Dangerous Abduction (O'Connor Brothers Book 2) (19 page)

“He got lucky today, but he won’t get that lucky again,” Keith said with a calm, even tone, but there was something in the way the words came out that even made James shudder. Keith was even-tempered and he couldn’t remember ever seeing the middle brother of the family lose his cool since they were kids. “Trunk thinks the guy that ran into the woods was a distraction and I’m thinking he is right. He said Mrs. Ray’s dogs were going nuts and it was a good thing she had them secured to the post because she wouldn’t have been able to hold them back. He’s so pissed with himself.”

“I fucking hate when these bastards get away with this shit then they hide away and we can’t find them.” James knew from experience when a criminal didn’t want to be found they would do everything to keep themselves out of sight. Marc took a huge risk taking Danny and he was lucky he was able to drop him off without being seen.

“He can’t hide forever and he wants something, so he’s going to keep going until he gets what he wants and that’s when we trap the prick,” Keith said in a hushed tone. Although his brother had never been in trouble with the law, James had a feeling that the security company sometimes played with the lines of the law to keep his clients safe. James nodded and took one more deep breath before he reentered the interview room.

“It’s been a long day, so I think we should get this boy home.” James forced a smile but it was mostly for Danny’s sake. He lifted Danny into his arms and Marina linked her hand into the crook of his arm. Danny was safe, but James wasn’t going to relax until all this shit was over. He was going to do everything to make sure that man never got near Danny and Marina again. On the way out of the station he noticed Keith sitting in his truck with his phone to his ear. He nodded, and James knew it was a silent confirmation that he would be putting one of his guys on protection duty for Marina and Danny. If anyone could keep them safe when he wasn’t around it was Keith’s guys.

Chapter 15

I
t was the longest day of her life, and Marina was glad to see the end of it. Mason and Danny were exhausted, but neither of them seemed distraught over the day’s events. Mason was glad to see Danny, and they quietly played in the living room while James had a pizza delivered for supper. The boys ate and were both bathed and in bed. Marina noticed James had been extremely quiet since they arrived home. He was blaming himself and she didn’t know how to make him understand none of it was his fault.

The rain started just after the kids went to bed, and she stood in the kitchen staring out through the window. The fog had rolled in as well, and she could no longer see the ocean because it was so thick. She sensed him before he even touched her, and when he wrapped his arms around her she leaned against his body. His hug enveloped her like a blanket keeping her safe and warm. James rested his chin on her head as they watched the fog slowly swallow up the garden and the rain ease into a gentle mist.

“You must be exhausted.” He pressed his lips to her temple.

“Not really. Relieved Danny is safe and in his bed and that he doesn’t seem bothered by what happened today.” Marina sighed when he squeezed her against him.

“I think I finally convinced Mrs. Ray none of this was her fault, and Keith is still trying to calm Trunk down,” he said.

“I’m glad, but are you convinced it wasn’t your fault either?” Marina asked.

She heard him swallow. “I’m trying and Mrs. Ray made me agree that it wasn’t my fault either,” he said. “She said, now Jimmy it’s not your fault, so I’ll believe it’s not my fault, if you believe it’s not yours.” James tried to mimic Mary’s voice.

Marina giggled because he sounded so weird but also the name Mary called him always struck her funny. “You know women are always right...Jimmy.”

“Funny girl.” James tickled her ribs, and she wiggled to escape his grasp. She managed to get away and ran out of the kitchen, but stopped short when Stephanie burst through the front door. Marina froze for a moment and then wrapped her arms around her sister.

“Are we playing tag?” Stephanie teased.

“No. She’s running from her payback for calling me Jimmy.” James stood in the entrance of the kitchen with his arms folded across his chest and that sexy grin lit up his face.

“Aww Jimmy, what’s wrong with that?” John laughed.

“Nothing wrong with it, Johnny.” Marina teased her brother-in-law.

“Cora calls him that too.” Stephanie giggled. The names just didn’t suit the two tall muscular men. Johnny and Jimmy reminded her of little boys and those two men were definitely not boys.

“Coffee, anyone?” James was obviously trying to change the subject and Marina nudged Stephanie with her elbow.

“Sounds great but I’ll have tea... Jimmy.” Marina said as Stephanie stifled a giggle.

“You’re asking for it, little girl.” James pointed his finger at her as he disappeared into the kitchen with John behind him. Marina linked her arm into Stephanie’s and made their way to the living room. When Stephanie nodded towards the kitchen, Marina was expecting ‘I knew I was right’ from her sister.

“What?” Marina feigned innocence.

“You’re just staying here so James can keep you safe, huh.” Stephanie raised an eyebrow and crossed her arms over her chest.

“Don’t start,” Marina whispered but she knew her sister wasn’t going to let it go.

“You couldn’t find a better guy than James. Well, except for John but he’s taken.” Stephanie smiled.

“He’s amazing, but part of me is still scared,” Marina admitted.

“James isn’t going to let Marc near Danny again,” Stephanie said.

“I know but that’s not the only thing that scares me, Steph,” Marina said. “I’m afraid of my feelings for him. I’m falling for him so fast, and it terrifies me.”

“He’s not Marc, Rina.” Stephanie hugged her but before Marina could respond, James and John entered the room.

It was so natural the way James sat next to her and rested his arms over the back of the couch behind her while John and Stephanie told them about their trip. Marina apologized for them having to miss the last couple of days, but John held up his hand and stopped her.

“I was ready to come home.” John smiled. “She was wearing me out.”

Marina giggled when Stephanie elbowed John in the ribs. “You’re such a liar.” Stephanie narrowed her eyes.

“I do not lie. Do you want me to show them the claw marks on my back? Little John was getting ready to crawl up inside me.” John grinned as Stephanie gasped with embarrassment.

“Little John? Bro, you never name it anything with the word little.” James laughed.

“It’s one of those things like naming a fat guy skinny or a short guy stretch. What’s it called?” John winked at Stephanie, and she rolled her eyes.

“You mean an oxymoron?” Marina chuckled.

“Yeah. Ask Steph there is nothing little...” Stephanie elbowed John in the ribs and her cheeks flushed.

“So Danny and Mason are okay.” James cleared his throat and Marina could tell he was trying not to laugh at her sister’s pink cheeks.

“That bastard’s lucky he brought Danny back.” John’s teasing grin disappeared.

“I hope he doesn’t try anything else.” Marina shivered and instantly James arm wrapped around her shoulder.

“We’ll get him, Marina,” John said.

“I hope it’s soon.” James kissed the side of her head and she relaxed immediately.

Her sister and John stayed for a short while but it was obvious they were exhausted from their trip. They’d planned to stay in New York for a couple of days but as soon as they found out about Danny, they’d booked the first flight out. After they’d landed in St. John’s, they’d rented a car and drove right to James’ house as soon as they hit Hopedale.

“I think we’re going to head home and get a good night’s sleep. We’ll drop back over tomorrow after we bring the rental car back,” John said as they were getting ready to leave.

Before she left Stephanie pulled Marina aside. “I’m happy for you, Rina.” Stephanie hugged her. “Don’t overthink things.”

James closed the door after they left and turned to her. “What was that all about?” James asked.

“What?”

“Why did Steph say she was happy for you and not to overthink things?” She’d hoped he hadn’t heard any of that.

“She’s happy Danny’s home, and don’t overthink things about Marc.” She wasn’t sure how he’d feel about her talking to her sister about her feelings before she even told him. Hell, she didn’t even know if she was ready to tell herself.

“I see.” James pushed himself off the door and stalked towards her with a sly grin and his sexy mouth.

“What are you doing?” Maybe he heard the whole conversation.

“I still owe you for calling me Jimmy.” James moved closer, wiggling his fingers in front of him. She backed into the living room with her hands held in front of her.

“I’m sorry, James. Don’t look at me that way and put those fingers away.” She moved around the coffee table to keep him at a distance.

“I don’t think so.” He moved around the table and backed up farther until her back hit the wall. She’d backed herself into a corner and there was no way to get around him.

“James, please don’t tickle me. I’m warning you.” Before she could escape, he was in front of her and his hands were braced on either side of her body.

“Warning me, huh?” James raised an eyebrow.

“James, no tickling, please.” Marina wrapped her arms around her torso but it probably wouldn’t do much good.

“Hmmm, maybe I’ll do this instead.” James brushed his lips against hers and his hands moved to her hips. “Or maybe this.” His lips grazed her cheek, and he pulled her hips to his. “Or this.” He feathered kisses down the side of her face to her neck and she let her head fall to the side to give him better access. Her body was trembling again, but this time with anticipation of what he was going to do next.

“Oh. God.” Marina gasped when James nipped the sensitive spot behind her ear and she could feel his erection against her stomach. Heat ignited in her core and she grabbed the bottom of his shirt and yanked it up to get it off him.

“Marina, slow down. We’ve got all night,” James whispered in her ear when her hands smoothed against his tight abs and the muscles bunched under her touch.

“Yes, we do.” Marina pushed him until his back was against the wall. “But I want you naked now.” What was wrong with her? She’d never been this demanding, but God she loved it. She pulled his shirt over his head and pressed her lips against his chest. She inhaled and his scent filled her senses as she swirled her tongue around one flat nipple. His groan vibrated through his body and she sucked it into her mouth.

He reached for her but she pushed his hands against the wall and feathered kisses down his chest as she popped the button on his jeans. She wanted to be in control at the moment. It was empowering to hear his response to her. All thoughts of the terrible hours while Danny was missing disappeared, and all that remained was her and James.

She slid her tongue down the center of his stomach and he hissed when she circled his navel. She watched his reaction when she knelt and unzipped his jeans. Her hand grazed the silky skin of his erection, and she realized he wasn’t wearing anything under his jeans. He’d been commando all day. His head hit the wall with a thump when her tongue flicked against the swollen head peeking out of his open jeans. She slid his jeans down and he sprang free, hard and ready. He gasped a string of curses when she sucked the head into her mouth.

“Jesus, woman, you’re killing me here.” James groaned and quivered when she wrapped her hand around his cock and circled it with her tongue again. He was too big to take all of him into her mouth, but she was going to take as much as she could. His breathing had become more of a pant as she slid her mouth over the length of him.

“Fuck, that feels so damn good.” James panted. She started to move her hand and mouth together faster, but she was suddenly ripped away from it and lifted into his arms. How he made it up the stairs with his jeans hanging below his hips, she didn’t know but he managed to get her upstairs and into his bedroom. He laid her on the bed and frantically started pulling her clothes off.

“Didn’t someone say we had all night?” She giggled as he tossed her jeans to the side and grabbed the waist of her panties.

“Yes, someone did, but you’ve got way too many clothes on, woman.” Her bra and panties disappeared with a rip, and he hovered over her his eyes ablaze with arousal. The intensity made goose bumps rise on her skin as she realized he was the one in control now and she wanted nothing more.

His warm skin pressed against hers and sent electric tingles through her body. His hand moved down her body caressing every inch while his lips devoured hers. She slid her hands around him and dragged her nails lightly down his back causing the muscles to flex under her hands. His lips brushed down the side of her jaw and between her breasts. He pulled her against his throbbing cock and his leg slipped between hers pushing them apart. His lips covered her hard nipple as his hand moved down to the heat between her legs. The man was going to drive her crazy.

The sucking sensation and his thumb teasing her sensitive nub was incredible, but then he inserted his long finger inside, and she arched off the bed. Her head was spinning with so many sensations at once. He tugged on her nipple lightly with his teeth and then nipped slowly down her trembling body. A second digit entered her and he sucked her clit into his hot mouth in one motion.

“Oh. My. God. Don’t stop!” She thrust her hips up into his hand, and he swirled his tongue against her clit faster. The man knew how to use his tongue. She couldn’t keep her eyes open when her body started to shudder with the most intense climax she’d ever felt. She almost screamed but pressed her lips together because the last thing they needed was to wake the boys. Then he continued his wonderful ministrations and another wave shot through her before she could come down from the first one. This time she couldn’t hold back.

“James,” she screamed and then clamped her teeth into her lower lip.

When she opened her eyes he was hovering over her and his lips were inches from hers still wet with her climax and she could smell herself. It was so arousing and surprised her how much it turned her on, then he pressed his lips to hers she pushed him to his back and straddled his hips. His cock throbbed against her wet heat and she flexed her hips grinding against him.
