He thrust a terracotta pot into her hands and stood back, waiting anxiously for her reaction. In the flowerpot was a single azalea, perfectly white, perfectly beautiful. Stuck in the pot was a wooden marker on which was written the azalea’s name. Phryne read it and laughed in delight. She had received her sign.

The azalea was called ‘Phryne’.

RAISINS AND ALMONDS

Kerry Greenwood

In investigating the poisoning of a young man in a bookshop at the Eastern Market, and the wrongful arrest of one Miss Sylvia Lee, super-sleuth Phryne Fisher is plunged into a world or Jewish politics, alchemy, poison, and chicken soup.

‘Kerry Greenwood’s ninth Phryne Fisher confirms her as the most original and enduring of current Australian women crime writers.’
Sunday Age

Raisins and Almonds
is an excellent novel and recommended to anyone who wants to enter the world of Phryne Fisher. Whilst a series novel, if s far from necessary to have read any of the previous titles—but after a few hours with this novel, chances are that those who fall under its spell will be seeking out other books in the series.’ Stuart Coupe
