking about her.’ I lowered my eyes as they’d started to fill up.

‘Mia look
at me. Look at me.’ He had his firm voice on, so I lifted my eyes up and
studied his face as he wiped my tears with his thumbs and kissed me. ‘Yes I’ll
admit I get a little sad each year, but now I’ve something to look forward to
instead, something to celebrate.’

‘I don’t
want to make you celebrate, I can always spend the day with Lexi.’

‘You think
I want to be apart from you on your birthday? I feel like it’s a bit of
balance. I lose her on Christmas eve, but now I’ve got you. I get to celebrate
you being born the same day and that’ll make it so much easier for me to bear.’

‘You’re so amazing.’
I kissed him and put my head on his shoulder and he stroked my hair gently.

‘I’m so sorry
you’ve been worrying about telling me.’

‘When’s
your birthday Gabe?’

‘16th September,
the first night I saw you.’

‘Sorry you
did say, I didn’t realise that was the 16
th
. I’m sorry, I didn’t get
you a present,’ I exclaimed as I sat upright to look at him.

‘Well you
hadn’t met me, you didn’t know.’

‘I sort of
met you, I just don’t remember.’

‘Seeing you
across that room was the second best present I’ve ever had,’ he murmured as he planted
a soft kiss on my lips.

‘What was
your best present?’

‘When you
told me that you loved me. My heart aches every time you say it.’

‘I do you
know.’

‘What?’

‘Love you,’
I whispered as I ran my finger down his face, still amazed how much he seemed
to be affected by me.

‘See. I bet
I’m grinning from ear to ear aren’t I?’

‘Yes you are,
you big softie.’

‘So can you
please dig out your passport and we can book a long weekend away and enjoy it
as much as I have this one?’

‘Most definitely.’

‘Excellent.’

‘Gabe?’

‘Yes?’

‘Are we
having bread sauce with the chicken? I love bread sauce.’

‘You and
your food. I like seeing you with an appetite,’ he said as he kissed me before
continuing with the lunch preparation.

‘It’s all
these orgasms I keep having. They make me extra hungry.’

‘I better
stop giving them to you then,’ he teased as he crunched on a raw carrot.

Noooo
.
More orgasms and more food please. So tell me what you’re doing with this
chicken.’

We spent
nearly over two hours in the kitchen as I watched him cook and he made me peel
and chop the sweet potatoes. He helped me make the bread sauce and gravy and we
tucked into a big lunch with crispy roasts and fresh vegetables.

‘O god Gabe
that was delicious,’ I sighed as I sat back and put my hands over my full
stomach.

‘Hmmmm I
needed that. You’re wearing me out. So why all this sudden interest in cooking?’

‘You make
it look so easy and taste so good. Much as I love my take aways it’d be nice to
be able to cook now and again. Plus mum has just broken it to me that she’s
going on a Caribbean cruise this Christmas, so Lexi and I are going to be staying
here.’

‘What about
Lexi’s parents?’
