Falling for the Wingman (The Kelly Brothers, Book 3) (21 page)

“What are you doing here?” he asked, still not believing she was here after yesterday’s conversation.

“I heard you needed a date for a wedding, so I drove all night to get here in time.”

“But the emergency at the garage?”

She bit her bottom lip and glanced down. “Well, it was a little emergency. I was having some reservations about leaving Jermaine in charge for so long and was going to chicken out and…”

“It was only going to be for the weekend, Alex.”

“Actually, I was hoping for a bit longer.” She moved aside so he could see into her car.

It was packed full.

“I hear Utah’s beautiful this time of year,” she continued, tripping over some of her words, “and I think it’s time I stretch my wings a bit and see what’s outside Jackson Grove, maybe see where things go with us.” She paused, then added, “That is, if you don’t mind me moving in with you for a while.”

“Moving in with me?” He looked at the car and back at her. Even after J.T. and Kourtney had warned him Alex would never leave home, he had held onto the hope that maybe they could find a way to be together. He’d even toyed with the idea of resigning his commission, but she’d refused to even let him consider it when he mentioned it to her. And now she was here, packed up and ready to venture to the other side of the country to be with him.

His chest tightened. She’d once told him that love made the impossible possible. Maybe this was her way of showing it.

“No,” he said, his voice cracking.

Panic flashed across her face. “No?”

“No, you can’t move in with me for a while.” He pulled her into his arms. “If you move in with me, I want it to be forever, Alex. You’re the last person I want to see before I fall asleep and the first person I want to see when I wake up. You’re home to me, no matter where we end up. I want you to be my wife, and I don’t want to settle for anything less.”

She wound her arms around his neck and smiled. “You can be very demanding, flyboy.”

“Only because I never want to lose the best wingman I’ve ever had.” He pressed his lips against hers, cherishing the love and warmth that radiated from her kisses. “So, those are my terms, Hot Wheels. Take it or leave it.”

A mischievous glow lit up her whiskey brown eyes as she rolled them off to the side. “Hmm, I might need some more convincing. Those are some pretty stringent terms.”

“Now who’s the demanding one?” But he kissed her again, this time letting her know in no uncertain terms what three weeks without her had done to his system. His cock grew harder with each flick of her tongue. He reached under her skirt to feel the silkiness of her tights, roving up to discover she’d forgotten her underwear once again. A moan rose from his chest. Dear God, did she have any idea what she did to him?

She responded with a hunger that rivaled his, pressing her body against his and deepening the kiss. Then, just when he was considering moving the Roadrunner to a secluded location where they could finish this, she reached down to give his ass a playful pinch.

He jerked back, his desire doused as she dissolved into laughter. “What was that for?”

“I’ve been taking lessons from Miss Martha. Besides, I don’t want to go about embarrassing you in front of your family. This is your brother’s wedding, after all.”

“But after the reception?”

“I’m all yours.” She ran her finger along the lapels of his jacket. “And to answer your offer, I’m okay with forever as long as I have you. Like you said—with you, I’m home.”

“You’ll always have me. I lost my heart to you long before I realized you were the one who’d stolen it.” He placed a chaste kiss on her forehead, not wanting to risk any teasing from his brothers for the hard-on she’d give him if he kissed her the way he wanted to. “Would you like to meet my family?”

“I’d like that very much.”

“Good, because I know they’ll love you as much as I do.”

He kept his arm around her waist as he turned around and led her up the stairs where his mother had joined his brothers. Unlike the time he’d introduced Kourtney to his mom, he had no jitters, no hesitations, no sick nervous feeling in his stomach. His chest swelled with pride as he gazed down at the woman who’d just agreed to spend forever with him. This was love. This was real. And this was the impossible made possible.

His lucky charm pressed against his thigh, but he didn’t need to rub it. He already was the luckiest man in the world. “Mom, guys, I’d like you to meet my fiancée, Alex.”

Don’t miss the next book in the Kelly Brothers series…

The Heart’s Game

Robotics engineer Jenny Nguyen has given up on finding Mr. Right. So when her brother and his husband approach her to act as surrogate for their child, she sees it as her only chance to have a baby and accepts. One week after she initiates the process, however, she meets a man who gets her heart pumping for all the right reasons and gives into the temptation to spend one night in his arms. When the test turns positive, she’s believes she can’t handle both the pregnancy and dating, but she underestimates how persistent a Daniel Kelly can be.

When surgeon and gamer-geek Dan meets a pretty woman dressed as a Sailor Scout at a party, a roll of his lucky 20-sided die tells him he should take a gamble on her. One night of passion leaves him longing for more, but Jenny’s refusal to return his calls afterward leaves him wondering if the attraction was one-sided. An accidental discovery of her pregnancy has him convinced the baby is his, and he’ll stop at nothing to win her heart.

Author Bio

Growing up in small town Alabama, Crista relied on storytelling as a natural way for her to pass the time and keep her two younger sisters entertained.

She currently lives in the Audi-filled suburbs of Seattle with her husband and two children, maintaining her alter ego of mild-mannered physician by day while she continues to pursue writing on nights and weekends.

Just for laughs, here are some of the jobs she’s had in the past to pay the bills: barista, bartender, sommelier, stagehand, actress, morgue attendant, and autopsy assistant.

And she’s also a recovering LARPer. (She blames it on her crazy college days)
