here are some cases you leave feeling pretty good about yourself. This wasn’t one of them. I don’t suppose I liked Emma much or approved of what she’d done but the sadness I felt was for her. I think she’d probably been a pretty decent woman till Knut twisted her all up inside.
Emma was going to a prison with walls and bars.
But Knut was going to a prison, too. He’d never forgive himself. And that was as it should be.
I was thinking all this as I walked to Liz’s house for supper. I was hoping to get her drunk enough to forget my so-called advanced age.
